Watching Men, Losing Lasers, Shoeless Turtles, Ignited Chameleons, Smart Chalets, Magical Movies, and a River of Lies

Okay, it's about time for another quasi-monthly update! Actually, it's Wednesday, and I wanted to write an entry since last Wednesday so... it's been like a week of procrastinating and adding more things to my "to-blog-about" list, so I'm finally putting my foot down and writing about stuff. Also, I'm at work, and I just finished some section of my game and I don't feel like working on it right now so I'm blogging. All in all, enough reasons to blog.

As many of my entries are, this entry will be a crapshoot of random things, each having their own separate paragraph, and each coming with a nicely coloured, bolded, biggened title text. It's now about 3:30, so I hope to finish this entry... soon? 45 minutes, maybe? We'll see. Anyway, I tried to cram a lot of stuff into this entry's title, and they are: Watching Men, Losing Lasers, Shoeless Turtles, Ignited Chameleons, Smart Chalets, Magical Movies, and a River of Lies... so about 13 things = 13-26 Paragraphs. Maybe I'll add a bonus little thing at the very end.

Lost

I'm loving Lost this season. OMG, after watching last week's episode, or the week before, I wanted to write about it. I'll keep it spoiler-free, but... yeah. At first, I was kinda meh, like, if the story featured too much Desmond it would've ended up too convoluted, but they didn't, so yay. I'm liking Locke this time around too. Season 4 was all about Ben, this time I'm looking forward to more Locke. Only slight problem was that there are a bunch of story lines, so while Sawyer's story was really interesting, I really wanted to see more of Locke and his "coming back."

But, it seems the stories are starting to come back together, so it'll be interesting. I'm looking forward to tonight, although the previews make it look less interesting than the other episodes. And while we're discussing TV, Heroes is... it's alright. I'm liking some of it, but it's not as captivating as usual. And 24... wow. Crisis after Crisis after Crisis. There are some things that can only be done in the world of 24, so it's enjoyable. And unlike other stories where you spend an entire episode on one storyline, in 24, you see all the storylines happen at once, so that's good too.

Magic

A short paragraph about Magic... so for those interested (Alan, David, Geoff?, Vinh?, etc), I've started writing articles (started today) and putting them on my other blog. My other blog hasn't had activity for about a month, so I'm starting to write semi-weekly articles about things that interest me in Magic... so... go on over and post!

Movies

If you're not interested in movies, skip the next few paragraphs. I've been watching a bunch of movies lately, kinda, sorta, so the next few paragraphs are about different movies. But first, I have to let out a little rant about the Cineplex website. I almost started writing this entry right after this incident, which would give this entry a rather unpleasant mood... But anyway...

Cineplex

I now hate this website so much. So the other day I was supposed to go online and buy tickets to Watchmen, so now you have to register. So I registered under my hotmail account, and I put in my SCENE number, but I put it in wrong because the numbers on the card were hard to read with the background. So guess what? There is NO WAY to change your SCENE number once you make your account. I tried clicking on twenty different things, but there is no way to change it. It keeps saying that my scene number is wrong, DUH, so I try to change it but there's no way. I tried to erase my account, but it won't let me.

So I make a new account in my gmail name, so it goes more smoothly because I type in the right number, and then I go to buy the tickets and it says the show is sold out :( So I go upstairs to tell Duy the bad news, and he proceeds to tell Raymond, who then visits the site and tells us that the tickets are NOT sold out, and he goes on to buy them for us.

So... long story short: The Cineplex website sucks, and I hate it. Anyway, I blocked their e-mail so I won't be receiving any junk or anything from them. Anyway, continuing on to the movies, starting from High Profile movies to the Lower Profile movies...

Watchmen

First thing I'll say is that I didn't enjoy it as much as everyone is hyping it out to be. In the beginning it was a bit confusing with the timelines and all the people, but that was oookay... I like Rorschach's character, or at least, the way the black ink travels in his face; looks pretty cool. In the end, it was... ookay. It was made by the same people that made 300, but in 300, every scene was beautifully shot, and totally epic. This movie did have some really beautiful scenes every now and then, instead of throughout the whole thing, so that was kinda cool.

