March - Birthday Month

Hey guys, it's March! My birthday just passed, and I am now an old fogey. Haven't really celebrated all that much, except we went out for dinner later in the week, at a buffet in York Mills called the Dragon Pearl. My aunt chose the place as she's heard good things about it, and it was pretty good! They had Peking Duck, so like, the duck, pancake, green onions, cucumbers, the sauce... and I thought that was pretty awesome! Peking Duck is usually pretty expensive for what you get, so having it at an all-you-can-eat place is pretty sweet.

I got an early birthday present with mari0 coming out on March 3rd, which if you haven't heard, is a mash-up between Super Mario Bros 1 and Portal. Someone named Maurice started working on it about a year ago, and now it's an actual thing that exists and is free (of course it's free, otherwise some lawsuits would happen). You can get the game at www.stabyourself.net ... they also have a game called Not Tetris 2, which I think is worth a few minutes of playing, just for funniness.

I got a late birthday present with Community returning, a few days ago on Thursday, March 15th. I'm glad it's back. The episode was okay, but I'm glad it's back anyway. TV-wise, my favorite shows atm are Community, Criminal Minds, and Fringe... I just wished Fringe would show up more often... some weeks it's on, some weeks it's off... oh well.

About a month ago we got a bread maker! I'm just telling you this because I'm eating some bread as I type this, and it's delicious! That said, we don't make a lot of bread... this is our third loaf so far, and I helped! Usually my mom just makes bread with oat grains or flax seeds or other healthy stuff, this time I helped and I added raisins and almond flakes, and it's soft and delicious!

In gaming news, I've still been playing a lot of League of Legends. I started playing in... late January? And by the end of this month I would reach level 30, which is the max level in the game. I'm enjoying the game a lot, and I would recommend it - I guess that's kinda bias though, of course.

In other gaming news, I got a new game - no, not Mass Effect 3 - I got Kingdoms of Amalur. I enjoyed the demo, Duy enjoyed the demo, and Alex enjoyed watching me play the demo, although since the demo was timed, I decided to turn all evil and fight villagers and steal stuff, which Alex really likes. In the real game, I'm being infinitely more nice, so Alex will have to go through on his own playthrough to wreck things.

At first, I wasn't sure if I was going to get it... so I was at the store, and it was $60, and I thought I could wait 3-4 months for it to drop to $40, or 6-8 months for it to drop to $30... but then, I should probably get it while Alex is here to get the most out of it. So I said, "yeah, I should probably get it." And then I step to my right a bit, and I see a pre-owned copy for $45, so that pushed me over the top to get it :D

The game is awesome, I love it. In case you haven't heard anything about it, it's an Adventure/RPG type game, featuring "good" combat, so combat that near rivals Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry -style of combat. Penny Arcade wrote about the game and I can't find the article, but it's pretty spot-on, and it compares Amalur to Skyrim, which has among the worst combat in games. Long story short, I'm really enjoying the game. I'm about 15 hours in and I'm level 12, and for the most part I'm like a mage-rogue now, specializing in magic and using daggers and stuff.

A few people say Amalur is like an MMORPG, minus the Online and minus the Multiplayer, and... in some ways I agree. It does feel a little bit like Guild Wars with better combat - you have main quests, and you can talk to villagers to do side quests. There aren't a lot of "fetch me 12 fox pelts" quests so that's a plus, hehe. In any case, I'm having fun with it. I would recommend it, but I don't know if this is the type of game where Ricky comes over and plays it once every 2-3 weeks and gets anywhere with it... it looks to be a 100+ hour game. Anyway... I guess that's it for now!
