December 31st post

Alright, so it's new years eve tonight! Also, haven't posted in a while. So... what kind of update should I do? Year in Review? Movie/Game/etc of the Year Awards? Resolutions? Something more recent, about things I got on Boxing Day? I don't know... well, I'm starting to write this post around noon on December 31st, so it's rather sorta spontaneous. I don't think I'll do a Year in Review, but maybe I'll touch up on it. Yeah, maybe I'll just touch up on a few of these points, as well as a regular run-of-the-mill update.

Year in Review - Highlights

Let's see... what was most memorable or different in 2007? I joined Facebook in February! heehee. At first I was going to skip all of this myspace, facebook "fad", but then Alfie invited me to his birthday event on Facebook, and then I saw a bunch of people I haven't seen in forever (from Highschool), so I joined Facebook, added hundred's of old highschool and pre-highschool friends on the first day, and like, wow, that was pretty cool.

During the first few months of 2007, I've done more social things (clubs, bars, etc) than I have during all of 2006 and the rest of 2007. Well, that might be stretching it a bit, but it's not a totally radical comparison. Unfortunately the social trend didn't last too long. And, while the first time I was drunk was in 2005, the alcohol consumption did increase in 2007, as I got more comfortable with it. Also, I was introduced to my favourites like Polar Bears and Crispy Crunches in 2007.

First time to a strip club!

I got my G2 in March, so I've been driving more, of course, yet I still don't know where everything is, haha.

I went out on a date! I think this was 2007, or maybe it was 2006, aww... at least, it was a date, unofficially, or that's what some people are calling it.

Was it this year where Duy had a 10-day Birthday party? It might've been! And this year also, my parents and a bunch of people went to Italy for a conference, so we also had a week all by ourselves at home. Sure, could've taken more advantage of the situation, but it was still fun.

Sister got a cat. yay. Rabbit died. aww.

China Trip! Miami Cruise! Both great vacations in the summer. Also, relatives and guy from Germany coming here.

Canadian dollar at par and surpassing the US dollar. Great time to buy things!

Anyway, I probably missed a few things, but that's what I can remember off the top of my head.

New Years Resolutions:

1. Keep all my new years resolutions.

Multiplayer Videogame of the Year (not including Smash, Smash, and WOW, just in case)

Well, if we're talking only about Multiplayer... "cliche alert!" - Halo 3. It's hard to argue the tremendous fun when you put 10 people in the same room and having them all fight it out, whether it'd be slayer, team slayer, or of course, the very popular Zombie Infection mode. This may yet be another highlight of the year - the high number of hours we've spent playing Zombie: Infection, including Alpha Zombie, Alpha ZOMG, and Glass Tank Zombie. Speaking of which:

random random
11. _ N F _ _ _ _ _ ! _ _ _ / _ _ m _ _ E ! _ _ s _ / m _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ I N G ! = INFECTED! NEW ZOMBIE! LAST MAN STANDING!

Board Game of the Year: Balderdash

Wow. Balderdash. The game where William G. Morgan is a "Scottish Acrobat accredited with the discovery of the Polio Vaccine in Eastern Norway", or where A.M.A. stands for "Artificial Manogromy Academy". It's so awesome. We recently went shopping and picked it up on sale for $10-15, and we first played it about a week ago, and we've been playing it very often lately. People come over (Jia, Ambrose, some other Andrew my sister knows) and we all play it together, Vinh, parents too. It's soo great.

Balderdash has been out for many years now, but we've only started playing it last week, and I'll give it Board Game of the Year (not that there were many other contenders, but whatever). Like pictionary but even more accessible, Balderdash will be a staple in boardgaming for years to come.

Anyways, now onto the regular run-of-the-mill updates. First, the usual Youtube updates:

Crayon Physics Deluxe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsTqspnvAaI

Whooo, this artistic game looks spiffy. I downloaded the 'prequel' to it (the information is on the youtube page), and it's pretty cool; not nearly as cool as this game will be, but I'm pretty amazed. Although, if you look at 'similar' videos, then it starts looking less unique, but cool nonetheless.

