Wen will you see this blog?
What a horrible subject line. Anyway, so as I was writing Alan's entry, I was talking to Wen online, and the subject about him came up, so now I'm doing it too. (half of this was written last Tuesday, some of it is written this week)
Let's start with... I like talking to Wen online. I turn on MSN in the morning, and there might be Ambrose, Jia, Isaque, Ray... but I don't really talk to them much. I talk to Jia and Hawk about weekend plans, or anime happenings and things like that. On Fridays I message Ambrose to see his weekend plans, and sometimes he messages me and mentions the new Smash bros. update. Nowadays, when I wake up, I always first check the new Smash bros. update in case Ambrose messages me, and then we can discuss it.
Every now and then Alan comes online, and I don't have much to say to him except that I try to acquire him for the weekend, so that I may see him in person. Ever since Aan started working, he's a busy person, so his MSN time is pretty minimal.
But mostly, I enjoy talking to Wen, about anything. From this, you can already see that I think Wen is an interesting person, with more to talk about than just games. Part of it might be that he's far away and I don't see him every weekend, but really, he's an interesting person to talk to.
Wen is trickier than Alan... as I said, Alan goes with the flow, so talking with him is pretty straight forward. But it's a bit trickier with Wen... sometimes Wen would ask, "how was the movie?" And me, in a sorta unresponsive mood, I might, like Alan, say "It was interesting". If I was talking to Alan, the conversation would end there, but not with Wen. Wen would say "in what way was it interesting?" And then I become speechless. I'm not sure what to say then... I have to think about it and come up with an answer. So now when I talk with Wen, my answers are a bit more thought out, which sounds like more work, but it's also nice to have that level of conversation.
Wen is an interesting person, with lots of interests, open to new things, in a very good environment that lets him try new things and he has time to do it. But I digress.
A few weeks ago I randomly messaged Wen and asked him about Bathroom etiquette, specifically, when sitting on the toilet, and then we had a short conversation about that. I don't think I would've messaged anyone else in our circle of friends about that... well, maybe Hawk, Hawk has some good ideas too, heh. But that's the kind of conversation we can have, if we wanted to. Some random things here and there.
Wen and I have similar interests, but at the same time, different interests... lately, I think we've been less able to talk each other about games. It used to be that we have about even interests in games, tv shows, and outside stuff, but I think Wen has shifted a little bit away from games, ever since he got the PS3 and two unfullfilling games :P So sometimes I would start off a conversation with gaming news, and he'd just say "cool", but he used to talk more about games.
Anyway, that's enough about MSN for now. So Wen... he's... interesting. Haha. You can tell a bit from his blog. He writes about games, about a girl in his life, about photography, about trips, about experiences and feelings, and more. He has engineering friends, he drinks every now and then and regrets it every now and then, he likes movies, and more. So, he's pretty well rounded, yet not too different from the rest of us, yet.
Ack, I'm still wandering around the topic... so those are his interests, but I guess we're getting closer to what I'm writing about........... so Wen... he also likes sharing interests. Wen has been a pretty good source for interesting material in our group... Firefly, Lost, Battlestar Galactica... everyone trusts him to bring interesting shows or movies, that are interesting story-wise, artistically, or a bit of both. He wouldn't usually recommend something overly crazy (Bobobo) or overly gruesome, except for some cases (I'll always mention Kill Bill, cuz I think Wen really likes it and I know David really disliked it (the first one at least) ). Wen likes it because of its cool nature - it's Quentin Tarantino, who uses references from martial arts movies from the past and weird cinematic direction.
(aside - around this time I'm asking Wen, Duy, Hawk, Ray and Eric about this word which I'm forgetting... turns out it might've been Nostalgia, or the adjective version, Nostalgic - let's try it)
... it's Quentin Tarantino, who brings back nostalgia from old martial arts movies... sounds close. Ack, my goal for the rest of the day is to figure out what this word was. Anyway, that's why Wen likes the movie.
Is Wen a follower or a leader? Well, that's not an easy question to answer - I haven't really seen him lead much, but I'm not sure I would classify him as a follower. Is he taking charge of his life? Well, he does live by himself now, in Waterloo, far away from most of the rest of us, so he does have a set of responsibilities, but nothing too out of the ordinary. I'm sure I could live by myself too.
He's in grad school now, which is a path he chose - beyond that though, he goes to classes regularly and leads a pretty regular life. So the leader/follower question is actually kinda weird to define... who in our group is a leader? Well, I always had the chance to host our weekend gatherings, and sometimes something needs to be done, so as a host I take the leadership role and tell people what to do... so is a leader someone who yells out commands? I don't know. Maybe it's easier to define follower and non-follower. A non-follower are those that are more self-sufficient and taking charge of their life (career, health, etc). I think Ambrose and Ray are non-followers, but I digress, let's talk about Wen.
Well, Wen does live by himself, which is a big part of being a non-follower, and he is self-sufficient with money and health and career choices. I think he's enjoying his time right now, yet still keeps his responsibilities as a student. As a student, his life is a bit more restricted now; I mean, he can still go to parties and play games and stuff, but he has a responsibility to school. On the other hand, I myself have a partial responsibility to work, but deep in my mind I know I'm not using my time to the best of my ability, so I am less restricted than Wen; in other words, if Wen and I are doing the same things, that would be bad for me because I am currently less restricted to that.... ack....... talking about Wen is hard, it seems like we're always comparing Wen with other people... which kinda makes sense... but then we trail off and talk about other people too.... I'll have to talk about myself again one day.
Man, this topic is getting long. There's still a lot to write about, but maybe I'll answer them... later....
Is Wen stubborn? Hmm... is he considerate? hmm...
So as Wen asked - does Wen care about what other people think about Wen?
These and much more - will be answered... maybe... eventually... maybe.... sentence over, topic getting too long and out of hand, will think of it more later. Or, let user comments pour in first and see where it goes from there...Labels: when
