Zelda Game: Critical Update
I wasn’t going to have another update for my game for a while, except this is a critical update, in other words, it’s a severely important feature of the game that could improve its enjoyment.
You can now save and load the game.
This is great news. It’s obvious why saving and loading is good, but also, this let’s me continue making my game – right now it’s a 20-30 minute game, and if you die, then you start all over. It’s already a pain to redo 10-20 minutes of play, so if I expanded the game without saving, then eventually someone will play for 50 minutes, die, and then never play the game again.
So how do you prevent death? You make levels really, really, really easy, and I didn’t want to do that either. So now I can save and load, which means I can have a 6-hour game, with plenty of tough challenges, as long as there are save points before the boss or challenge or whatever.
Anyway, I just finished saving and loading, so there are still some things missing, and I will probably post another update really, really soon. For example, when it starts, it says there’s only 1 save point, but really there’s 3. Also, I’m having a bug where if you get a sword-length upgrade, it won’t carry through properly when you save it.
So here’s the new file:

There are two save points – one in the inn, and one in the South village. As I said, there’s probably another update soon – probably Zelda-0048 or something. But it won’t be too much, just a few bugs here and there – as long as you can save and load though, that’d be good. So please, try out the game, and tell me if you find any bugs with saving and loading.
While we’re on the subject, today I thought of an amazing twist I can put on the game… some really hard to open door… or hatch? Yes, really hard to open hatch… just gotta find a good way to implement it.
Anyway, last weekend I was quite busy, this Friday night and Saturday daytime I’ll be busy again, but soon I’ll have more time to update my blog about what happened/is happening these two weekends. Seminar went well, fashion show was kinda boring, bowling was fun (scored 129!). Also, LOST is awesome.
::edit:: I just updated the link to 0046 instead of 0045. Also, just now, I'm starting to ask for help from players! Unfortunately, at this point, you can't really help without Flash. If you have Flash, that's great. I can upload Flash 5, but I have to check if it works first, or else you'll need to get a copy of Flash MX 2004 from me.
Anyway, now I'm asking for users to help me make levels, using my level creating tool! You can find it here: USER LEVEL CREATOR . If users can create levels for me, first, they'll get to be in the credits, and secondly, it will help me make my game much faster. Thanks! :: /end edit::
