Transition Lenses

Wow, haven't blogged a real post in over a month! I guess I haven't had much time, and today I still don't have much time, but I think it'd be proper if I did write at least a little something something. In no particular order...

Kung Fu Panda is awesome. Top notch animation and art style (not just good computer graphics, but also the art direction and the kungfuey feeling) and very good overall. I saw it twice! I'll say it's my favourite movie of the summer. I've seen a bunch of movies this summer/spring so far... let's fill up this entry with a recap of what I saw and some ratings. I'll try to be spoiler-free but if you're really cautious you may want to skip the following few paragraphs.

Kung Fu Panda - 9.4/10 - I love this movie. Good mix of action and comedy, and the whole art direction thing was great. My favourite scene was Tai Long's escape, but for some reason a very memorable short scene, to me, was when Master Shifu closed his eyes, and when he opened them, Tai Long was standing in front of him and says "I've come home, Master." For some reason, that felt... really cinematic to me. Use of jokes were good, rather than bad... not sure if I'm a fan of Jack Black, but the movie is great regardless.

Iron Man - 9.1/10 - Sweet movie. Prior to this, I didn't care much for Iron Man, but I was still interested to see the movie. Robert Downey Jr. made the whole movie awesome. I highly recommend this (and Kung Fu Panda).

Speed Racer - 8.8/10 - Not sure what I expected when I sat down, but I was rather surprised. I saw it with Isaque, who's a major F-Zero fan, so watching it was that much more enjoyable. That said, it's a niche movie, not for everyone. If you like racing, fighting while racing, pretty colours, and a bit of Christina Ricci and that other guy... then sure. Oh yeah, to answer the question I posed a month ago - when we sat down, 14 minutes prior to the movie, there were 2 people in the theater - Isaque and I. But in the end, two mother/son pairs and another pair and another group of 3 came, for a total of 11. (Also, first time we saw Kung Fu Panda, was on Thursday the 12th, 6 days after release, 9:05pm, AMC, and there were 21 people in total).

Forbidden Kingdom - 7.9/10 - Good family fun, Jackie Chan and Jet Li and some hot witch chick, with pretty colours and overall a good experience.

Wanted - 7.7 - Saw it opening day... I have mixed feelings about it. Some good action, some odd story, some odd scenes... Angelina Jolie's not bad... overall it was an okay movie. I guess I liked it enough to give it 7.7 though.

Indiana Jones - 7.4 - Not a bad movie, but overall a very silly movie and not totally epic, thus a mediocre score. I enjoyed the movie, but it felt a bit lackluster.

I have yet to see Wall-E or Hancock, but I'm planning to. Also, I saw a few movies on dvd or tv, some old, some new, I'll just briefly list them for some reason...

Red Eye - 7.5 - saw it with Alan at my house, it was enjoyable. Ending was very WesCraven-like, made the movie a bit worse but overall it was a good time.

Jumper - 7.3 - Not as bad as people say it is! Then again, I was expecting bad, and it wasn't horrible, so that's good. Plot was meh, but effects and idea were okay.

Dreamcatcher - 6.8 - Saw it at Isaque's house with his brother... mixed feelings, but I think it was oookay.

Next - 6.4 (starring Nicholas Cage) - ehhhh... some great ideas, bad story, some great execution and some horrible execution. The part when he does the scene with Jessica Biel over and over again, that was neat; when he split himself up into lots of copies, that was neat; and when he tanked all those bullets at the end, that was also neat. I think the ending was pretty neat too, some might disagree.

The Onion - 5.6 - The Onion Movie, based on the newspaper. Comprised of mostly 3 minute to 10 minute sketches, there's something in here for everyone, and a lot of stuff for not-everyone - so overall pretty offensive, and some jokes fall flat. I do like the ongoing sketches with Melissa Cherry, the 'too-sexy' pop star singer, and Steven Seagal as the Cockpuncher. But overall, movie had too many negatives.

Surf Ninjas - 4.9 - Ew! I can't believe Mai and Jon paid money to watch this, and got me to watch the whole thing.

Decoys 2: Second Seduction - 4.4 - Lastly (for now), there's this movie. I saw it at Blockbuster for $6.99 and I dared myself to get this movie, so my sister and I watched it. From the back of the box: "Those sex-crazed alien hotties are back... ...thriller, in which aliens disguised as gorgeous class mates in an effort to save their species from extinction. These intergalactic babes are... ... ..." Yeah, it's that bad. Would be a "better" movie if there were more hot naked chicks, but even though there were some, it can't save this movie from being horrible.

Next on the agenda...

Glasses! I got new glasses. A bit of improvement in vision, but the most fun part are the transition lenses (the ones that get darker when you're outside on a bright day). WHeee!! Right now, it's such a novelty that I'm enjoying it so much. Sometimes I just wanna go outside for 10 minutes just to see them change, haha. Good thing too, cuz I think I'll be spending a lot of time outside over the next few weeks, since...

I'm going to Hawaii tomorrow :)

My family and I are taking a family vacation to Hawaii. Our flight's tomorrow at around noon, and we're going for a week and a bit, and then some time in LA. Should be fun! Can't wait. Not sure what I'll do there... surf? scuba? snorkel? jetski? airglidesomething? Not sure, but it'll be a good vacation. Too bad I'll still have to do some work over there, but oh well. I'll take plenty of pictures and I'll still be connected to the internet every once in a while.

Anyway, I should be heading to bed now, good night!
