Happy February Everyone!
As usual, a lot of
things happen every month, so I have a lot to go through! Let's try as
much point form as possible, in pseudo-chronological order.
A new Magic set came out! It was very exciting to play, and it
brings a lot to Commander decks. A lot of my commander decks are now
more exciting. I'm always excited to play with new cards, and this set
delivers a lot of good tools.
We went to Winterlicious! We went with Mai, Jon, Ricky,
Alan, and Duy, and overall it was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was
very exciting, and it wasn't my first choice but we started the
Restaurant-Selection process late so my first choice was unavailable. In
any case, it was still a solid, good meal. Pictures will be up on
Facebook soon. (I should probably write down that we went to Marcel's
Bistro, so later when I check this blog again in a few months/years I
will remember where we went... and that my first choice was Bloke &
Fourth, so I should remember that for Summerlicious when it rolls
around)...
Mai and Jon came back! This means a lot of good meals,
good company, but also, A LOT OF CATS! Our house is now full of 4 cats,
instead of 1, 2, or 3. The first day they came back was pretty exciting,
when the cats were getting used to each other and fighting each other
and everything. One of the nice cats was so riled up that he scratched
Jon and Jon started to bleed. The cats meowed more on that day that
they've ever done before.
Anyway, now we are living with 4 cats. That's a lot of
kitty litter. But it's also a lot of purring and petting and that's
pretty cool.
And now Mai and Jon are gone! On this
past Monday, Mai and Jon boarded a plane to go to France until May. So
it was a pretty sweet "vacation" when they were back, but now they're
gone again, and we're taking care of all the cats.
So last time I blogged about Fez, and now just about
everyone has played it - David played it, didn't get far; Alan played
it, got a bit further; and Ricky played it, he's doing pretty well so
far but he hasn't come over since to play it more. And I'm still playing
Fez! Just today, this morning, I got one of my last 3 anti-cubes. See,
there's this one "puzzle" in Fez where there's a clock with 4 faces, and
each face has a different hand that moves at a different speed. On one
face, the arm rotates once every, like, 2 minutes, so every 2 minutes,
for about 10 seconds, an anti-cube would magically appear. On another
face, it would like, rotate once every hour, so every hour, for about 1
minute, an anti-cube would appear, and you can get it.
Anyway, so on the last face, I kept checking every now
and then. I checked on February 9th, at 6:00pm, and the arm was pointing
around 4:00. I checked again yesterday and made some calculations, so I
knew I had to wake up this morning and check before I went to work,
and, like "clockwork", at 10:00am, the hand pointed at midnight and the
anti-cube was there. So, I finally got that one, and now I have just two
more main puzzles to solve, and then I'd be pretty complete.
Ooh ooh, there's a Dance Central achievement which I
can get today! There's this achievement where you play a certain
character with a certain song on that character's birthday - so Harmonix
has a Calendar (which you can save and print) that features each of the
characters and their birthday. Today it's Valentine's Day, so it's
Angel's birthday, so I can finally get that achievement. I've been
playing more Dance Central in January, but unfortunately, there were no
birthdays in January.
A few months ago, we played Smash-Up at my house, and
recently I found it at Untouchables and it was cheaper than I expected
so I bought it! So now we can play it whenever - and in a while when the
expansions come out, I'll be ready to grab them right away.
As a group, we saw the movie, Indie Game: The Movie. I
thought it was oookay - it seemed overdramatic - then again, I guess if
you're going to make a movie about a pretty "mundane" subject, then you
have to add some drama here and there. I don't think I would watch it
again.
Last Sunday, before Mai and Jon left, we wanted to
watch a movie so we went on Rogers-on-Demand and we rented Hotel
Transylvania. It wasn't bad, had some good parts but I thought it had
too many silly parts - like, parts that were made to entertain children,
or like, cliche parts that happen in a lot of 3d animated movies. It's
like... actually, I was about to write something but it's probably too
boring for this blog. So let's move on...
The next Die Hard movie comes out today! It's called
"It's a Good Day to Die Hard" and I'm looking forward to it! To be
honest, I don't know much about it, and I just checked Rotten Tomatoes
and apparently it's the worst Die Hard yet, scoring 13% (Die Hard 4 got
81%). Umm... so we'll see. It's still a long way until Iron Man 3 this
summer, so this was the go-to choice to tide us over until then...
In December I wrote about how they discontinued burgers
at McDonalds, which means they discontinued sauces for Jr. Chicken
Sandwiches. Anyway, I still haven't eaten almost-any chicken sandwiches
at McDonalds since then, but that new Bacon Chicken Snackwrap is
actually pretty good! It's like they have actual bacon in them. Maybe
it's like, rehydrated bacon crumble bits, but it does feel like real
bacon. It's a nice treat. I regularly eat a Chicken Snack Wrap along
with a McDouble, because the McDouble is still cheaper but equally as
good, maybe even more filling.
Also, I started drinking Caramel iced coffee instead of
regular, just to mix it up a little bit. Maybe next blog update I'd be
drinking Vanilla!
Google has a Valentine's Day thing on their page today! That is all.
I got a new computer! My last computer was from 2002,
or so I think, since that's what the Operating System says - Windows XP
Service Pack 2, 2002. Anyway, it's now 2013 and it was time to get a new
computer, so bam, new computer. Also, new Operating System - Windows 8 -
no other computer in our house has that. I hear the Graphics card in my
machine isn't the best, but in any case it's still an upgrade and I
don't do heavy gaming on my computer nowadays anyway, but it would be
nice to be able to run all my indie games and Steam games at proper
frame rates and graphic settings.
