Movies, Games, and Events

Monthly Update time! It's 11:17am right now, let's see how long it takes me to write about these 17 small points.

Movie - Transmorphers - IMDB gives it 1.8, so I expected 1.8, and I wasn't disappointed. Well, I would give it a 3.2 or so, but you know my generous marking scheme. Overall, it's a pretty bad movie, but it's bad enough that you can laugh at it sometimes. It's like as if I decided to film a movie right now... it would be like that. I would ask Hawk to make 3d robots for me, and.. yeah. Hawk might end up making better 3d robots, but overall the film would be pretty bad.

Transformers had 1-2 primary hot women in the movie, while Transmorphers has a bunch of women in the movie, but none of them really hot... Some of them aren't bad, so it kinda evens out. I wouldn't mind watching it again with a bunch of people, hehe.

Movie - Lady and the Highwayman - Went to Hawaii, saw GameStop's special "buy two used dvds, get four free"; so Lady and the Highwayman was $2, and there were 4 other movies that were $2 each, so I bought 5 movies for $4 total. Not too shabby. Anyway, Lady and the Highwaymen stars Hugh Grant and some other people... overall, I liked the movie! It's a Robinhood/Zorro kind of movie, set it way old times where there were kings and guillotines and all that. IMDB gives it 5.5, I'll give it 7.6. It's not my regular type of movie so maybe it's actually way worse than what I think of it.

Movie - Against All Hope - one of Michael Madsden's first films. Eww. The first 7 minutes were mindlessly boring, but after that it was flashback time and in the flashback it's about a little boy, and not about Michael Madsden's screwed up life. About 20 minutes in the DVD stopped working, yay. Bad movie. I can't watch it anymore.

Movie - Cypher - stars Lucy Liu among other people, I think it's 2-4 years old. Overall, a very twisty movie, with some twists here and there and kinda weird. Overall I kinda enjoyed it. I recommend watching it if there's nothing else to watch. If you like some twists, then you could watch it. It's an actiony story about a man that's about to be brainwashed, but he gets saved by Lucy Liu and now they have to breakdown this organization and do whatever.

Movie sorta - Iron Man deleted scenes - awesome stuff. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I highly recommend it, and then watch the Deleted Scenes. There's about 20 minutes worth of stuff there, and it totally changes the pacing of the movie. The hijack/capture scene at the beginning has been lengthened, the airport something scene has been lengthened with a whole military salute march, and Tony Stark even has a party in Dubai at one point. There's also a speech between the bad guy and Ironman at the end of the movie. Overall, really interesting that they were in the movie before being deleted. Much better than other deleted scenes.

Movies - Anacondas 3 - not good. At one point, you can even see a camera man in the background. I guess the movie wasn't horrible... but it wasn't good. That's enough to say about that. If you are a collector or completionist, I guess you can watch it, but other than that, it's no good. Komodo vs Cobra was much better... actually, Komodo vs Cobra was overall a great movie, in a "so bad it's funny" way.

Movie - Limey - Saw this for 15 minutes in Montreal, then fast forwarded and wached another 1-2 minutes every now and then for a total of half an hour. I don't think you guys will ever find this movie, but in case you do, I recommend that you do not watch it. Weak action, not a good plot (from what we've seen), and I think the movie tries hard to be a non-comedy Snatch and... stuff... ...

Movie - Death Race - Hehe. Saw Death Race this weekend, on a tv, not in theatres or whatever. My sis watched it first, and then recommended it to us and we watched it again. If you don't mind deaths, it's not too bad of a movie. Speed Racer was F-Zero: The Movie, and this is Carmaggedon/Twisted-Metal/Full-Auto: The Movie. It's entertaining, and it's presented pretty well. I enjoyed it, and now it's on my computer so you guys can watch it if you want. Just turn off your brain and enjoy.

Event - Alan's Birthday - Alan's birthday was fun. Went to Red Lobster with him and a bunch of his friends, overall a good time. It was good seeing Betty and Victoria again. Driving to and from Toronto (Duy was driving) was ookay, but maybe it's more efficient if we take the subway/go-bus combo next time. One day I'll go to Red Lobster and just buy the Rock Lobster Tail. I want to know what it is and why it's so expensive compared to most other things on the menu.

