The Day That Alan Wasn't There... but more about games.
Finally, a 3rd comment on my previous blog entry! That's my necessary condition to post another entry. No, just joking. As usual, I've just been putting off posting as there's always much more to post about, or not that much more. That, and now that I'm working full-time at WinMagic, time has been a little sparse. That, and new TV seasons are in full-swing now. That, and of course, the whole motivation-to-post-when-nobody-else-is-doing-it is a bit meh.
So part of it will be me communicating to Alan, David, Ambrose, Duy, and technically myself, things that I wouldn't normally bring up in conversation. And part of it will be me just keeping a log or a journal. So I guess I will just continue posting. Yup. Anyway, on to the blog entry.
I don't know what kind of blog post I want today. On Sunday I was going to write something about how Alan and David always come over, except for last weekend and how my world turned upside down because of it (not really, just an exaggeration). Hmm... let's talk about... games? Games and... TV... music games... and stuff...
Games I've been Playing
During the weekend Alan and David didn't come over, I bought a few more songs for Rock Band and we (Duy, Vinh, and I) spent about an hour playing these new songs as well as new music game demos, including Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero. Bought a few songs from Queen, and bought a song called "The Metal", which was on Guitar Hero 3 and it's featured in the "Brutal Legend" Track Pack. I enjoy watching the guitar track and I like singing it... but it's a pain on Hard Drums. BUT, it's fun to watch on Expert Drums, Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92IEaWOnUbY
A few weeks ago, I started watching Jon and Mai play Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, for the PS3. The game is gorgeous and a lot of fun. I only started playing it last weekend, and I wanted to catch up and surpass Jon and Mai so I wouldn't be spoiled when I watch them, so I played fast and furiously and after 11 hours spread over 6 days, I beat the game. Wow. It was a lot of fun. There even was one scene which I classify as "intense", which I never do with videogames or movies. I guess my heart was just pumping for that sequence.
Overall, a really fun game, really gorgeous and plays like a movie. My main complaint is that there's too many bad guys and things to shoot. For most of the shooting parts you're hiding behind pillars and ledges and shooting bad guys while they can't shoot you, so it's kinda slow in that way. But the over-the-top climbing and exploration parts are prett neat. I think this game partially parodies action movies. Fun fun.
Anyway, after you beat the game you get a New Game+ kinda thing, where you can buy options like One-Hit-Kills, Infinite Ammo, change your character skin, mess around with gravity and speed... so it's kinda interesting. Hopefully the shooting parts will go by quicker :)
I'm kinda considering taping the game to my Gamebridge, although then it'd be like a 10 hour movie. A good movie, but 10 hours!
Games I Want
It's the holiday season now, which usually means all the good games are coming out, and this year's no different. I haven't bought too many games in the summer, but now there's a bunch of games that I would probably want...
I want Brutal Legend (I can't get the u with the umlaut on this computer without going through some more troubles than usual). But as I said to myself, I won't buy it at $70, I'll probably wait until it's around $40, so like, in forever. Graphics are meh-ish for a next-gen game, but the game doesn't take itself too seriously, so the graphic style is kinda incorporated into that feeling. It's a fun game, not overly difficult, but I don't see myself spending a lot of money on it.
It's odd that I didn't even know Halo:ODST was out, and now that a few weeks have gone by and I haven't gotten it yet, I'm not sure if I want it, but I will probably end up getting it. It's $5 off at Toys R Us right now, so that's a little bit of an incentive :P But we'll see... gotta balance money and time.
Forza Motorsport 3 is out now, and I liked the demo, so I will definitely be getting this within the next few days. Now that I'm done Uncharted 2, I can take a small break from first person shooters and do some relaxing driving. The game has various levels of difficulty, as well as "assists" that help you drive, like ABS, Traction Control, and Stability Control, and now there's also an extra assist for people like Alan - and it's called Autobrake. The game will determine if you're going too fast into a turn, and it will brake for you. I might use it when I want a relaxing drive, but in most cases it's kinda lame, haha.
My track record (pun intended) for racing games is... ookay. I think I'm done 70% of Forza 2 and 80% of GRID, so I guess I don't really finish my games but I enjoy playing them.
The big thing on my list this year is Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, or COD6, or COD4:2, or however you want to call it. I don't really think I have to explain it. Hopefully the single-player campaign will be just as captivating as the first MW, and multiplayer also as cool. It'd be cool if local multiplayer was as cool as online multiplayer, with the customized perks and weapons. In the first MW, the lolcat multiplayer only had preset perks and weapons....
Hmm... although COD4's single player was so great, I never actually did replay the game... just one mission, the camouflage, ghillie suit mission. I even just "listen" to it sometimes... I'll do that now :)
Games that are Coming Out
I played the demo for NFS:Shift. I loved the presentation. Each track has a 2-minute video where the announcer tells you everything about the track... unfortunately, the game plays like crap. At least, compared to Forza and other games. I haven't been able to play an Need For Speed game for long since Most Wanted.
Lego Rock Band and Band Hero are being released next week, both on the same day. Our expected value is that we'll get Lego Rock Band, but maybe not Band Hero. I guess it just depends on the track list for most of it. But I think we'll be getting Lego Rock Band, hehe.
DJ Hero just came out, and we didn't pounce on the bandwagon yet... I guess we're just unsure of the product. My friend from work got it, and he says it's amazing. We should just get it, now. He got the special edition too, which is $220 instead of $130, and he's loving it. He said we can borrow it sometime, so we'll probably wait for that before making a major purchasing decision. Oh yeah, I found this... thing. Maybe you'll enjoy it? http://www.dothedaft.com/idaft/
TV Shows I've been Watching
In Jamaica, I bought a dvd of an anime called Ah My Buddha, which I guess is the sequel to Ah My Goddess. I think I got volume 5, or episodes 14-17. I would classify this as an impulse buy, just wanting to watch a new anime. Maybe the fanservice on the back of the dvd helped. So just last weekend, I started watching it. And fan servicey it is, hehe. I'm enjoying it, hehe. It's a few inches away from being a Hentai, haha. 2 episodes down, 2 episodes left.
Lately, Mai has been on a Criminal Minds... addiction? No, that's not it. Anyway, last Sunday we watched 8 episodes in a row, haha. Kinda like when Jia and Alex came over and we watched 7 episodes in a row. Speaking of which, Criminal Minds is one of my favourite shows on TV right now. CSI's alright, but I'm liking Criminal Minds more. I still watch Heroes, and I'm watching Flashpoint every week now... haven't seen that much Dollhouse this season... 30 Rock is back, and so far there's been 3 episodes and some have been pretty funny. I started watching Simpsons again, starting with the two Halloween specials, yay.
I bought Battlestar Galactica Season 3, so hopefully I'll open it and watch it soon, instead of having it sealed behind my desk forever, like a lot of my other things. I also bought Transformers Season 2, although I'd rather want Season 3. So in an effort to not have it sealed forever, I opened it and watched a few episodes. Lulz. Still good though, but it seems like there were some episodes I don't remember well, and they're pretty lolzy.
Anyway, that's it! Time to go rake leaves..Labels: criminal minds, uncharted
