Birthday Goal Update - Part 1 of 2
Around my birthday last year, I wrote a list of things I wanted to accomplish by my birthday this year. Most of the list were things “just for fun”, like “watch an episode of something”, rather than “get a girlfriend” and other more serious, harder goals. I have a little under 2 months left, so let’s see how I’m doing, but first:
121 || 003 || 144
MOVIE/TV RELATED:
1) Get David to watch an episode of Gankutsuou
2) Watch an episode of either the Amazing Race or Corner Gas
11) Have a Firefly party (4eps +)
12) Have a CSI party, probably when Jason gets back
13) Watch at least 15% of the anime that I own (on dvd or computer) that I haven't seen yet.
15) Watch TAFFRK
23) Watch a movie the night it opens, or buy a hot-ticket item the day of (or pre-order, and show up the day of)
25) Get addicted to a new show or song or something
31) Figure out what those people are saying in Snatch around 57:30, or translate the movie... heh.
32) Finish watching Return of the King Extended
Yes, David came over one day and we watched the first episode of Gankutsuou, and now he’s intrigued by it, but he hasn’t seen any other episode yet. No, I have not watched either The Amazing Race or Corner Gas.
I don’t think we’re interested in a Firefly or CSI party, whatever that means. On the Firefly goal though, I want David to watch… at least episode 6. He probably wants to start from the beginning, but I think before that, we should watch my very favourite episode first. Good luck Bao!
As for anime… haha, no. However, I slowed down on downloading anime, so the percentage hasn’t gone down… I did finish up some loose ends, like watching the last few episodes of Azumanga.
We actually tried to watch TAFRRK at Ambrose’s party where Rama passed out, but the dvd player wouldn’t read it. Maybe I should try it out here… we failed to watch Borat opening night, but we had a good-enough-pass for Casino Royale, so that goal’s completed.
I’m addicted to Heroes. Heroes is amazingly good. For Snatch, Ricky came over one day and we watched it with Subtitles. And no, I haven’t finished watching Lord of the Rings extended yet, so I gotta ask Wen for this…
So why did I make these goals? Well, for fun, I guess. People tell me Corner Gas or Amazing Race are good shows, but I haven’t sat down to watch them yet. We had TAFRRK for a while but we haven’t seen it yet either. One of the things I also like to do is share my findings with other people, so I’d want David to watch Gankutsuou and get interested in it.
As a new years resolution, I’m going to try to stop buying games and movies that I don’t intend to watch, even if they’re on sale =)
GAME RELATED:
5) own an xbox 360
6) beat Master Ninja or Ninja Gaiden Black
7) get a lot farther in KOTOR and Katamari Damacy
9) Have Duy finish Paper Mario
14) Draft a Borborygmos or a Niv-Mizzet
16) play a d20 game or a ... The Great Game of Fantasticity
20) Go paintballing
21) Get 10 more diamond records
Yup, got an xbox 360. Actually we have all 3 now, but yes, I have an xbox 360, since March 2006, so that “goal” got accomplished quite early. And I’m happy with my 360.
The Ninja Gaiden Black goal was a fun goal… I did beat it on Very hard, but not Master Ninja. I’m still stuck on the first page! I didn’t play either Katamari Damacy or KOTOR since I put up this goal, I’m afraid… but since we have the PS3 now, I think I can start playing Katamari Damacy again, if I felt like it…
It’s weird, Alan and Duy bought paper mario, but I finished it first and they didn’t play it anymore. So I guess this goal is unaccomplished. I should change the goal to say “get Duy to beat MY GAME”, which would be more of an interesting goal.
Yes, I drafted Niv-Mizzet. That’s all. I have not played d20 or the GGOF, but then again, nobody else has either, so maybe it’s a dying sport. I still haven’t gone paintballing, but I’ve been more go-karting. And for Karaoke Revolution, nope, I don’t think we got anymore diamond records. I actually forgot some of the words to “California Dreamin!”
Why these goals? Well, I have games, and a goal in a game is to… well, get to the goal, and beat it. Some games are just there and should be played, and some goals were just for fun (like the drafting one). If I haven’t played a game for a while, maybe it’s worth trying to get rid of it?
Anyway, that’s 18 goals down, 14 goals to go. The conclusion of this post is already written, but I’ll post it later because this post is long enough. I’ll conclude this post in the next post, or possibly the post after the next =)
