So Long – And Thanks for all the Fish

Okay, time for another run of the mill, weekend kind of update. Additionally, my other blog is lacking comments, so I might post some stuff I have planned for there, here. So, without trying to take up much space… here comes my weekend, and some other things I have done before the weekend. So the usual – anime, videogames, movies, and misc.

Anime

Watched anime. Like that’s a surprise. I finished Full Metal Panic, the 2nd raid. Starts out actiony, and then half-way through it becomes a sad story. Basically, Sousuke is dismissed from watching Chidori, so he goes into a mad depression and she misses him.

Sometimes, especially with longer animes, I would watch episode 1, and then download a much later episode and watch that. So I’ve seen Yakitate Japan 1 and Monster 1, and now I’ve seen Yakitate Japan 1, 9, 34, and 43, and Monster 1, 64, and 66. YJ is still pretty funny and wild, except it’s not as “unbelievable” as episode 1. I thought Monster was a show about a doctor and his decisions, but it’s really about… a serial murder and bad people or something? Anyway, that was okay.

Black Cat is okay.

Video Games

I got my orders from Amazon.ca, but I didn’t touch them yet. Jia came over on Saturday, and it was just us two, so it was time to try my Amazon orders. I got Katamari Damacy, Ninja Gaiden Black, the Taito compilation and the Capcom compilation. I let Jia choose, and we tried a bunch of games on the Capcom compilation. Played some two-player co-op games, and then had some 2-player alternating games.

Ghost and Ghouls (the NES version) is HARD, and unforgiving, and such a jerk. Two hits and you die, and it’s so jerk-like. There are some other jerk-like games, and some other…other games, but meh, that was a fun way to spend the time.

Although it brings up a question – why do we spend time playing these games? Such a jerk-like game – so it’s Jia and I, trying to beat a computer with its own set of rules – why? Just to test ourselves?

Anyway, then we played a bit of Street Fighter, computer owned me good. And that’s it for videogames – I’ll play a bit of Ninja Gaiden Black sometime tonight.

Movies

My sister rented the Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and so I finally watched it (hence, the reference in the blog title). I haven’t read the book, so I hoped the movie would be good.

It was… okay. First, it teaches me the origins of some of the things – like, why the answer to life is 42, and where, I think, Ambrose gets his Zaphod from. Truthfully, I had no idea. Anyway, I liked the intellectual parts, the part of the “Guide”, and now I have that “So Long – And Thanks for All the Fish” song in my head. Anyway, the movie was pretty silly too, with the crazy captain and stuff… so I wasn’t really in the mood for a silly movie, so I didn’t really like that part.

Yesterday, when Jia came over, we decided to watch a movie, and we invited Ambrose. We didn’t know what to watch, so we used IMDB as a guide. So our top choices were A History of Violence, Lord of War, and the Weatherman. The Weatherman didn’t look like it was our type of movie though, and we probably wanted more action, so we took that out. A History of Violence and Lord of War are not showing in Mississauga, apparently, not at Silvercity or Coliseum. We didn’t want to watch Saw II or Doom, so we went with Zorro.

Zorro… wasn’t bad. It certainly wasn’t so good though. It didn’t have any “ooh” or “aah” or anything – it felt sorta mediocre. If you really like Catherine Zeta Jones, go see it, she’s hot. If you really like to see her kissing, then definitely go see it. Otherwise, it didn’t feel very special. And it’s certainly been a long time since the first Zorro, so it feels… outdated.

And that’s it for movies… my uncle buys dvds from Chinatown every now and then, so I asked him if he could get me Serenity, and he did. I think it’s from a VHS Screener – the quality is OK, not bad, so it’s watchable.

Misc

Cracked open a Terry’s Orange, DARK chocolate yesterday. Whoa, orange dark chocolate is awesome. However, the bitter of dark overrides some of the orange taste, so it just tastes like really good dark chocolate with a hint of orange. Jia and I ate most of it that day, shared some with the family, and here I am, finishing it up.

It’s sooo good.
