Obtaining a Wii: Fission Mailed
OMG, so many failures. First, Borat – we show up Friday at 8:30, and ALL shows were sold out. I knew the movie would be popular, but damn. Most recent Friday was Casino Royale (more on that next update), we got there at 8:00, wanted to see 8:30 or 9:00, both sold out. Fail. Saw 10:15 then.
Friday morning, discussing with coworkers and people, we all thought there would be no wii shortage. I thought on Sunday I could wake up at noon and go to Bestbuy, walk in, and grab a Wii. We knew PS3 would have shortages, and people lining up and camping outside. I didn’t expect this for the Wii.
Then I started reading things. Even the words “Limited Quantities” on Best Buy flyers starting scaring me. The buzz was around that maybe we would be wrong. Fast forward to 8:13 AM today. My dad and I get in the car, and instead of going straight to Best Buy (which opened its doors at 8:00), we check out Zellers. Zellers opens at 10:00, But there’s a line up of about 30-40 people out there. I’m not waiting 2 hours, so we head to Best Buy, where the doors are already open.
On the way there, I see a line that extends around the corner at Futureshop, and a small crowd of people around EB Games (Heartland). It’s interesting – from far away it looks like everyone’s wearing black, so it’s like a bunch of leeches or a swarm of insects outside each building.
So I get to Best Buy, and there’s a line up, even though the doors are open. I start standing in line, but it turns out there’s a ticket system. I figure at 8:00 AM when the doors opened, they came outside and gave away 120 tickets, one for each system. Obviously, I didn’t get a ticket. There still was a line-up because they were only letting a few people in at a time. So some people might leave and come back later. Anyway, the rule was that if a ticket person didn’t pick up their Wii by 10:00 AM, it becomes for sale and up for grabs. But I wasn’t going to wait.
So, it’s 9:12 now, and I don’t have a Wii. My plan obviously failed… and to anyone reading this, like Ambrose, don’t bother. But maybe the Waterlooer’s wiii have more luck.
More on 007’s Casino Royale next update. Until then, I’m going back to sleep.
::edit:: 10:22 status update - Went back to Zellers, and at 9:57 it was sold out. I went inside to make sure, and yeah, it seemed pretty sold out. Didn't check EB and etc, but I figure they were in the same situation. Also went to Blockbuster on the way back; turns out they were sold out last night. ::/end edit::
::edit 2:: Ambrose got a Wii. He wins. He did go to BestBuy, like me, but at 4:00 AM instead. He says if we went at 6:00, tickets would've been gone already... so yeah. Anyway, I hear next batch comes out in 2 weeks. Maybe I should make sure to get one then... cuz it's a lot of fun! ::/end edit 2::
