November's Blog Update: Modern Rock Band Retro 3
It's time for November's blog update!
So yesterday morning (Wednesday the 16th), my parents left for Boston for a business trip, and they'll be gone until Sunday morning… so we have the whole house to ourselves for 4 days. Anyway, most of this blog entry will be about yesterday.
The day started off with a bad dream. It started as a weird dream, where I was walking with the guys from Criminal Minds, and then eventually I was walking down some stairs without my glasses, and when I got to the bottom I was walking with my grandma, and everyone was leaving me behind. A little later, I was at an event, and a guy bumped into me as I was about to take a picture… and then there was something awesome happening, and I was about to take an awesome picture, and then the same guy comes around and knocks my camera out of my hands and onto the floor. So I turn around and punch him, and then throw his face onto the concrete floor.
And then I woke up. I heard sounds outside of my parents getting ready to leave, and then the taxi doorbell. Eventually I decided I wouldn't go back to bed, so I just got up, a little groggy and tired. But, the parents are gone now, and the "partying" starts. First, breakfast. Well, a few days ago I saw a flyer from Loblaws about a new "Bacon Marmalade" they had, so I've been wanting to try it but I've been putting off driving to Loblaws and getting it… so I decided to stop being lazy and I went out to go get it. Also, McDonalds is near Loblaws so I went there for breakfast, seeing how it's been a while since I've been there for breakfast.
So yeah, that happened. Also, I'm bad at shopping; I went to Loblaws with the goal to just get Bacon Marmalade, and maybe some ice cream cones. I walked out of Loblaws with a chocolate bar, deodorant, bacon marmalade, and two tubs of ice cream. I guess you can't fault the deodorant, but the ice cream was a bit much. There were no ice cream cones on sale, but premium ice cream was "on sale", and first I wanted a flavour that wasn't Vinh-Compatible, so I bought a second tub that was Vinh-Compatible.
After that, went to McDonalds, got the Sausage and Egg McMuffin combo as planned, went home, and ate it. So the morning started with a slightly unhealthy breakfast. Now what? Parents are gone, but then again, parents are always gone in the morning, so Wednesday should be no different. But I didn't care, so I started watching some TV - well, it's true, I always watch some TV; I tape two shows on Tuesdays, and so I watch them on Wednesdays. Usually I would watch a show or half a show during lunch, but since I got up "earlier" it's still 10:25…
Anyway, I'm rambling now. Long story short, I was lazy and I decided to watch TV during breakfast, and I watched more and fixed some Magic decks. Speaking of which, Tuesday night, Alan and David came out for Magic, and it was fun. Alan finally has a Standard deck, which is awesome (the fact that he has a deck, not that the deck is awesome, but it's not bad). Anyway, fast forward to lunch; we had some leftovers from the other house, but I decided, since we needed meals for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, that I would order Pizza. So I ordered Pizza, kinda my usual, and I decided to try the PizzaPizza Pasta as well.
Not a good idea. The pasta was terrible (Tortelloni) - I mean, it was edible, but terrible for the price, in quantity, quality, and presentation. And my pizza? Aww man… it's been a while since I've ordered Goat Cheese on my pizza, so I decided to go back to "my roots" and put Goat Cheese on, and it… I dunno, with the bbq sauce on top, it made me feel so unhealthy. So today was turning out to be a very sloggy, unhealthy day.
At 3:00 I decided to watch more TV, haha; Conan at 3:00, Flashpoint at 4:00. Also, my friend Jeff, from highschool, was in town (he moved to Calgary after highschool). So he messages me on FB, and I message him but he doesn't respond yet; turns out he was at Niagara at the time. It would've been cool, on this boring day of mine, if he would come over and hang out… but alas, he wasn't available at the moment.
Anyway, Magic was so much fun on Tuesday, so I called up Tim and Tomson to see if they were doing anything today; sometimes they go to Wednesday Modern. Turns out they're not doing anything, so I ask if they want to come over after dinner, and they agree. Afterwards, Jeff gets back to me, and tells me he's at Niagara, but he could come afterwards, so I tell him to come too. Hehe, I double-booked my Wednesday night, with Magic Players and Video Game Players, heh. In any case, it would be some sort of party, so I call Alan but he does not respond, and I call David but he does not pick up. So now it's already about 7ish; I eat my dinner, and then I dress up a bit nicer, and now I feel much better and less groggy and tired.
I sit down, play some Modern Warfare 3 (more on that later), and then eventually Tomson and Tim come over. We go downstairs, trade some magic cards, and play some magic, and then eventually Jeff comes over, with his girlfriend Christine. We talk for a bit, but Jeff and Christine are also eating their own dinner (also Pizza Pizza, lol), so I go back to play a bit more Magic with Tomson, Tim, and Charles, Tomson's friend.
