Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
Now that that's out of the way... well, what to blog about? Most of you know what happened during the break. I took some pictures, maybe I'll post them later, although most of them are just there to remind us who was there. We're not the type to "smile for the camera", so most of my shots are just candid shots. It's as if Eric needs an alibi to his whereabouts on January 2nd, so we can give our pictures to the police to verify that. But nobody's smiling or looking at the camera or anything.
Also, pictures show us what foods we've eaten. But, I guess I should write something... maybe this time next year I'll wonder what we did for Christmas, so I'll look at this and I'll see:
Imperial Buffet restaurant after going to the dentist, ate spiced squid (with sugar, yummy), bought 3/$10 movies, including Lost Empire, which I started watching with Jia, but finished it today. Back of the box says "Impressive Spectacle", and... it's actually not too bad. It has B-movie written all over it, but then they added enough stuff and silly effects to make it stand out as an almost real movie. It's like how Dead or Alive is awesome. Only negative is that it goes on for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long.
Jia comes over, stays through Christmas, goes home on New Years eve, and then comes back on the 2nd for that party we had, which wasn't so much as a party as it was a big-get-together. For the record, I call it a party when I can have a lot of MY own-aged friends come over, but I didn't really ask that many people this time... it was a pretty spontaneous party, so I didn't feel like asking too many. Eric, Jody, and Donny were the odd ones out, so that was okay. David came over at night, played Secret of Mana, and then the game froze after we beat the Fire Giant (just before receiving gnome), and then we went to bed and David stayed up all night playing Braid.
Had a magic draft before that (not with David), 'twas fun. Cousins came over (this is not chronological at all). Played a lot of Rock Band 2 with Wen. Psycho Killer... Quest-ce que cest? fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa.... ahem. Jia bought Dokapon Kingdom, we did a lot of that. And by we, I mean them, I didn't play it that much. Played some EDF, Jia bought some games like Bullet Witch. Ate T&T stuff, went with Wen and Alan there, and David, and etc... Richard Cao came over for a bit. Played Halo 3 with Eric Langlois, haven't done that in a while. We hooked up two xboxes together in the basement, but Eric forgot his copy of Halo 3 so we didn't really do anything.
Isaque this, Jia that, David this, Alan that, Donny this, Eric that, Eric2 this, Ambrose that, Ray this, Jody that, cousin1 this, cousin2 that, Wen this, Richard that. A lot of eating out, some cooking here, some cooking there, a lot of different people sleeping over. Not a lot of alcohol, a lot of gaming, a bit of movie watching (at home).
Watched "Friends" with David, drafted with cousins and drafted with alan and donny. Went boxing day shopping with Alan, David, Ambrose, Jia, Eric (Jia's brother), Duy, Bao, and myself. I hope I didn't forget anyone, it's been a while. Didn't buy toooo much on boxing day, but bought a lot, A LOT of stuff online. Most of everything has been shipped and it's all good.. amazon is now sending me Criminal Minds season 1, and I never watched Arrested Development but people say it's a good show so season 1 of that is headed my way too.
Edit: Also updated my Guitar Hero collection! I mean, before we had GH1-3 on PS2, but thanks to cheap boxing day deals I've finally updated my guitar hero collection to Xbox360. So now we have GH2 and GH3 for Xbox 360, and we're currently unlocking songs again. Also because of the cheap deals, we now have 1 rock band guitar and 3 guitar hero guitars for the 360... hmm...
Last but not least, in terms of purchases, I made a rather pricey purchase from futureshop, and they'll be sending me something in a few days. I tell myself it's kinda pricey, but then I think about how it's an investment, and how I've always wanted it and how it'll take away some fear and a lot of stress and stuff. No, it's nothing to do with dating or phobias or anything... anyways, I'd write about what it is, but as David left yesterday night, I told him that he'll notice something different about the living room the next time he comes, so it makes more sense for me to keep it secret until you actually see it.
Geoff was supposed to come to the Jan 2 party, but miscommunications ensued and it didn't happen. Now it's 12:46AM, so I'm going to bed in a few minutes, BUT Geoff sent me a facebook message which prompted me to write this entry, and I didn't want to go to bed just yet so I decided to write this entry.
Winterlicious 2009 - Jan 30 to Feb 12, reservations start Jan 15. Who's in?
I just spent a few minutes looking at menus, and it seems some of the prices went up. Places like Acqua and Fred's Not Here still have $20 lunches and $35 dinners (Wait - Fred's Not Here didn't have $35 dinners... they had the cheaper ones... hmm)... but places like Epic and Canoe have $45 dinners now. I doubt it'll be a massive concern for Winterlicious-go-ers, but it's just an observation that I'm making.
Anyway, let's do something again. I'm not picky. And as Ray always says, "choose by Restaurant, not by menu", which seems alright by me. If anyone wants to do some smaller dinners too (so not all of us as a group, just a select few or whatever), I'm always up for that too. yay.
And... I hope I didn't forget anything. So... yeah. Let's talk about Winterlicious.
