300 Spartans eating breakfast, dinner, and calzones
Had a good weekend. Saw 300 with a bunch of friends on Friday, then a few of them came and stayed over – went out to breakfast/brunch on Saturday with a bunch of friends, then had some good gaming time and conversation time, then dinner. Then most of them went home, coupled stayed over, and left early the next day.
(This time, when you click on a thumbnail, you’ll see the picture, related pictures, and some accompanying text, if you want more of the story. So instead of me writing “Duy had gravy soup” on the main blog, you can click on the picture to read the story.)
300 Spartans
WOW – 300 is the “prettiest” movie I’ve seen in a long time. I definitely wasn’t expecting this. The trailers made it look cool, so I was sorta expecting cool, yet empty… sorta like Transporter 2, hah. But I didn’t read anything else about it, so really I didn’t have any expectations either way.. .but wow. It’s so amazing.
Okay, so the story, acting, characters, emotions, etc… they were okay. Nothing bad, yet nothing too amazing. But the thing that made it amazing was the ‘art’ of it all. Just like Sin City, the whole thing was shot on a green screen, so the backgrounds of everthing are digital images and video. It was amazingly pretty. Also the camera work, the slow motion parts… wow, so amazing. If I took a screenshot every minute, I’d have the most amazing set of wallpapers.
(When I get the dvd when it comes out, I might actually do that, hehe)
The movie is still an action movie loooosely based on historical events, but… wow, it’s so pretty. I really liked it. And, we saw it on IMAX, so it was even prettier. AND, half of us were stuck sitting in the 4th row, so we were really close to the screen, so we were able to see very amazing detail. (But the Spiderman 3 Trailer at the beginning… ugh. I was pretty disoriented when trying to watch it – the words were so upclose that they were hard to read. Haha.)
Green Apron Breakfast and Calzones
Everytime Wen visits and stays over, it is now tradition to have breakfast at the Green Apron, a restaurant in Streetsville that serves all day breakfast. I invited David over and treated him to breakfast. We ate around 11, so we skipped lunch. Afterwards we came back… umm, played Guitar Hero and Scrabble. CALZONES won me the game, heh.

For dinner, we went to Ben Tham, the Pho restaurant at the Chase plaza. It was pretty good. I think it was David’s first time having the Vermicilli bowl (the thing I usually get), and he really enjoyed it. I had a portion of the green thai curry… it was okay. Portion size was fine, but the curry… wasn’t creamy or thick enough. It was kinda like a soup, but it was still okay. But I’ve had better green thai curry. I also had a craving for Jackfruit, so I had a Jackfruit shake.

Later that night we relaxed, talked about old times, watched hockey, played Euchre and Bridge, and relaxed. Wen and David stayed over, had about 8 hours of sleep. Sunday morning came around, Wen left (after staying over for 40 hours), David ate a few small breakfasts, played Guitar Hero, watched Scrapped Princess (BONUS MP3), and then he too left (after staying over for 27 hours). Then I took a 2 hour nap.

Overall, it was a pretty good weekend, although I wouldn’t want this every weekend. I DO like my sleep =p Anyway, that’s my take on the weekend. Wen will probably blog about 300 and how he feels about the art, and David has blogged about some of the meals and conversations that happened during the meals.