So... Windows 8... it's a bit odd. My computer feels
like a smartphone - I mean, there's still the regular desktop which
looks like Windows 7, but the Start Menu is made to look like a
Smartphone. It's kinda neat in that way. It took a while to get used to,
I mean, to find out how to make it function like a regular computer.
For a while I didn't know how to close programs without going into Task
Manager, but now I know.
So Windows 8 isn't too hard to use, but now they have a
Windows8-specific version of Skype, and THAT, I'm still not 100% sure
on how to use. I don't call people anymore, I let people call me, a
window pops up asking me if I want to accept the call, I know how to
work that window. Still not sure how to add people to calls though...
I think Maro said that his favorite game on his
smartphone was a game called Jetpack Joyride - and now I have that game
for Windows 8, and I love it! It's based off of that helicopter game,
you know, the one where you hold the mouse/screen down to go up, and let
go to go down... but it's a lot more engaging and interactive than
that, and there's missions and powerups and all that... it's all pretty
addicting to me. I've been playing it on and off for a total of 13 hours
now, and I don't see me stopping anytime soon.
Like an iPhone with free apps, I've also been
downloading other free "apps" for Windows 8, just random games here and
there. Not much to say, just... random fun apps here and there.
Family Day is coming up this Monday! I wonder if Alex will come back, or if EDH will still happen on Monday.
Lunar
New Year happened! Nothing too exciting happened. Alex was supposed to
come back on Friday, you know, to spend time with Mai and Jon before
they left the country, but Friday there was a record-breaking snow storm
so we didn't go to work, Alex didn't go to school, and Alex didn't come
home from Waterloo. I hear six people managed to climb into
Untouchables for FNM. Anyway, so it was a record-breaking snow storm, I
didn't think it was too exciting. We did however go to Swiss Chalet for
dinner (Red Lobsters was closed) and on the way back our car got stuck!
Several people came to help us get unstuck. It was quite an adventure.
If I wasn't helping push the car, I would've totally filmed the event.
Community is back on TV! It was supposed to originally
come back on October 19th, but delays and whatnot and now it's February
and they have had their first episode. I didn't think it was a
particularly good episode or anything, but of course, Community has my
heart so I will continue to watch it.
While Mai was back, we watched A LOT of The Mentalist!
It's her favorite new show, although it's not really new, but we've been
watching it a lot while she was back. I'm still taping it so I could
still continue to watch it.
I've (and Mai) started watching a new show called
Motive, which is another crime show but instead of figuring out who did
it or how or whatever, it focuses on the "why", but then again, in
figuring out the "who" in CSIs, the "why" comes out too. First episode
was a bit okay, second episode was a bit neater, in the sense that in
the intro, it followed a guy campaigning for mayor, and the show gave
him the title "The Killer", and then there was two school girls talking,
and then one of the girls was labeled "The Victim" - so that was neat,
already adding suspense to the whole thing.
Mai and I also started watching a new show called Do No
Harm - there's this surgeon who lives with another identity - so every
day from 8:25am to 8:25pm he's a well-mannered surgeon, and then from
8:25pm-8:25am he's a wild crazy, evil man. So the show starts and the
surgeon has drugs he takes to keep his other identity out of the
picture, but now the drugs don't work anymore and he has to live with
his crazy side. So far there's only two episodes, and we keep thinking
"how can this show go on if it's the same thing all the time" but so far
it's managed to keep our interest so I'm interested in seeing more.
Touch is back! There was a 2hr season premiere last Friday, but I haven't had the time to watch it yet.
Anyway,
that's pretty much the end of the entry... or is it? I just checked,
and I started this blog in February of 2004, so this is the 9th year of
this blog! I just checked, and in February of 2004, I wrote 39 blog
entries, and in March, I wrote another 39 entries! Sure, a lot of the
entries are 3 paragraphs or less, but still, that's a lot of entries.
Life was a little more exciting back then, with school and events and
problems, but still, that's a lot of entries. Well, it's a lot of
entries compared to now, where I'm posting once per month. I just went
back and read the first 80 blog entries, interesting stuff, interesting
stuff. Well, not really - a lot of it is mundane, but it's interesting
to read that I wrote about that kind of stuff. Maybe if I had twitter
back then, this would be what it was like.
LOL, I wrote an entry on February 3rd, and then on
February 7th I start with "soo... I haven't updated in a while".
hahaha... nowadays, "I haven't updated in a while" means 2 months of no
blogging, not 3 days, hahaha.
Aww, reading past entries makes me hungry for chicken
wings, specifically, teriyaki and cajun chicken wings from Molly Bloom;
Also, I wanna go back to Mel's Diner... and as juvenile as it sounds, I
miss sleep overs and big parties.
Also, I wrote a lot about dreams back then. Wanna hear
about a dream i had last night? I had a dream last night, where I was
Karthus (from League of Legends) and I kept trying to kill just 1 guy
but he kited me so well and kept regenerating and I couldn't get him for
20 minutes. He was always at low health, and every now and then I would
just Requiem and then try to follow him with Defile, and he would stand
in it but always be regenerating health fast enough to not die... What
does that mean?
wtf, I don't remember liking Yoshi in Smash Bros 64.
And apparently I like Miso Soup. Oh, and in February 2004 is when I
restarted playing Magic, with Darksteel. So it's been 9 years of that
too, eh?