Event - Wen - Wen came over the other day - played some games, went to eat, nothing too spectacular but overall still cool.

Event - Montreal - This past weekend we went to Montreal, to celebrate a 40th anniversary, and to celebrate Vinh's birthday and Khoi's birthday. Ate good food, watched some fun movies, and played and drafted a lot of Magic. Overall a fun time. I was going to post this update before the weekend, but alas, that didn't happen.

Magic - Vinh's Set - Vinh's fake magic set is finally done, and we had a chance to draft it in Montreal. Overall, a good set, with simple mechanics and understandable cards, much more than my set. Small things on small creatures still have a good interaction with each other. My set was too crazy, with little card interaction, and just a big mishmash of mechanics and interesting ideas. In that way, I think Vinh's set wasn't overwhelming, but part of a fake's set ideology is that you use things that are totally different than real magic. It did feel like a real magic set, so it was draftable, but it seemed a little underwhelming. But in a way, if it's still fun, then maybe that was his job.

Game - Bao's Flash Game - I recently released my new demo version of my flash game! I'm pretty happy with it, even though there are still a few glaring bugs. Jia and Duy have already played it, so I guess I'll give you guys the link to play it too. Here ya go:

http://www.baomon.com/board/megaman_1035.html

EXE link and release notes are on that page too. Read the release notes as it loads, and read them before complaining about bugs. Enjoy! Next release won't be for a while. I might take a break from programming this game, or at least, I won't be working on it as hard for a while.

Document - Tutorial - Jia has asked me if I could make a tutorial (not exact wording, but it sounds like a challenge) so I'm in the process of creating a tutorial for creating flash games. I've uploaded Flash onto my website, if you want the link let me know and I'll give it to you. It's Flash MX2004, so it's not the newest version, and it weighs in at 65 megs, so it's quite speedy and worth it. So over the next little while I hope to upload some flash tutorials.

Event - Jia's coming - I think Jia's back in 'ssauga now, for a conference for these few days. Tomorrow (Tuesday) night we're going out for Sushi at Prince Sushi. And... that's it.

Games - Duy and everyone else now has the new WOW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, so they'll be pretty busy with that. Alan now has Red Alert 3, so I guess he'll start on that soon.. I have it too, and until now I've been busy with my flash game, so I think I'll start it up too soon. Tales of Symphonia 2 is out, we have yet to get it but we'll get it soon. My xbox is still not functioning, but I'll work on that soon. Since my xbox isn't working, I haven't been up to date with the new games, like Gears2 and... all those other xbox games. Not sure if LBP interests me, but we'll see.

AND... that's it! 11:17 - 11:51 is 34 minutes, 34 minutes for 17 points sounds about right. I started wanting to write about 12 points, but just added more points as I remembered about them. A huge update every month... I wish I would write more often, smaller updates more often, but I guess I've been lazy. So the end result is a hard-to-read-but-very-informative blog post, very-occasionally. Oh well.

At least I'm writing something. Anyway, it's almost lunch time... we have some left-overs from the 40th-anniversary dinner from Montreal. That reminds me... I had ribs at Swiss Chalet the other day, in Port Hope, but they weren't very good. Then my theory was that they were taking ribs off the menu, and they were making them worse so nobody would be sad. They already took off the chocowiggler! And after the meal, some of us had the festive special so it comes with Lindtor (sp?) chocolate truffles, but they had weird flavours and they didn't have the dark chocolate (blue) one. So another theory was that when the festive special went away, nobody would miss it either.

Just kidding. But yeah, the ribs were much worse. Next time, I'll ask for extra bbq sauce on my ribs. That'll be interesting.
Harveys also has red hot sauce now, at least the one in... Cornwall? Yes. That is all.

11:56 now. That ending took 5 minutes to write, but I kinda wanted to wriite it, so it's oookay. Time to stop rambling. And last but not least:
