X in a Check

A few months ago, I asked Alan about an example creature, which looked something like this:

Zombie Man – 2BB
Creature – Zombie Human
Dredge 2
Everytime you dredge this guy, put a Zombie counter on him. When he comes into play, he gets +1/+1 for each Zombie counter on him.
?/?

So basically it has Zonecarry, a mechanic I had on a few cards during Unknown, that allowed a card to remember certain things as it passes through zones. So the question I asked Alan was, what should this creature’s power and toughness be? If he started out as a 1/1, he’ll be a 4-to-cast 1/1, then a 2/2, etc… so he’ll be crap, still crap, sub-par, aggressively costed (4/4), and then sweet (5/5).
If he was 3/3, he’ll be sub-par, aggressive, sweet, and then too amazing. So I asked Alan, and the general idea was that he should be the second one.

Of course, this was an example card – I didn’t want to tell Alan the actual card. It’s fairly different, actually, but I enjoyed asking him the question.

This cycle of cards actually came up early in the development cycle, to fix one of the shortcomings of the other fake sets:

Okay, I lied – I said the sticker was the only crazy thing, but this is sort of like the sticker. You get to write stuff on the paper! And yes, I was trying to boost the replayability of the cards. I’m hoping people would play these cards more, up to the point where they are broken, and then, maybe banned.

Anyway, this is the last official day of preview cards… so what have we looked at so far, not including secret preview cards, and tiny previews (like Quam Sancta)?

We’ve looked at 2 white cards, 2 black cards, 2 red cards, 2 green cards, 1 blue card, and 2 other cards (draft options).
We’ve looked at 6 commons, 4 uncommons, and 1 rare.

By logical progression, the last thing I should show you is a blue rare. The first blue rare in my set is also the best blue rare in my set, and here it is in its most natural beauty.

Anyway, that's the end of the previews! I will probably write another article before the draft, maybe, maybe not. So wait... and hope!
