Eventful Firsts

Well, that has been a hectic week. So it’s been well over a week since I posted. Let’s just say I’ve been busy. As you all know, my cousins from Germany are here (for the rest of the time, let’s assume Cousin’s husband is also a cousin), and we’ve been going out a lot and having lots of fun.

I’ll have to say, this summer has been pretty eventful, with a lot of learning, discovering, exploring, and experiencing new experiences. Starting in May/June, there was the China trip, our first trip without our parents, and that was great. Visited a few different cities in China, explored their culture, and spent everyday doing new events and visiting new places.

I consider myself… well, so far in life, I wouldn’t say I’m a late-bloomer, since I’m not really sure what that entails… I’ll just say instead of driving at 16, drinking at 18, etc., I started driving much later, first got drunk when I was 24 or 25, and so on. So anyway, after the China trip was another first: strip club. Woohoo!

Lachlan had a bachelor party, and after some drinking at the Biermarkt, we went to the Brass Rail in Toronto. That was my first strip club experience, and first lap dance too. Heehee – It was enjoyable. So that’s another first for me this summer. I never mentioned this to anyone before, so our little secret, k? hehe.

After that, went on the cruise – such awesomeness. I’ve had relaxing vacations before (like in Cancun), but this was better. So that’s my first cruise. Also tried my first Mojito. In other news, the cruise website is just about done, but I’ll link to it later so it doesn’t steal anything away from this entry. The website was easy to create because I noticed many of the pictures didn’t need captions – they just spoke for themselves.

So the cousins came to visit from Germany; a few of them are leaving on Sunday, some others are staying for another week or so, so I might still be busy having lots of fun. So over the past week, a couple of other firsts: First time to Wonderland, and also first time on a rollercoaster. It was a surprising experience – didn’t think it would be too fun, but it IS fun! Sure, waiting in line for 20-65 minutes for a 2-3 minute ride isn’t usually worth it, but for a first-timer, it was a good day. What a rush!

And the other day, First time Paintballing. We went to the indoor place next to the 401 Indy, it was alright. At first it wasn’t so fun, one of the girls in our party just stopped playing after a few rounds, but after a while it got more fun as we had to face the teams more. I still can’t aim and whatever, but the teamworkness and whatever is fun.

If you want to count other interesting happenings, there’s TOJAM, the game-programming event, and then there’s Alice, I guess my first “date”, although I haven’t seen her in a while…

And wow, the number of movies I’ve seen this summer in theatres, compared to most other summers… usually I’d see 1-3 movies, this summer though I think I’ve seen 6, and many on opening day. It’s not too unique, but I thought it was worth a quick mention.

Didn’t do summerlicious though, partly because of the hassle, but mainly because the food on the cruise was amazing enough that I didn’t need more fine dining for the rest of the month. And at this rate, probably won’t do Toronto Film Festival either, mostly because of the hassle.

The summer’s not over yet! Apparently I was supposed to go to a BBQ tomorrow with a bunch of old friends from university, but I completely forgot about it so I probably won’t go. But tomorrow (well, tonight) is my sister’s birthday celebration at Dave&Buster’s, should be fun. Planning to drink, should get interesting. Hopefully it will?

And next weekend is Song Viet, the annual Vietnamese camping weekend. I do like my Vietnamese MacMaster girls, so I sure hope I’ll enjoy it.

Anyway, back to stuff stuff. Saw the Simpsons movie today – we had a party, 13 people big; 4 Nguyen-huu kids, 4 German cousins, Ricky, Jia, Ambrose, Ray, and Jon. It was pretty good – fully enjoyable, although as usual, the trailer/teasers/commercials spoil a lot. But I guess the movie is still epic enough, and I recommend the movie.

Guitar Hero: 80’s edition came out this week, and Vinh’s almost done expert now. It’s $60 for 30 songs, so it’s like an expansion but with the price of a full game. At $2 per song, it’s okay, if the songs were good/fun-to-play/varietyful. Are they? They’re okay, not bad, not great. For most songs, Vinh 5-starred them on his first try, and now only about 4 songs aren’t 5-starred, no deaths, except now. The last song is HARD – it’s just 4 minutes long, but features solos that are comparable to Jordan, Hangar 18, Jessica, and so on.

The other day Wen asked me if I would upgrade some of my dvd collection to blu-ray or HD DVD, when the technology becomes more acceptable, and I said no. But now I did update one thing, and it’s another first: First game we bought for our PS3. And that game is Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

NG-S is pretty much NG-B (Black) for Xbox, but updated with new HD graphics and a few new features, like new weapons, some new levels, and the ability to play as Rachel. So far so good – it‘s a very pretty game, and the new features and levels are fun to play with.

So, that’s it. As I said, “tonight” we’re going to Mai’s celebration at D&B (not Duy&Bao’s), and next weekend we’re going to Song Viet. Also, “300” comes out to DVD on Tuesday, gonna get that for sure. I’ll post the Cruise website link next time.
