Black Snakes on a Runaway Twain!

Haven’t blogged for a while… annyyywwwaayyyyy… so let’s see… Friday to Sunday, went to SongViet, the Vietnamese camp for VSA Students; myself, Duy, Raphaela and Gordian, and Jan, the new visitor from Germany. We all went under “Waterloo”, so Waterloo had the biggest group this time, yay. I have about 120 pictures up on Facebook now.

I got sick during the trip, so that sucked, so I was recovering on Monday… apparently I was still sick on Tuesday, so I didn’t go to work. Tuesday night, Raphaela and Gordian were sad to leave us, but alas, they had to go back home, look for a flat in London, and then go to school there come September. On Wednesday, I woke up at 10am, and everyone went to work already, so I stayed home all day. On Thursday I exercised, so I missed my ride to work so I stayed home again, and cleaned much of the house.

Also, on Wednesday we decided to look for old home videos, like our famous “Jurassic Park” video and the “Drunk Dad” video. We found some, and I’ll probably try to record them onto my computer, bwahahaha. Soon there will be a bunch of embarrassing videos from our past, from 7-15 years ago, including people at parties, people just coming over for fun, a class play from grade 6, and some interesting home movies. BWAHAHAHA…

Now it’s Friday and I’m back at work, which explains why I’m blogging, heh. Eventually I’ll work on some Miami-montage-video, and maybe a Summer-recollection video or flash movie, since this has been one exciting summer.

Black Snake Moan

I don’t usually rent movies for myself, but for some reason I had the urge to watch Black Snake Moan. I forget how I heard about the movie – probably saw a picture, clicked on it, read a bit about it, and then I was intrigued. It sounded like a Film Festival movie that the rest of my family wouldn’t be interested in watching, so I rented it and watched it.

Black Snake Moan stars Samuel L. Jackson as an old guy, who comes across a young white girl left for dead on the side of the road, played by Christina Ricci. She’s really hot in this movie :) And she acts well too. Christina Ricci has some sex-craved disorder where she craves sex all the time, and Jackson decides it’s his mission to change her from her deviant ways.

I think the movie was pretty good. The performances were good, and Christina Ricci looooks really good throughout most of the movie, heehee. Budgetwise, it feels like it fits the movie, even if it didn’t have a huge budget. I think it ended okay, could’ve been better but that’s okkkay. I recommend it, if you like the FilmFestival type movies, or you just want to see Christina Ricci being hot. Justin Timberlake’s in the movie too if you swing that way. There’s some nudity and sex, and a lot of swearing, uses of the F* word and the N* word, but I don’t really think that bothers anyone here too much.

Saw a few minutes of A Scanner Darkly, animation style is awesome. I think they had that in another movie, was it Waking Life? Anyway, what they do, I think, is they film real actors, and then they use some sort of computer filter to make it look all animated and cel-shaded. It looks really good, albeit somewhat messy and trippy. Anyway, I taped it so I’ll watch the rest later, but the style looks really neat.

Nobody commented on the Miami Cruise thing yet - which is okay, I suppose, but take a look if you haven’t. I’ll facebook pictures eventually. Speaking of which, people have always recommended to me that I make a foodbook, a book with only pictures of food, since I take pictures of food so often. So now I’m working on a collection of food pictures I’ve taken here and there, from the ordinary home-made sandwich, to the regular bigmac combo, to the Swiss Chalet meal, to the fancy Summerlicious outings. Look forward to that on Facebook :P

Didn’t do Summerlicious nor Ribfest this year, and probably won’t do TIFF either, it’s a lot of hassle for a couple of high-priced artsy movies. If someone else wants to take over and arrange that (although we’re a bit late), I’ll tag along if someone buys tickets and chooses movies. On another note, I don’t care much for Rush Hour 3, neither as a first-day nor any-day viewing, but if someone really wants to go then maybe I’ll tag along.

Umm… I think that’s all for now. Who else is doing what for the rest of the summer?
