Appetizers: Beet Salad with Goat Cheese Shrimp Cocktail Butternut Squash Dumplings and Lamb Sausage Pear & Endive Salad Baked Lobster&Crab Soup
I’d have to give the award to the Butternut Squash Dumplings with the Lamb Sausage. I think it was the most unique appetizer and it was really good. The Beet Slad with Goat Cheese was truly great too. Honourable Mentions go to Ricky’s Chilled Pea Soup from EPIC, that was wonderful, the sip that I had. Ricky’s lemon bisque was neat too. The Shrimp cocktail was the most plain, but I didn’t expect it to be special either, so no harm.
Entrees: Seared Mahi Mahi Filet with Roma Tomato and Balsamic Essence Salmon Roulade Cornish Hen and Pumpkin Gnocchi Sweetbreads Triple Pork
Sweetbreads wins this one, because it was awesome and very unique. I think Triple pork was one of the most filling, but the spicy bread at the beginning helped. In terms of presentation, I think the Cornish Hen and the Mahi Mahi were nicely laid out. La Maquette’s meal was good, but I don’t think it wins any awards.
Desserts: Chocolate Mousse Mango Tiramisu Heart Chocolate Orange Crème Brulee Passionfruit Pot De Crème with Coconut Cookies Fresh Fruit Ice w/ Strawberries
It’s hard to choose a winner for desserts, but the EPIC Chocolate Mousse and Fred’s Fresh Fruit Ice were among the richest and thus, are my most favourite. If I had to pick a loser, it’d be the Pot De Crème. The fruit was nice, the crème was okay, but the coconut cookies didn’t blend at all.
Drinks: Cherry Lychee Mango Juice Drink that didn’t taste like Mango Pineapple/Orange Juice Earl Grey Tea Orange … pop?
EPIC wins this one for sure. FNH and La Maquette fail for this one (although they were both free – La Maquette because they were sorry it didn’t taste like Mango, and FNH by mistake I think). Tea is tea, and although it’s good, it’s still tea. And regular juice is regular juice. EPIC though… wow.
So apparently EPIC wins a lot of awards, including good presentation for the Mahi mahi, but it felt like such a failure, because of the mahi mahi size and taste and whatever. And in contrast, La Maquette got a lot of praise for being overall good, yet not being amazing in any one particular area. The meal was good, the tiramisu was great, but it didn’t stand out too much. Still good though.
All of the dinners were $35 + drink + tax + gratuity, except FNH, which was a $25 experience. That said, I might go back to FNH for a regular meal on a regular day, as prices as comparable to the ‘licious prices, with the entrees at $19.99. The Fresh fruit ice was amazing too. If I’d go back to EPIC, it’d be for the drink and dessert, haha. The sweetbreads were unique and tasty, but I don’t think I would pay full price for it.
Hey Ray (and others), post about your ‘licious awards and food choices! Anyways, looking forward to Summerlicious!
