May the Fourth Be With You

Hey, it's May now! Weather seems to be much nicer, less chance of snow, everything seems good. First things first, I want to direct your attention to my other blog, which I started updating again! The point of this blog is to pretty much summarize and gloss over all the events that happened in the last month. My other blog is more of a semi-daily update thing; I've updated it 8+ times since April 10th, although I didn't post at all during the time Brian was here; more on that later. Anyway, if you're looking for more, check out my other blog. On a related note, I tried to update my twitter too, so I started posting a few times a day but then I didn't post anymore. Hmmm

Before I get to Brian, let's just mention a few things... It's May now, so Vinh is done school for the summer, and Alex is back at Waterloo for his school-term. I'm still playing Kingdoms of Amalur, although didn't touch it while Brian was here. Played it today, and now I'm Level 36 (out of 40) and I've done 130 quests - I'm nearing the end of the game now. In League of Legends, Ambrose joined us and Mike Jones (Duy's friend) joined us too, so us 3 (alex, Duy, and myself) made smurf accounts so we can play with them. TV-wise, I'm still watching Missing, Fringe, and Community, and I'm loving all of them. Missing is on as we speak, I'm taping it so I'll watch it tomorrow. I'm so excited :P

Magic-wise, a new set just came out so we went to the pre-release, Alex and I; well, we went to the Midnight pre-release, which is usually only a couple hours long but this time they decided to make it a full-fledged event, so it ran from midnight until about 7:00am. The event was $30 which included a promo card and 6 boosters to make your deck. Alex was really lucky and he opened over $60 worth of cards, and he also did really well and was one of the top players, winning 20 boosters or about $70-80 worth of product. The cards I opened up weren't so pricey, but I did well enough and won 10 boosters, or $35-40 worth. Overall, great tournament. Went to McDonalds afterwards, then went home and slept from 7:30 till a bit after lunchtime.

The Avengers comes out this Friday, but I will probably watch it on the weekend; gonna go to another Magic event on Friday; although, it seems nobody is up for seeing it opening day. Do you guys like the whole "lining up, crowded opening night" process? I think it's kinda cool, being with a bunch of other fanboys or whatever we call them.. then again, it's been around in Europe already, so the opening night thing doesn't feel as authentic, heh.

So anyway, Brian came last month! Brian, Duy's online friend since forever, flew in from Missouri to Buffalo, and then took a bus to Dixie Mall, on Monday the 23rd and stayed for about a week. We picked him up, went to Subways, and then back home; unpacked, met the family, and straight onto Tales of Graces F. Tuesday was mostly just gaming and eating out, and then Wednesday we went to the Ontario Science Centre, and then to all-you-can-eat Wings at Wacky Wings. Mike Jones from Hamilton joined us for the Science Centre and all-you-can-eat Wings, although neither of them ordered past the first plate of wings. I usually only eat a few wings too, but this time I managed to stuff a bit more into me :)

I noticed Brian doesn't eat as much as I thought he would - also, most noticeably, his diet is similar to Vinh's! On the first day, at Subway, he ordered a sub with chicken, cheese, no vegetables, and no sauce. For lunch on Tuesday, Vinh had sauce covered chicken strips and fries, and Brian had chicken strips and fries, but with no sauce. Tuesday night went to Montana's, which is a Cara restaurant so they don't exist in the States either (which is weird, with a name like Montana's). Unfortunately it wasn't Wednesday so there was no All-You-Can-Eat Ribs. On Wednesday at the Science Centre we finally got him some sauce - well, it was his first time trying Poutine, and he liked it. Anyway, this isn't a rant - more like an observation.

Thursday was Duy's birthday, so the family went out to Wasabi's all-you-can-eat buffet for lunch, as we also had a coupon. Once again, Brian ate similar to Vinh, hehe. Afterwards, I picked up an Ice-cream cake as I had a groupon for Baskin Robbin's; it was delicious, but I wouldn't usually buy an ice-cream cake for that cost (The groupon was $20 for the cake, usually priced at $40). I would rather have normal $3-5 ice cream or actual real cake for that price. Continuing on, Thursday night we ate in this time - kinda; we ordered Pizza. Two pizzas; one standard all meat with bbq sauce, the other more like my regular pizza; creamy garlic with steak and chicken and various fruits and veggies, and the standard garlic and pepper seasoning and italiano blend. No olives this time!

Friday lunch was leftover pizza, and Friday night we wanted to go to Applebee's (which exists in the States, but Brian has never eaten at) but it was too full (didn't think that would happen) so we ate at Popeye's instead, which Brian has also never eaten at. Saturday lunch time we finally had a home-cooked meal with rice and meat and veggies, before Brian and the rest of my family went off to Niagara Falls for some sight-seeing and shopping before dropping Brian off at the airport.

So, that was Brian's visit. Science Centre was cool; a lot of it I remembered from previous trips there; it's a good place to visit, but it hasn't really changed much over the past two decades. Maybe a few new exhibits here and there, but mostly, same old same old. Anyway, I thought everything was bigger in the States, but apparently, Wasabi's AYCE restaurant was among the biggest he's ever seen, and there was a gym (L.A. Fitness) near Wasabi that he also exclaimed was much huger than any other gym he's seen before.

During most of Brian's stay, we played Tales of Graces F. After all, before Brian's visit he would be regularly watching Youtube videos of the game so he would be caught up to us when he came here. It shouldn't come to you as a surprise that Duy really loves Tales games, so that his Internet friends would also love Tales games. Alex would come home surprised that we would have played Tales for 8+ hours that day, and so on, every day other than the Science Centre day.

Last update, we just started playing and I said the battle system was quirky and whatever... now we're over 50 hours in and we're loving the system, the story is fine, I love some of the characters, so I guess we're taking a liking to it. I'm not sure if I should type much more about the story, I don't want to spoil or not spoil it for anyone. Alex is gone back to Waterloo now, so we'll probably just play it exclusively on weekends, when we have a third, like Alan or Ambrose.

Anyway, that's all for now. If you can't get enough of me, follow me on my other blog, and of course, on the Fields of Justice!
