A Different kind of gaming related post

Sorry for the late update... well, I was planning to post this earlier, but Jia came over on Friday and left Monday night, so I've really hadn't had time to blog. We even brought Jia to work on Monday, so instead of blogging I decided to program more games in Flash. Anyway, Jia's gone now, so I can freely blog, yay, haha.

First things first... screw that, let's be unconventional. First things third!

So over the past few weeks, I've been working on some flash games. I've been making them for fun, and also to add things to my portfolio, or to at least learn how to make the games, or try out new mechanics or ways of doing things. Some of the games are just concepts and incomplete, some are pretty complete, and some are pretty much fully completed. Anyway, for each game, below you'll see some screenshots, a game description, and then a link to an EXE file and an html file. You can play the game in your browser with the html file, and it should load pretty quickly. The EXE is typically 900k-1100k in size, but itll be much smoother. Also, with the EXE, you can resize your window, so you can play in fullscreen. Note that if you play in fullscreen, it gets a bit choppier and slows things down, which... actually is a good thing for one of these games.

Beartato: Action WorldsGenre: Platformer

I mentioned this game on my blog already, and I think I posted it too. Anyway, this is the latest version, version 11. It's a platformer, like mario. This game is pretty complete, except there's a lack of sound/music and some graphics. I'm working with other people in this game, so I'm awaiting sprites to finish the game. That said, I'm not working on this game anymore until I get more sprites.

Firstly, this weekend I'm going with Hawk to TOJAM, the Toronto Indie Gaming Festival thing. It's a weekend long event held in Toronto, where we go there with our computers, and we spend the entire weekend programming a game from scratch. So Hawk invited me to go, and I'll be programming game idea of his, and he'll be providing graphics. It should at least be an interesting event. That said... well, I'm not home this weekend, and I can't watch Spiderman 3 this weekend, unless we go at some lame time like Friday at lunch. Maybe we'll see Spiderman sometime in the week?

Anyway, that should be interesting.

Find MiiGenre: Puzzle

One day, my sister came to my desk and said, "make FIND MII!" - and then I did. She's very impressed with the quick results. Since then, the game's gotten better. Just like FIND MII on the Wii (on Wii Play), in this game you look for characters who look the same, or have something distinguishing about them. One advantage of coding this is that I can now make my own VERY custom characters, like actual photos of people I know. It's fun. And it's hard. This game is one of my more complete games. Next version will be in a while, and it'll probably just have more characters we know.

Scorch ULTRAGenre: Action Puzzle?

One day I decided to make a scorched earth game, and also make an AI that can play the game well without too much robotic mastery. Unfortunately, I never did get to making the AI, but I made a pretty fun kind of game. The game is incomplete and has maybe 1 bug, but I decided to leave it there as it doesn't matter too much. The game is fun, and it's just fun watching things explode and particles flying in the air. Just like FindMii, the game is pretty customizable. Try different "ULTRA"s for maximum fun!

Shooter 2Genre: Shoot'em up

About 6 years ago, I started playing around with Flash, and the first game I made was a shoot'em up. It worked well enough to show how simply I can make flash games, and it made me happy. Now, I'm a better, more efficient coder, and I wanted to revisit the shoot'em up and see what I can do now. Turns out I can probably make a pretty good shoot'em up, except that I don't know what I wanted to do with it yet. So for now, this is an incomplete game. So far I have a 1-minute demo, and maybe when I figure out what I want to do with it, I'll add more to it to make a complete game. But, at least the game works much nicer than my first shoot'em up did.

The Open GameGenre: puzzle?

This is more of an experiment than a game... I was just testing out some mouse functions, and then
I made it into a game, or at least a program. It's an open game because there aren't really any rules.
Please check this game out and tell me what you think, or if I can build it into a game or something.

Anyway, that's it! Find Mii should provide you tens of minutes of fun! If you have any sprites you'd like me to add, just send them to me! If you have ideas of what to do with the shooter, let me know! If you can draw the sprites I need for Beartato Action Worlds, that'd be awesome! If you can think of an application for the Open Game, that'd be neat. And, if you like to offer new ideas for the scorch game, tell me! Anyway, that's it for now!
