Still Alive
Yep, still alive. I think I somehow developed a Call of Duty 4 addiction over the weekend... well, no, not really. Or yes? Or not. Well, at the start of the long holiday I was at level 29 or 32 or something, and my buddies (I primarily play with Dan and Paolo from work) were at level 41-42. First of all, my dad's out of town on business, and my mom... well, she's using the downstairs tv all the time, so I moved my xbox upstairs to my parents' room.
Less parents to bug me around? Check.
No work the next day (and the next, and the next)? Check.
Thus, no reason to wake up early or go to sleep early? Check.
Access to TV just before going to bed? Check.
Having friends that are higher level than me? Check.
Wow. All these things add up for a recipe of constant Call of Duty. On Saturday Alan and David came over to draft, and the other day I started playing Portal (more on that later), so I *had* a few other things to do... but a lot of the time, especially in the late evenings (up to 3, 4, or 5 am)... well, that's Call of Duty time. So over the weekend I grew an addiction to call of duty, partially because there was no real reason to not have the addiction, if that makes sense.
Ambrose took it back on Monday, and Monday night, I had 9 friends online and 4 of them were playing Call of Duty :( so I missed out on that, but oh well. I ordered it, and there were some messy problems with the post office and stuff, so for the past few days, I borrowed Jon's copy of Call of Duty. Does that make me crazy? A little bit. But this morning I went in and got my own copy so all is well and done.
Anyway, I don't think I'm addicted anymore. I've surpassed the level of my buddies (they're still 42-43, I'm 45 now), and I've surpassed their playtime by a little bit too. I'm still leveling some guns, but I think for the most part, the game would be fun if we play together, so I'll try not to play without them too often.
Portal / Portal
On Friday I borrowed Orange Box from Dan, since everyone's been saying that it's so good and that Portal is a 'must-play' game. So I borrowed it, and so far I've only played Portal, and this morning I got Duy to start playing Portal. Will Duy come home today and be like "me wanne portal, me wanne portal" or will he just get back onto WOW? Time will tell, time will tell.
Anyway... yes... Portal is great. But for some reason... it's lacking something. Like, when I found out about that neko cursor10 game, I was so WOW like, and I would recommend you all to try it out. With Portal... I still recommend it, it is fun and it's a good way of thinking about things. But if you play the game and you're like "meh", I would understand it too. Overall though, it's a good game. The graphics are okay, but the art style and the atmosphere is good. You are a test-subject in a science-ish place, so the walls are all white and grey and there's a computer talking at you as if you're a test subject since that's what you are... I like it.
Have you seen Portal? If you haven't, and you are a puzzle-liking person, I would recommend it. Alan and I were playing it a bit more on Saturday, and we both thought some of the puzzles are well done too. Anyway, so the other day I beat it, and I unlocked a bunch of harder puzzles, as well as "developer's commentary", which lets you play through the game again, but this time there are signs around that start audio dialogues from the developers. They state why the made this level the way it is, and some programming challenges they had while making the game. It's pretty interesting if you're into that sort of stuff.
Anyway, I'm borrowing the game, probably not for long-term but still for a while, if you come over you can probably play it. Also, I've fallen in love with the song at the ending credits, "Still Alive". I first heard the song when the creator of VGCats made a flash version of the song, but at the time I thought it sounded cute but I didn't care much for it. Now that I've played the game though, I'm more familiar with the voice and... yes, I like it a lot now. heh.
Endless Setlist
My Rockband Party is this Saturday! First, I haven't had a party in a while so I just craved a party, and secondly... it's Rockband. Should be fun! Come!
