New Car Smell...
Yesterday my sister got something with that new car smell...
A NEW CAR! Yes yes, we got a new car added to our family yesterday. Finally, after 6-12 months of planning and research and deals and complaints, we finally drove out of the dealership in a brand new Lexus IS 250. As I said, we've been planning to get a car for about 12 months, and then it turned to 'this' car for 6 months, so as you can tell my sister must be pretty excited about it. It's primarily my sister's and my dad's car, so it's not like she has the whole thing to herself.
After leaving the dealership, we went down to the office and had a bunch of our employees ogle over the new car. They really enjoyed looking at it. I think the feature they enjoy most was the rear-view camera, activated when you shift into reverse, so you can see everything behind you. I dunno, for some reason people go crazy when they see themselves on a screen (and in retrospect, they go shy when they're about to appear in a private home video).
Speaking of features, there's a bunch of other ones. Bluetooth phone stuff, navigation, I think 6-cd changer... and one of the more impressive ones, key-less ignition and key-less entry.
Okay, so you still have a key, but you also have this remote control pad, similar to the one with the Sienna. While you have this device in your purse or pocket or anywhere around you, you can walk up to the car, touch the door handle, and the driver's door will unlock for you (only the driver's door, safety feature). Then you get in the car, put your foot on the brake, and the ignition light will come on and you press the ignition button, and the car turns on. That's most impressive.
So there's a bunch of features, most good, some bad.. for example, there's the navigation touch-screen system, but it disables itself whenever the car is in motion; so that the driver doesn't get distracted. But then the passenger (me) can't do anything, and the car knows I'm there, right? With the seatbelt light and all that? So that was kinda annoying, and the navigation was a bit off, but maybe if we read the hefty instruction book we'll figure out all the features and how to modify them.
So next time you come over, don't be surprised to see a new car (or vice versa; don't be surprised if you never see my sister at home again, hehe). Maybe we'll even let you sit in the driver's seat and try out the key-less ignition. It's exciting.
