Duy in the past, Wen in the present, and Alan in the future
So on Friday, I asked Wen (over msn) what he was up to, and afterwards he asked me, what I was up to, and I answered that I recently uploaded a WinMagic video to the website. And I asked him, "do you want to see it?" And he said "not really", and then at first... for some reason... I felt sad. It's like I offered something and someone said no. I didn't make the video, and... I don't really care if anyone sees it, but I did feel a little something something when Wen refused my offer.
I think part of it was because in the morning, I was talking to my new friend Helen, and she asked me, "so what do you do? What do your parents do?" and it ended up as me showing her the video, and she was like "cool, awesome", so it felt... good? It's like, she was interested in what we do (disk encryption, sorta) and she didn't know much about it so I told her, if she wants to know more about what we do, watch this video, so she did, and she responded that our company does something interesting and neat. So I said "yeah, thanks", which probably meant I was saying thanks on my parents behalf...
So maybe... okay, I'm thinking that, for example, Alan, he doesn't know much about disk encryption. He knows I work for WinMagic and we make "encryption software", which "encrypts laptops" and stuff... I think if he asked me "how's work" and I was able to somehow slide this video into the conversation, Alan would genuinely want to watch this video to get a greater understanding of what it is my parents do, and since I'm part of the company, it kinda, very slightly, ties into "my interests", and I suddenly become happy if Alan watched the video. I also assume Ray (the investive money business person) would like to watch it too.
So maybe when Wen said no, it felt like he wasn't interested to learn more about what my parents do, which is of somewhat interest to me, so... that might be why I felt a bit sad. But, that's over with now, and I'm not sad anymore.
Anyway, so I guess the Ray-post turned out pretty well. Alan volunteered to be the next victim in this stream of posts, and I will post his analysis tomorrow or Wednesday. It's already Monday night... I've been kinda busy at work today... new business deal has the whole office a little bit busy, especially the sales and marketing team... actually, all teams. But whatever.
On the weekend Alan, Ambrose, and Jia came over and we went to Red Lobster for Vinh's birthday. But what I really wanted to say is that I think I figured out the thing with Vinh and Duy. Vinh's case is pretty simple - I see him not eating all these different foods, so I think he's less... cultured, than the rest of us. There's so much beauty and art (for lack of a better word) that he's missing out by limiting his palette to just chicken fingers.
But with Duy, it's a bit different - he's changed from the past. Back then, he would be the first to go through Wind Waker or Ocarina of Time or whatever. He'd finish the game before I started it, or before I finished any significant amount of the game. I haven't really played Majora's Mask but it's one of Duy's favourites. He did Metroid Prime 2 and I didn't even finish it yet.
But now... after world of warcraft... it's like he's a changed person. He's about 3 hours through Twilight Princess, 30 minutes through Metroid Prime, and about zero minutes in most other games. I guess I'm just saying I miss the old Duy. He just spends all his time in front of the computer, playing World of Warcraft. The rest of the few sentences would've been pretty typical things about WOW and what you guys see from Duy... so... I really dislike this.
And... that's it. Update about Alan tomorrow.