Eventually, Jeff comes down, and we chat for a bit, and after a bit of doing nothing, we decided that the atmosphere would be improved by Smash Bros. So we all scurry over to the N64, where Duy and I totally pwn the others. Tim said he was good, and I guess he was the best out of his group, but still, nowhere near our calibre. Anyhoo! After a bit of Smash, Jeff suggests we play Goldeneye, and we find it and try it out. We play a round of multiplayer, and then we kinda stopped and decided to try to unlock stuff in single player. Also, throughout Goldeneye (as well as Smash), there are plenty of laughs, and fun is had by all.
Goldeneye, such memories. So first I played Single Player, walking around in the frozen land, and I fail my mission by blowing up some control panel computer, and then later Jeff tries it and beats the mission. Anyway, now that we've had enough of Goldeneye, Tomson suggests playing a racing game. So we go upstairs, and apparently this is the first time Tomson's been in our TV Room, and immediately he abandons his racing game idea and sets his eyes on Rock Band. It was 11:45pm, so Vinh was still awake, so I ask him to set up the Rock Band.
After that, the whole bunch of us just played Rock Band for two and a half hours :D Fun times, fun times. Tomson exclaims, "instead of Magic, we'll just play Rock Band at this house from now on". Eventually, it's 2:20am, and Vinh's still awake, so we decide it's a pretty good time to end the night. It is a weekday night, after all. And with that, everyone leaves, and the night ends.
So… that was my Wednesday. What started off as a groggy, fat unhealthy day, ended up with a great, homely party night, with great friends rocking it out. I saw Jeff, whom we haven't seen in 8 years, we played Goldeneye, which we haven't touch in 10 years, and we sang songs we haven't heard in 10 years, yet Tomson still remembers as if it was yesterday. Man, Rock Band is pretty awesome. I remember a few weeks ago, my dad had a party with all his tennis friends and family, and eventually we put on Dance Central, and it was fun for some of the adults and some of the kids, but mostly it was an exercise in embarrassment. Then we put on Rock Band, and that too, we played for 2 or 3 hours. Adults and kids had fun alike, and even those shy in the background that wouldn't dare touch Dance Central, eventually joined the fun in Rock Band.
Wheeeee, that was fun! And this weekend, Alex is coming back, so I thought it'd be cool if Tim and Tomson come again this weekend; Tomson says probably for Saturday night, Tim's not sure yet. Friday is draft at Teddy's, as I still have $20 store credit there (I placed top four twice so far!). Today… hopefully today is more healthy than yesterday, hehe.
A few more notes before I end the entry… so my last entry was on the last day of October, and I mentioned upcoming games, such as Uncharted 3. As I foretold, Uncharted 3 was shipped to me on Tuesday morning, and then I played it on Thurs, Fri, and Saturday, and I beat it. It's about the same length as Uncharted 2, maybe an hour less (so 9-10 hours instead of 10-11 hours). The game is so fun and exciting that I can play it for hours on end. After that, Duy and I played a bit of co-op, and just last weekend Ricky came over, we played some co-op and Ricky started his main game. Three more visits and he should be able to complete it, no problem =)
The following Tuesday, Modern Warfare 3 came out and was shipped to me; Oh, in case you don't know, there was a sale at Futureshop; During or after E3 2011, Futureshop had an online sale, regarding pre-ordering games shown at E3. If you get one game, you get $10 off, if you get two games, you get $15 off each, and if you get three, you get $20 off each. So I pre-ordered Uncharted 3, Modern Warfare 3, and Bioshock Infinite (technically Bioshock 3) for a total of $120, instead of the normal price of $180, so that's pretty much a free game. Oddly enough, I didn't finish Bioshock 1 nor have I played Bioshock 2, but Bioshock Infinite looks to be really awesome so I took the plunge and decided to give it a chance. It's coming out sometime in 2012 but they don't know when yet :P
Anyway, back to MW3: So I got it, and I play it every now and then. I'm doing single player, and I think it's about 10 hours long, but unlike Uncharted, I'm playing it much slower; it's an FPS, and it's mostly just shooting bad guys. Uncharted had puzzles, climbing moments, running moments, shooting moments, and an exciting storyline. MW3 has mostly shooting, and there are events unfolding, but it doesn't have the same appeal as Uncharted. That said, it's still fun, and I'm getting more into the "story", but I still only play it in 45-minute chunks. I'm about 3 hours in so it will still be a while.
Last Thursday was Alex's birthday, and this past Monday was Vinh's birthday, but we haven't celebrated them yet; as said, those celebrations will happen this weekend, probably both Saturday (with friends) and Sunday (with family). Oh, and as I said, I might have company Saturday night, so maybe we can have an early dinner on Saturday. That would be cool.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot - I like Bacon Marmalade! It tastes a bit like bacon, but it has other flavours too. As the jar says: "Made with bacon, balsamic vinegar of Modena, sauteed onions and spice, this sweet and sticky, tangy and subtly smoky marmalade is sinfully delicious." I think it's a pretty neat flavour, would go well on small bread wedges with meat.
Anyhoo, that's November's blog update!
