F O O D
Went to Mandarin today, then to a surprise BBQ for dinner. So I’m all stuffed now, although I didn’t eat so much at the BBQ. And then… comes Summerlicious.
Summerlicious, as I understand it, is a celebration that happens annually in Toronto, for a few weekends in July. During this celebration, many fine restaurants in the area serve fixed 3-course meals for lunch and/or dinner for a fixed price, between $15-20 for lunch and $25-35 for dinner. So instead of paying the usual $60-200 or whatever, we get to pay less!
Ray went to Summerlicious last year and maybe some years before that, but this time I will join too! So this year I think it’s myself, Duy, Ricky, Ray, Geoff, and Ambrose so far. I think maybe I’ll go twice, so two weekends. Ray sent me a link to the site with all the featured restaurants and their menus, and it’s quite mouthwatering.
So this should be fun - and expensive. I might spend over $60 on two weekends for a meal, plus transportation – but it’s not every day I eat something like Lamb Shank, or Lobster Bisque, or gazpacho/compote/gnocchi/ganoche, or Quail eggs, or Roulade, or some exotically prepared mixture of seafoods, or Shrimp in Chocolate Sauce… alright, I made that last one up (or did I? dun dun duuun…)
Anyways, this should be an interesting experience. I looked at the menus so I can help Ray and Geoff decide on places to go, instead of them picking all the places… this should be interesting. Better leave room for appetizers and desserts!
(Roulade… if that’s like the German “Rouladen”, then I miss it – haven’t had it since ’98… and that was some kind of meat Rouladen. This is Salmon and King Crab Roulade.)

We’re going to “Canoe” on July 8th for dinner – they’re taking reservations starting tomorrow, and I hear everything fills up fast, so if you want in, you better get in now.
And since we’re on the topic of food… there’s spooning, knifing, forking, plating, and…
Bowling
About 4 weeks ago WinMagic had a free bowling party at Brunswick-Zone, I guess a new place around Dundas/Dixie/Tomken. Since then, I joined a sorta-league. Jessica from the office had this flyer and she was very convincing, so in short, myself, my uncle, Nguyen, and Jessica signed up for a 5-week bowling league-thing.
I don’t think it’s really a great deal, for the bowling part – but you get a free bowling ball, so that should be cool. The deal was $50, so $10 a week, 2 games a week, so $5 a game, and that includes shoe rental and whatever else. $5 a game, which is 10 frames, and 2 throws per frame, so that’s like 25 cents each time you pick up a ball.
So it’s not a great deal, not as good as 2-hour bowling for $7 or unlimited on some nights… but whatever. So, in my first week, I bowled a 49 and a 58; 2nd week I dramatically improved to 81 and 81, and this week I bowled a disappointing 72, and a kinda disappointing 84.
The 84 was the result of a crappy start and a nice ending. My first 4 frames were 10, 3, 3, and 5, which sucked royally. Then I rounded up the rest of the game with 18, 19, 9, 9, 1, and 7. I’d like to think I’m getting better… hopefully I’ll eliminate those 3’s and 5’s and replace them with…. bigger numbers.
