Doing the Limbo at the Copa Cabana

So today I want to talk about this weekend, in (in?) which I played Limbo and went out to eat at the Copa Cabana. So first, Limbo...

///Limbo

If Limbo sounds familiar to you, it should; It's been out since Summer 2011, or maybe even Summer 2010, it's been a long time. I had the demo on Xbox360, and at the time I didn't care to buy the whole game; I heard it was short, and it didn't look like my type of game, even though many people said it was the best game of the summer.

Fast forward to a few months ago; I bought an indie bundle, which included a bunch of famous indie games, such as Amnesia, Swords and Sworcery, and this game, Limbo. Fast forward to this past weekend, and I finally started playing Limbo and then finishing it.

Alex (my cousin) kept asking me about Limbo, so one time while League of Legends was having server problems, I started it up... and I was instantly having fun. The game started out like in the demo, so the first few minutes of gameplay was familiar.

If you haven't played Limbo, I recommend it. I would call it a puzzle platformer with horror elements. It's not a puzzle game like Braid, although in each part of the game you're trying to get somewhere and it's not quite clear how you're going to get there; so you go around pushing blocks and hitting switches and timing your jumps to get there.

The one thing that differentiates this game is the atmosphere, or the graphics and sound; there's little to no music, and the game has no color, everything is black and white and grey.

So in the game, you're a boy (with no name, I guess) and I hear the story is that you're looking for your long lost sibling. You start in a foresty area and you make your way through the forest and through sewers and factories to eventually reach your goal. Every now and then you meet spiders or other people that will try to stop you from reaching your goal.

So back to the "horror" elements - maybe it's not horror, but sometimes the mood turns creepy as huge spiders approach you. But it's also pretty gruesome, this game. There's no red blood, as it's all black and white, but there are traps everywhere so your character can die a lot, and usually in horrific ways. I guess that makes the game a little bit scary.

In any case, I had a fun time with this game. Like I said, it is short, maybe 3 hours long. The game is broken down into about 40 chapters, each chapter being a different puzzle or part of the game. I got stuck a few times... there was one time where I was stuck for 15 minutes, and then I called over Duy and Alex to help me and then a few minutes later Duy got the solution, so that's cool. Other times I would get stuck for a few minutes but eventually find the solution.

Yesterday (Sunday), Duy and I went out to dinner with Ambrose, Ricky, Raymond and Raymond's girlfriend, at the Copa Cabana, in Toronto. With a name like Copa Cabana, I would've thought it would be a little more famous, but alas, there's only one here and in Niagara Falls. Anyway, Copa Cabana was a Brazillian Grill. Duy described it to me as an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring meat.

Anyway, there are two food parts of the restaurant; there's the buffet area, otherwise known as the Harvest Table, which had your assortment of vegetables and starches; red pasta, white pasta, caesar salad, avocado salad, mashed potato, couscous, etcetera.

Then there was the meat part, which, I guess if you had to compare it to something else, you could compare it to Dim Sum. People are walking around with skewers of meat, and they come to you tableside and ask if you want some meat. Sometimes they would just pull it off the skewer and put it on your plate for you (if it's like, a single thing, like a chicken drumstick); most of the time though, it would be a big piece of meat, and you would hold part of it with your tongs, while the guy slices off a piece of meat for you.

There were all sorts of meats, such as filet mignon, spicy chicken, lamb, ribs, pineapple, steak, steak, steak, and steak. Here's a picture of the choices:

Overall, it was a pretty satisfying, meaty dinner. I took a few more pictures but most of my plates don't look good on camera - they look similar to most buffet plate pictures, with different pieces of meat on the plate and remnants of unappetizing sauces on the side.

I would recommend going at least once, but you have to have a pretty big stomach and you should come hungry - it's about $40 (a bit more on Friday-Saturday) but you would certainly get enough meat to make it worth your while. I made one and a half visits to the "vegetable" bar (on my second trip, I only got more avocado) while others like Raymond tried to keep more room for meat and only got a tiny bit of vegetables and starches.

So yeah, good experience. Also, there's live music there, and I heard on Friday and Saturday there might be gogo-dancers or something. Anyway, that's my blog entry for today. Gotta go get ready to go out.

Next Saturday there's a League of Legends tournament at Untouchables; I'm not participating, but I might be attending just to watch; I watched it last time, I got re-acquainted with my friend Tim and now we play League together, so that's a plus. The weekend after is the new Magic pre-release, so that should be fun.
