David's Movie Resume
First, single run-on paragraph to summarize other things besides the main point of this post: Heroes is back, yay; Lost is back, yay; 24 is back, yay; saw 2 episodes of Fringe, it's weird and sci-fi weirdness but interesting so I will continue watching it; Fishburne is alright; Winterlicious pictures are up on facebook; check up there, new blog/link menu header thing; saw Zohan, pretty good; saw Bangkok Dangerous, too many different genres (mix assassination and love) so overall I don't like it.
So this past week and a little bit before, I've been staying home from work; partially because I was sick, and now I'm pretty much better, but my desk has been taken over, plus I can do my work at home so I don't really have to come to the office. That said, David has been coming over more often, like, during the week. (theoretically, David comes over in the evening, so even if I wasn't home all day then he could still come over).
So anyway, in addition to the usual Rock Band and Magic, David decided to start branching out to different genres of movies, or different movies in general. So we watched 20+ minutes of a bunch of different movies. So I thought I would list his/our progress here, and maybe we can suggest other movies, or whatever, or provide your own opinions or whatever else.... so...
Transformers - 30 minutes? - he won't be watching more, but he enjoyed some of it...
Transmorphers - 25 minutes - umm... yeah, he's not watching more of that o_O
Ocean's Eleven - watched half - he might be continuing this. We started watching this because I know he watched Ocean's Twelve; so he broke a cardinal rule of movie-watching: When choosing to watch a movie or its sequel(s), you either choose the first movie or the best movie. Since Ocean's Twelve is clearly not the first and clearly the worst, he broke the cardinal rule. So we gave Ocean's Eleven a try. Iffy if he'll continue it.
Independence Day - everything except the last 20 minutes - I guess David loses focus on movies if they go on too long. But other than the actiony parts, he's finding the movie very enjoyable. We'll watch the ending sometime...
Dark Knight - everything except the last 20 minutes - likes it. Once again, long movie, will resume again soon.
Inside Man - watched half - I don't think he'll continue this.
Talladega Nights - 40 minutes - I haven't seen it either, and he seems to like it. I thought it was alright. Will continue soon.
Minority Report - We watched like 20 minutes of it a few years ago, and I briefly mentioned it to him but I think he's interested in watching more.
Firefly - previously watched (in order) episodes 8, 7, 6, and today watched 14 and then 10. He liked both, 14 (Objects in Space) is his favourite thus far. I'm sure we'll watch more episodes soon.
300 - My uncle borrowed it, so we couldn't watch that, but he really wanted to so it's on this list.
Flight of the Conchords - My sister let someone borrow it, so we couldn't watch that, but it's something I will show him when I can.
So... yes. That's what we have so far. So I think David doesn't mind action as long as there's not too much... also movies with actors he likes (Clooney, Eckhart) are better for him. Also, he's not really into mysteries like I am... or mystery is the wrong word, more like, he doesn't find enjoyment in finding out how something will play out, like the execution of the heist in ocean's eleven, or what will happen next (in the heist) of inside man.
Annyway, so while I had some time off, and since David is expanding his movies-watched-list, I had some time to watch some movies that much-needed my attention; so I watched the Bourne Identity and Supremacy; haven't seen Ultimatum yet.
Identity was alright - sorta knowing that it's part of a trilogy (rather than seeing it when it first came out, not knowing if there are other movies), you kinda look forward to something. Some of the first movie felt disjointed, but then again, the main character was like that so... I dunno. I really enjoyed Supremacy, although there were a lot of car chases... hmm... I'm not usually a fan of Julia Stiles, but in the two Bourne movies I've seen she looks really good!
And seeing Joan Allen again as a woman with power (the other movie was Death Race) was good for me. Heh, I always compare her to the innocent old wife in Face/Off, so having her in a position of power is pretty different. She looks good too. I'm looking forward to Ultimatum.
So... I guess that's that! Any Family Day plans? Movie recommendations?Labels: movies