Rockman 3 - Miku Hatsune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwzF_xGrjUA

I must admit, at first I thought this was cooler than it actually is. At first, I thought someone was playing megaman, and it was muted and there were a few Japanese voice actors/people around the guy playing, and a few would sing the background music, and the others do the sound effects as it happens in real-time.

Then I thought that maybe some girl sang the background music, and a few people did each of the sound effects, and then everything was edited together in a movie-editing program, so that each time a bullet was fired, the appropriate sound effect would play.

Then, Jia told me what's really happening... there's this program that basically just converts sound into these voices, which is pretty cool, but not as cool as the other 2 scenarios I presented. Anyway, I downloaded the program and am trying to use it now, with little success. But, still cool. And sounds fun.

New Games

I was thinking of listing everything I bought during boxing day (and week, and christmas break), but why? Anyway, Christmas holidays were pretty good. Didn't do anything this year (last year was Snowboarding). Went to AVP2 on Christmas Day, meh. Went to Jia's house for Christmas dinner, good stuff. Boxing day shopping was fun, went out with Jia and Ambrose to help Jia buy computer parts, picked up a bunch of things on the way. For now we'll just talk about a few games, so next time you come over, you'll have more options on what to play, heh.

Unplayed games:
Xbox360: Rumble Roses XX, Stranglehold, Moto GP'07; PS3: Uncharted; Wii: Geometry Wars Galaxies, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2; Boardgames: Quip it DVD Game, MadGab DVD Game

Played Games:

Wii: Link's Crossbow Training - it's a 1 player ga... wait, I think it's two player, but we only have 1 crossbow, but I guess you can use a wiimote and nunchuk for player 2. Not bad, nice little distraction of a game.

Board: Tribond board game - What's common between chestnuts, marshmallows, and comedians? They all get roasted! What's common between pictures, guns, and blood? They are things you draw! What's commong between avadvnadlvj, b8egj234o, and a932jklj? They're all Indian counties! Huh? Anyway, that's the game, but the major problem is that most of the bonds are either too easy, or too difficult. Can't say that this game will last too long. It'll probably end up like Trivial Pursuit, in that kind of level.

Bookworm Adventures PC Game: It was on sale, so I bought it, and whee, it's so enjoyable! And whenever we play it, a crowd forms around the computer, because it just draws that much attention, it's so fun. Only problem I have with it is at end-game, since you can't go back and play more levels - you have all this experience and all this stuff and there's not much you can do with it. But the journey is a lot of fun. You'll probably be drawn toward the computer too.

Wii Game: Big Brain Academy - we're playing more wii multiplayer games lately, and Big Brain Academy is pretty good. It's not easy, which is good, and... yeah, it's fun.

Wii Game: Smarty Pants - also a fun trivia game! If my sister's around, she'll probably want to play this with you.

Xbox 360: Burnout Revenge - sadly, I bought this for $15, and the disc was defective, so I returned to Rogers Video, and spent the money +$3 (to make $18) to buy a used copy of 24: Season 5. $18 for 24 episodes! Sweet deal ($55 new).

::edit, technically 3:45pm::
- Xbox 360: Rock Band. We left work shortly after 2:00, but Mai had to do some stuff at Square One, so we wander into EB, and we asked about the rockband bundle, and they just happened to receive a new shipment today. So we got it. Word on the street was that non pre-order people wouldn't get it until February, so I think we were somewhat fortunate.

The bundle comes with 1 guitar, 1 mic, and the drumset, and so far we've used the drumset and guitar (vinh on guitar, me on drumset), and so far so good! No real complaints yet, just getting used to the instruments. Gotta get a second guitar and unlock a bunch of songs. Already bought "War Pigs", haha. Vinh's going through expert and I'm going through medium. Fun stuff!

Anyway, that's the end of this update! It's about 1:45 now, in a bit I will go back home with my sister, since there's not much to work on today. I'll go home, spend some more time with Jia (since he's been here since the 25th), and if I don't hear from you again, have a Happy New Year!
