Pre-Cruise Update

Okay, it’s Friday the 6th, and tomorrow we’re flying to Miami for our 10-day cruise thing. I’m still not totally sure of the details, but I think we’re flying to Miami, getting onto a cruise that will bring us to 3 Caribbean islands over the course of 8 days, and then we’re going back to Miami and staying there for 2 days and then heading home. 12 of us are going; our family, uncle, uncle’s wife, aunt, grandmother, and then a cousin from Montreal and John. Should be fun!

So, I figured I should blog a little something something before I go. So in point form:

China page hasn’t been updated since Shanghai; Guilin and Hong Kong still need to be finished, but I haven’t done that yet.

Summerlicious… yes… okay, so I think a lot of us want to go, but we haven’t done any planning / choosing / discussion stuff. The festival runs until the 22nd, so we’ll be back on the 17th or 18th. Wen’s coming into town on the last weekend of the festival, so we should have an outing on Saturday the 21st. At this rate, we’ll gather around on the 18th or 19th, choose a restaurant that’s still has free slots, and we’ll go there.

Toronto International Film Festival has a website up, but it’s sorta empty now – has important dates, but almost no film schedules yet, so we don’t have to think about it just yet.

Spiderman 3 – 6.8/10; Shrek 3 – 6.5/10; Pirates 3 – 7.3/10; Ocean’s 13 – 7.3/10; Fantastic Four 2 – 6.5/10.
This sequelicious summer had a few disappointments, with a bunch of trilogies ending with kinda low scores. But as we reach the middle of summer, we get two awesome gems: Live Free or Die Hard (8.1/10) and Transformers (8.3/10). I saw both on opening day, and they were both awesome, and IMDB agrees. I highly recommend these action movies.

That said, most of us have seen Transformers, but I also recommend Die Hard, even if you haven’t seen other Die Hard movies, but at least know that this Bruce Willis guy is John Mclane and he’s awesome. Ray, Alan, and Wen all have not seen Die Hard, so if you three can all go at the same time, that would be pretty cool. I’d watch it again, if we went to AMC and I can pay $7 for it :)

I would blog more about the movies, about different things I liked in Die Hard and Transformers, my favourite parts, nice references, etc, but I don’t want to beefen up this blog post too much more than necessary. Maybe when I come back, or when more people have seen DH/TF.

Here are a few of my recent favourite youtube videos. The first is a link I got from David’s blog, which he got from another blog, featuring some deaf Chinese performers. It’s really beautiful, and somewhat freaky, and quite possibly somewhat sexy.

The other video is something Jeff Shimano introduced me to – it’s a guy who doesn’t know how to play drums or piano, but using some video editing skills… well, it just looks pretty cool. Check the 2nd link for more of him, and check out the related/replies if you want to see more things like that. I think I’ll make one of these when I have more time.

Of the 103 comic books I bought a few weeks ago, I think I’ve read about 20 so far, and so far, so good. Most that I’ve read were pretty good, some were okay, and a couple were actually pretty amazing – one of them (PARA) was sorta like a graphic novel. It was a great deal!

I also bought DDR back then, and I haven’t had as much time to play it as I would’ve liked to, but I’m still getting a bit better now and then. As for C&C 3, sometimes it feels like a chore to play… everytime I play, I only play for about 1 mission, and that’s enough for the day. I do like the cutscenes though with the celebrity actors though.

You know when sometimes something bugs you so much that the best thing to do is to just do it? Well, so I purchased Forza 2, and I’m enjoying it a lot. I know I bought Forza 1 but didn’t get near to completion, but I think I’m having a lot more fun with Forza 2. The driving is fun, the graphics are great, what’s not to like?

Umm… I guess I could blog forever and ever, about PS3, TOTA, Paper Mario, Wii stuff, etc. etc, but I think that’s enough for now. So anyway, Wen’s coming to visit on the weekend of the 20th-22nd, so we should have a party. Anyway, when I get home, maybe I’ll add a few more pictures or video links, but for now, that’s that.