Dr. Manhattan: Such Hax.
Comedian: Pure jerk. Kinda made me uneasy watching him.
Rorschach: I liked how he looked. He became less awesome once they revealed he had a face, haha, but that's too bad.

Also, because of the assassination at the beginning, everytime I saw huge glass windows (like those in Adrian's office), and everytime there was a blimp floating in the background, I was always expecting a sniper shot to come from those blimps.... hehe...

::edit:: from watchmen, I now can't stop listening to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hUy9ePyo6Q

Body of Lies

Hm... I just saw the movie yesterday, so I thought I would mention it, but now that I have I'm not sure what I want to say. I guess it's a decent kind of movie, good performances, and some ideas here and there and... whatever. I think it was a pretty good movie, although I don't really have much of significance to say. Although... there's a lot of morally grey in this movie - about how there's a war and sometimes people have to die, and how nobody's innocent... so if that makes you irk, then... be careful...

Get Smart

Get Smart... is actually... pretty good! The funniness level is alllllright, but the action level is pretty good for the type of film it is. As always, watching Dwayne Johnson is a good time, and Hathaway actually looks pretty good. Carrell isn't annoying or anything, so overall it was a good time. Anyways, I thought I've seen more movies, but it turns out I've just been watching a lot of TV. Anyway, the movie section is over... onto...

Lazer Tag

So about a week ago, Isaque bought a bunch of Lazer Tag guns, on sale, from Walmart, and then on Friday we went over there and played with them. A group of us (Hawk, Eagle, Bao, Duy, and at first George and later Dwayne) went to the park and played with them; sometimes solo, sometimes team games.

The guns are actually kinda sophisticated, I mean, with the features they have. There's a lifebar, and there's ammo, and there's a way to reload, and use shield, and there's a shotgun, and the guns know what team you're on (because there's a setting). The guns even come with a Duck-Hunt-type game you could play on your TV.

We had some good fun. Well, it's a bit nonsensical, with a lack of rules and a lack of obstacles to hide around. We even tried to make a Halo-esque Zombie Infection type game, and that kinda worked. Overall, fun times, and gave us a reason to go outside and run around.

Hawk's now on a mission to get everyone to buy some guns... I think we will! Heh. At least, I would, if Duy drove me to Walmart, haha. It'll eat up a lot of batteries, but nowadays you can buy 40 AA batteries for about $10... so it's not so bad.

(note it's about 4:02 now, and apparently we're leaving the office, so I'll continue this entry at home... ugh... now I gotta use this maths thing we were taught in school)

(Okay, it's about 6:13 now, so 2:11 later. I'll factor that out of the time it took me to write this blog entry. Came home, played some Magic with Vinh, etc...)

Kid Chameleon

So I got the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, which is about 40 games that were on the Genesis - like Streets of Rage and the Sonic games, and a bunch of other cool titles from Phantasy Star to Golden Axe to Altered Beast to Vectorman, and so on. On Saturday, before the movie, Ray came over and Duy and him watched as I played some games I've heard about but have never played. The first is Comix Zone, which was kinda cool, but then I died and apparently I only had one life so I was greeted to a Game over sequence where the arch-evil-badguy won...

The second game was Kid Chameleon, which is one of the most jerk-ful games I've played in a while. Many times I would jump down a hole (that I'm supposed to) and land on a bunch of spikes, or roll down a hill and land into a bunch of spikes. Man, it was so jerk-like... but I'll continue playing it, haha. Granted, I haven't picked up the game since that Saturday, but when I have some time I'll be sure to play it again.

Deep River Phonebook

I was cleaning the other day and found a 2009 Deep River Phonebook! It was really really thin, which is notably funny, but the main question was how did it get here? My theory was that Jia was on the way over here, but then forgot that he had to check his mail, so he brought his mail from Deep River all the way here... turns out I was pretty correct. It did come from Jia... heh. Anyway, anyone wanna visit 27 Tamarack?

IGNITE

This Saturday is Ignite, the Vietnamese Culture Show, put on from all the different universities. So... umm... we're going. Usually we have friends over on Sunday anyways, so this shouldn't really concern any of you. But anyway, it should be fun, and I thought it was worth mentioning.

Turtle Jacks

On Friday we went to Hawk's, and afterwards he was going out to a neighbour's house for dinner so Duy and I drove around and decided to go to Turtle Jacks. Haven't been there before, so let's try it out.

Place looks like Montana's, apparently it has a Muskoka theme to it. Menu looks pretty good, a bit pricey, but overall not bad. I think the words "goat cheese" and "blue cheese" impress me, so if I see it all over the menu, I think highly of the restaurant. Anyway, Duy got some chicken dish and I was torn between a Sirloin Burger or Chicken Wings, because I was in the mood for them. The menu had 2 distinct types of chicken wings, so I suddenly got a craving for Morty's Chicken Wings (who wants to go to Waterloo just for that? And, well, to see Wen too..)... unfortunately, Turtle Jack's "big" wing was kinda small and disappointing.

Their french fries are horrible.

Overall, not good. Now, I'm a guy who likes to give second chances, so I wouldn't mind going just once more, but seriously, it's not something we'd consider to go to again unless the other choices are absolutely horrible. So I think Turtle Jacks and Boston Pizza are both kinda low on our scale now...

Shoeless Joe's

On Saturday, before the movie, we went to Shoeless for dinner. Nothing much to say here, but they had some cheap deals, which Ray and Ambrose and Duy partook in; I almost got their "small" portion of Wings and Ribs for $10, but instead I opted for my usual Chipotle Bison Burger with the side of Sweet Potato Fries, yum yum. Ray had a lesser experience with his 8oz Top Sirloin, so whether or not he'll go there again is up in the air. But I love it there, and I wouldn't mind some cheap Rib/Wing combo right about now.

Swiss Chalet

Went out to eat Friday noon (Pizza Hut lunch buffet), Friday night (Turtle Jacks Wings), Saturday night (Shoeless Joe's Bison Burger), and then on Sunday, with David and Alan and Duy, went out to Quiznos with some coupons, but it was closed so we went to Swiss Chalet with some coupons instead. I told David and Alan that I would blog about this so here I am... after looking over the menu plus the coupons, we opted for a family meal that contained a full rack of ribs and a full chicken, with a bunch of sides and gravy and chalet sauce and some pie. The family meal was only for take-out or delivery, but we pulled some strings with our waitress and we ended up eating there. Overall, good affordable meal.

????

Anyway, that brings us close to the end of the blog entry. This Saturday is busy, but I have a birthday coming up, so... tentatively, I'm thinking about having a party! It feels a bit "wrong" to not have a party, and I used to throw good parties so it only makes sense to have one. I love the company. Not sure what we're doing yet (last year was D&B, this year maybe we'll just relax at home or start with an awesome dinner out and then head home?)... so we'll see.

Hmm, I'm liking this dinner idea. Somewhere nice, like a Canyon Creek / Lobster Rouge / Red Baton kinda shindig, and then come over, play Rock Band into the night and then settle down with Portal again... or something like that. I'm sure we'll think of something. Anyway, I'll think of the details, ask around, ask the folks, and then I'll make a facebook event thingamajiggy when I find out when everyone's free.

Anyway, it's 6:35 now, so this entry took... 3 hours and 5 minutes! Minus 2 hours and 11 minutes! No way... took less than an hour? Well, now comes the formatting time, so let's bump it up to about 60-65 minutes... and yeah. Oh man, I end the entry with a boring statistic... should've just left it with the tentative birthday celebration thing. Maybe we can go to Shoeless for the birthday and order a ton of appetizers I wouldn't normally get...

::Edit:: I'm writing this here so that when I scroll down to check for comments, I know where to stop... so
