Blog-mar5

Umm… I’m not sure how focused of an update I want, so I’ll just say some stuff that’s been on my mind, and go through some stuff that has been happening lately.

First, I’m glad that the Samurai Champloo dvds I bought have the same subtitling/etc from the version I was downloading, which brings me to my first topic – Yesterday was the IGNITE culture show, a Vietnamese students’ association event, put together by the VSA’s from all the different Universities from Ryerson, McMaster, UoT, Waterloo, etc. I don’t usually attend these, but Waterloo was performing this time, and my McMaster girls were coming and I really wanted to see them… plus, some people from work came too. (My McMaster girls aren’t really my girls, it’s just the two pairs of sisters that I like, heh.)

I went with my uncle, so before the show (which was in the UoT downtown campus) we strolled around Chinatown. Now, I haven’t been to Chinatown in at least 3 years. From the outside, it looked pretty much the same; well, except for the whole bunch of pirated dvds selling on the streets and inside malls. I would think selling pirated dvds out on the streets would be really dangerous, with cops and all, isn’t it? But they still do it, not sure how they get away with it… The standard price for a pirated dvd was maybe $4 for 1, or $20 for 6… porn might be $20 for 7, and pirated HK movies go for $20 for 10.

So I bought Samurai Champloo, since I didn’t want to look to download it again, so that was $10. Saves me downloading work, and as I said, it would pretty much be the same as if I downloaded it, from the same subtitlers. I also bought a few in-theatre titles.

The culture show was actually very good! I didn’t see my McMaster girls too much though, except the performing ones… of course I took some video (no pictures though), but I won’t be showing it for a while because Adobe Premiere is being stupid. Actually, I’m downloading a newer version as we speak… go piracy! ^_^

Next week is the McMaster VSA formal. I wanna go there cuz I didn’t spend enough time with my McMaster girls, but unfortunately getting a ride will be the hard part…

All these recent tagging-surveys brought up an idea from my head, which I thought of for a while. I went to Japan and I want to go back, Jason’s in Japan, Wen said he wanted to go there… people are graduating soon, perhaps… and I’ve been to plenty of vacations with parents… but what I really want is a vacation with friends!

So, I’m seriously bringing up this idea, cuz I think it’s a good idea and I want it to happen. A trip with a bunch of us, no parents, for a few weeks, somewhere interesting and fun. Probably some place like Japan, or something in Europe. Any thoughts?

Speaking of Asia, it’s good to know Chinese. I’m not sure when I’ll write an entire entry about San Jose, so I’ll put it up in little chunks and tidbits. I remember in San Jose, we went to a Chinese restaurant and they gave us this 3-page menu, which looked like something you can buy at Mikey’s or Sunshine. Then Jessica started talking Chinese to the waitress, and then she brings us a “secret” 10-page menu… so it’s good to know Chinese.

(Also, it’d be good to know Vietnamese, so I can understand all the jokes from yesterday’s show…)

Another tidbit from San Jose: Ya know how sometimes people drive by with loud rap music? And then you hear the music, and then they speed up and get away, and when you catch up to them you hear the music again? Well, do you know what’s actually pretty funny?

When instead of playing rap music, they’re playing opera music. (it’s one of those you-have-to-be-there moments) – Anyway, everyone in our car laughed whenever we approached that car. Did you laugh? Probably not.

Alright, so it’s March now, and I want my XBOX 360. So everywhere here in North America, everyone is experiencing shortages since November. That Peter Moore guy (some guy in charge) says the shortages should be ending soon, but you never know what to believe… some other people said that it should end middle of March, but who knows… anyway, I really want one, ASAP. First, it’s an xbox 360. Secondly, who knows when I can get one if I don’t get one ASAP?

Anyway, so this Saturday is McMaster’s formal, but if I’m not going, perhaps… hmm…
