Dollhouses and Links

Just a mini update! It's been a bit more than 2 weeks since I last updated, which is okay, compared to the usual 4 weeks between updates, right? So, just a few things. Well, technically a lot, but technically not a lot.

So of course, I had a birthday, and then a birthday party, and I also went to that IGNITE culture show. There was the super smash bros. tournament in Waterloo, went with David, saw Wen there, ate wings... more on that later.

TV-wise... Lost still amazing, last episode of Heroes was reallly good. I forgot to mention Dollhouse last time I updated... it's another Joss Whedon series. Ever since Firefly, I'm on the lookout for shows featuring Joss Whedon or Nathan Fillion. Then again, I haven't seen Castle yet... Anyway, I'm enjoying Dollhouse. People (read: Dad and Sister) keep asking me what it's about... I missed the first few episodes, but from what I've seen, There are these people living in a house, or like a nice retreat. I assume they're there for some kind of paid experiment or some better living training thing...

Anyway, this place is really a guise or something for a secret facility... anyway, so let's say they need the work of a master thief, or a bodyguard, or a chef or whatever - there's this brainwashing chair that these people sit into, and then they brainwash these people to become these master thiefs or chefs or whatever, then they go out, do the mission, come back, and get back into the chair and go back to normal. Whenever they go back to normal, they always ask "did I fall asleep?", so... yeah, they didn't know they did these things.

Like "My Own Worst Enemy", Eliza Dushku's character sometimes experiences moments where she becomes herself again while on a job, so it's affecting her, and that's... partially what the thing is about, like My Own Worst Enemy. Anyway, I'm liking it; so far, it's not particularly deep or anything, but I just read somewhere that the series doesn't really start until today's episode. That is, long story short, network execs wanted Whedon to make the first 6 episodes pretty stand-alone so that people can enter at anytime, but now that people know of the show, Whedon can start with the actual story part. Kinda like the Firefly fiasco, I'm assuming.

WOW, I talked A LOT about Dollhouse. Didn't mean to. Anyway, the other TV thing I wanted to mention was Better Off Ted, which started last wednesday... and I'm enjoying it too! It's a smart comedy about a few people working at a research and development place, where they do crazy things, like weaponize pumpkins, or create heat-resistant computer mice... this recent episode had them create cow-less beef.... and so on. So far I'm liking it :)

What else do I have written here to write about... Ignite? I posted 2 pictures on Facebook. Steak Sandwiches? I posted 1 steak sandwich on facebook, but I love steak sandwiches now. $20 for 8oz steak, or $14 for 6oz steak sandwich? It's a good deal if you don't want to spend too much, and the steak is still a steak; it's not like, grounded or anything like that. You still order it medium-rare and eat it with a steak knife and fork. It has some baguettes on the side and stuff. Good deal for lunch, especially if your coworkers are spending $10-$12. You'd feel bad if you bought a $25 steak.

Moxie's steak sandwich: Amazing. Jack Astor's: Gives you more stuff on the side, but I think the steak-cut wasn't as good as Moxie's. Never went to Hero Certified Burgers before, until a few weeks ago, and had a crappy steak sandwich there. ugh.

Smash tourney, wings, hanging out with Wen; that's next update. But we did mention XKCD, so to those interested, here's the link:

http://www.xkcd.com/557/

Also, when Wen asked about the image-tag, I said the wrong one... anyway, here's the failblog thingy for the Verizon 000.00002 cents thing:

Last but not least for this blog... Shazam! So you've probably seen that iPhone App commercial about Shazam... long story short, you can be listening to the radio, and if you need to know what song it is, you can open this App and it will tell you what song it is! I find that technology really amazing. I wonder how they do it!

If I had to guess, it would record the sample, and then split it up (ambience noise, drum parts, melody, etc.) and then make a comparison to ALL PARTS of ALL SONGS in iTunes and pick the best one and give it to you. It records a 15 second clip and then it takes 10-20 seconds to find it, so it's really amazing.

Anyway, so I was listening to one of Ambrose's mp3s, and I thought "haha, Shazam can't possibly identify this song!" ... and then this is what Shazam gave me:

Touché, Shazam. Touché. Well played.

Anyway, that's it. Actually, one more thing:

I'm a fan of comics like this! There was another one on Nedroid that I liked, I linked to Wen but he found it kinda meh, I think.

Anyway, that's it. I have to process the videos and pictures and all that, before next update.
