FLASSSHHHH
This update is about Flash! If you don't have Flash, not to fear. If you want it, I can give you a link =). So David, Alan, etc... send me an e-mail, and then you shall receive Flash.
Tutorial - So the other day, Jia wanted some hints and tips to get started, so I started writing a tutorial, and the first part of my Flash-game-making tutorial is up! I got Vinh and Jia to go through it, with relative ease, and I think it's working out so far! Now that I have a good audience, I'll probably update it faster than I planned to.
To check out my tutorial, go to my other blog, at http://bao-of-space.blogspot.com/
Little Bao Planet! - First, to recap from the last post (which only Wen replied to), here's my latest and greatest version of my Megaman game: http://www.baomon.com/board/megaman_1035.html . To explain again, lately I've been frequenting a message board on gamefaqs, and then I decided to start building a game for them, so you'll find a lot of cameos in the game of different users from the message board, but it shouldn't make the game any less fun to play. Enjoy!
Secondly, the new sub-game, is Little Bao Planet, or Little Mega Planet, or whatever. After completing the latest version of the megaman game, I took a break and brushed up on some flash stuff, like getting Flash to communicate with ASP, and in turn ASP with databases, which brings us to this project. I now have Little Bao Planet, which has two parts - "play" the game, and "create a level."
In create a level, you do just that; you move walls around, you add enemies here and there, and then you customize it with your own background and soundtrack. Then when you save the level, it writes your level into a database.
Then, in the "play game" mode, it loads all the levels that have been saved to the database, and then you get to play through them. So Wen can make a level, and then Alan can make a level, and then David can make a level, and then when any user runs the game, they can play through all those levels that other people have made. I think it's a pretty spiffy experiment, and it's working out pretty well. It's not bug free, but it's pretty cool. Check it out:

I'm trying to think of other users for the database... I don't think it will be efficient for a real time multiplayer game though... I don't want people writing to and querying from the database every couple seconds... that'd be too much. But oh well. I'll think of something.
/////////// non flash stuff
PASSWORD - lately we've been playing a lot of this real-life game. Almost everyone who reads this blog except David and Wen now have played this game with us already, so I don't think I need to mention it more unless someone asks. But we've expanded this to our parents too, so... that's pretty cool.
QUANTUM OF SOLACE - hmm... meh? I dunno... okay, so there are people who like this James Bond, and there are people who like the Brosnan James Bond, and I think I'm the latter. To me, a good James Bond movie will involve an Aston Martin equipped with weapons, fighting a Jaguar equipped with weapons, driving and drifting across ice sheets, while an evil maniac is using an ion cannon to destroy an ice hotel and North Korea. I'd rather watch that, than say, a man with a gun, chasing another man with a gun, through corridors and staircases and across rooftops, while a man plans to become rich by being the only owner of all the oil in a certain country, thus becoming the biggest utility/oil provider and making billions.
To me, the second description fits any regular action movie, while the first just fits a flashy james bond. So I dunno... I prefer the Brosnan bonds to these bonds. I can just file this into a "standard action movie" category. So I thought it was pretty meh.
Hancock out today, Transporter 3 out tomorrow. Just FYI :)
And that's it! If you're interested in Flash, let me know. Or if you want, check out my tutorial first, and then see if you want to try it out. If Vinh can do it, so can you! Right? Right?
