Happy New Year!

First off, Happy New Year everyone!

Now, back to business. Since I posted last, a bunch of things have happened. Christmas happened, and the cousins (and aunts/uncles) from Montreal came, Mai and Jon came back, and we all had a blast. I posted a video on facebook (on 12/31, ~11:30pm) detailing all the fun we had during the Christmas break, so you can check that out. In short, we got a bunch of new board games including Taboo2, Anomia, and Charades, so we had tons of fun playing that. We got Dance Central 3, and we've been Gangnamstyling ever since. Also, we played a lot of Hidden in Plain Sight, although it's not shown in the video.

Boxing Day celebrations were had, gifts were bought, and fun was had by everyone. Now it's the new year, all the Montrealians are back in Montreal, all the holidays are over and I'm back at work, writing this blog entry, hehe.

Last time I posted, I was level 10 in Halo, and now I've reached my target rank, Level 24, so yay! I'm awesome now, so now what? That said, I haven't played Halo in the past week, too busy with the cousins and other games here and there. We've made more space in the TV room for dancing - now we have Dance Central 1, 2, and 3, including DLC, so we have about 125 songs to move our body to. Unfortunately, Mai's back in Toronto, and except for the odd occasion, I'm the only one using Dance Central... still, I plan to get a lot of mileage out of it. Gangnam Style is so much fun to dance, but there are a lot of challenging songs overall so those will be some of the "mountains" I have to conquer... like that Indian song... grrrr

Anyway, just a few minutes ago I was playing Dance Central 3 with Vinh and trying new game modes... there's this VS mode where you can free-style dance and create your own moves and stuff, it's really funny and pretty awesome. Just thought I'd add that in.

Sometime in November, we ordered dinner from Pizza Hut but it came over-an-hour late, so they said they would give me a free pizza next time... and they did! And more! So last weekend we ordered Pizza Hut's special, which was $29.99 for 2 pizzas, 10 wings, 10 breadsticks, dessert, and a $10 voucher... but when I started ordering, the meal was $34.99 instead of $29.99, but whatever, maybe it's an exchange-rate kinda thing. So I ordered, and I put in the note about the free pizza; so they phoned me, but long story short, they did give me the free pizza, but in addition, the bill came out to ~$15+tip! So instead of $34.99+tax+tip for 2 pizzas +voucher and stuff, I paid $15+tip for 3 pizzas and stuff (no voucher though). That's awesome! So I guess their debt is paid to me now, hehe :) I'm a happy customer.

As usual around Christmas and Boxing Day/Week, all the stores and online retailers have had sales, and this year's no different. Leading up to Christmas, Dell has had sales and I wanted a new computer, but Duy and my uncle advised me to wait until boxing day, when everything would be cheaper. The computer I'm currently using is maybe 10 years old, running Windows XP, so I think it's about time I upgrade. I don't play too many games anymore, but it would be nice if the games I did play (like League of Legends) ran as smoothly as possible. Anyway, it's past boxing day now but I still haven't gotten a new computer, so we'll see.

Steam, as usual, has had sales, but the only thing I bought was Ys Origins and Ys: Oath of Felgana, because they were recommended to me and because they were really on sale. I'm currently a few hours into Ys Origins, and I'm enjoying it. It's like a fast-paced action-RPG platformer, kinda like... Secret of Mana, where you run around and fight enemies, but it's 1-player only and there's jumping involved and it's faster paced. So I guess it's not really like Secret of Mana.

Xbox Live also had some sales, and I'm glad I found them when I did - it's one of those "14 days of deals", where each day there's a new sale but then after 24 hours the sale is over and something else goes on sale. Well, the day when I found out, two arcade games which I've been wanting to get were on sale: Mark of the Ninja, and Fez, one of the highest rated games of the year. I immediately jumped at the chance and got both the games. Mark of the Ninja is a stealthy ninja action game - it's really well made, but I wasn't keen on paying the whole $15-20 for it, so when it dropped to $8-10, I got it, and I'm enjoying it. But I don't think you're here to hear me talk about Mark of the Ninja.

Fez on the other hand, is really a great game. Well, everyone's been saying that, so I do have some criticism but whatever. It's a puzzle-platformer, that uses a neat 3d-rotation mechanic that lets you navigate the world in a neat, fun way. There are also some complex puzzles in Fez; yesterday I called Vinh to help me with a 3d puzzle involving blocks, and he solved it for me, so that's cool. He's now more interested in the game, although he wouldn't touch the controller to try it himself.

Like I said, there are some criticisms... yesterday, just after I wrote that e-mail to Alan and David about Indie Game: The Movie, I went to play Fez and I was hit with the "corrupted save" glitch so I had to start all over. I think I patched the game now so I shouldn't be hitting that glitch again. But ya know what's weird? Even though I started the game again, I immediately found new places to explore from the beginning, so even though I restarted game, I found new content which I didn't find at first. Sure, later on I will have to replay the parts I've done before, but now, finding something new is quite refreshing. Anyway, my other criticism is that some parts are like the "Mario Sunshine" thing I hate, but for the most part, it's not too bad.

So yeah, Fez is quite a good experience. It's weird, I usually play more action-oriented games, but Fez is quite a departure from that, but it's refreshing.

Anyway, I tried to write this entire blog entry while listening to Psy - Gangnam Style on repeat, but I couldn't do it. I changed the song a few paragraphs ago to Laina's Be Together Everyday (not a real song, but a parody that Laina did on youtube). But you don't care about that. So I guess this a good place to end the entry. Bye!
