Fred's Not Beer

*puts more entries in backlog* woohoo! Now I have a lot of entries to write that I don't want to write yet. Also, I didn't have any resolutions for 2007 or reflections for 2006 to be written out, I just thought I'd put them as things I wanted to write about, because they would seem like popular topics. Every newspaper or magazine would probably do a reflections on 2006 type of article, so maybe I'd thought I'd do one too, but... nah, not yet. And maybe I'll write about Christmas presents, although it's easier if you just come over and see them, hehe. Anyway...

Winterlicious is upon us. Early bird reservations have started, and Ray has already reserved the places the group of us wanted to go to. I was going to write this entry yesterday, but I was busy playing Zelda, downloading demos on PS3, and watching CSI Miami. Besides, anyone who wanted to go these dinners already knew about them.

But now I want to talk about my idea - as most of you know, Ricky and I saw a restaurant choice that the others didn't want, so Ricky and I will go to that restaurant one day, just us two, for lunch. We don't think we have to do early reservations, so we'll wait till Thursday or so... any of you wanna come?

That restaurant is BeerBistro. The rest of the group labeled it as an immediate-fail, with the word "Beer" and dinner being only $25 and not $35, but Ricky likes Beer, and I sorta like beer, but I'm more interested in trying quirky and different foods. So, lunch will be $15. I figure I spend $7-8 on regular lunches, so to spend $15 on a specialty lunch + app + dessert is actually pretty good.

Afterwards I went to their website, and yeah, they infuse beer into almost all the food they have, which I think could be pretty interesting. And they have over 100 beers to choose from, so if I do have beer, I'll probably have to choose something before I get there, hehe. I'm sorta excited, hehe.

But wait, there's more!

I'm not sure if Ricky got my e-mail yet, but I have an amazing and bold idea. It costs $6 to get to Toronto and $6 back, so going to Toronto for just the lunch isn't the best way to spend money. So we could do other stuff in Toronto, like shop or see something, but then I thought...

How'bout we have a second lunch? ! =D

It's such an amazing idea. Ideally, we can have the first lunch really early (for example, 11:30), and then the second lunch kinda late (for example, 2:30), and ideally the first lunch is small so by the time the 2nd lunch comes up, we won't be full anymore, or better yet, we'll be hungry again. Two lunches cost less than 1 dinner, and thus lets you sample two restaurants.

I like the idea, hehe. $15 for a 3-course meal is pretty good, so going for one lunch is okay. We just have to find other reasons to go to Toronto so we don't use $12 to just have a $15 lunch. Anyway, I looked at all the $15 lunch restaurants (I might look at $20 later), and then I've chosen 3 of them, not including Beerbistro.
One's Thai, because we like Thai - one is a Biftheque, but I chose it because it was cheap. $15 for 1/4 chicken and ribs + app + dessert is pretty good. But this is Winterlicious, and what we're after isn't cheap food; it's quirky or specialty foods, although good value is nice too. So I don't want to try the best chicken, or the best thai, or go to a sushi restaurant and try to find the best Dragon Maki. No. I want quirky or special. So my third choice is...

Fred's Not Here. I've heard of this one before too, I think, or I remember reading the name during Summerlicious. Either way, I choose this for my other lunch, if we can have two lunches that day. It has lots of choice and lots of special foods, including the infamous "waste of Kobe Beef" Burger, hehe. But the restaurant does sound tempting.

So... yeah, it's bold. But if Ricky can eat a Hot dog after an Epic dinner, I hope we can have a second lunch without being full. Additionally, the two restaurants are close to union station, so we wouldn't need subway tokens. It'd be so awesome. My mouth's watering already...
