Various
Okay, let’s pick some of the topics I have lined up for the other blog and post them here instead…
Inexperienced
Hmm… so I applied for a few more jobs about a week ago – just 3 or 4, so I haven’t heard from them, so that’s a no go. Actually, Monster.ca has its own online resume thing – you go through a survey type thing and write down your experiences in order of date and them you can select your skills and whatever.
And then when you submit your Monster resume to a Monster employer person, there’s a Monster survey that comes up that that employer made up. Multiple choice (Y/N), about 3-6 questions… it’s irritating, when you’re answering the questions… yes, yes, yes, no, no, yes… submit… and then you sit back thinking – damn. Of course, the best candidate would say yes – so already having a few “no’s” gives you a sinking feeling of not getting the job.
Money that you have that you don’t
Okay, try this experiment – or just listen to it. Get a $50 dollar bill of yours, and hide it. Hide it somewhere, and maybe put a post-it note on it. Eventually, maybe you’ll forget about it. Couple months go by, and you find the money with the note.
So all of a sudden, it’s like, you found $50! And you’re happy. Of course, nothing happened – your net balance is still the same, but it feels like you’ve made money today.
Similarly, let’s say you didn’t find the $50 ever. Let’s say you forgot about it. If you forgot about it, you can’t miss it, right?
Anyway, this all ties in together with online poker. In April, I told myself I would stop playing poker, and I did – I still had an online internet poker account, I just stopped playing. I’m not, like, poor, or anything, so I continued living life regularly. In my online poker account though, I have about $120 US. It’s just sitting there, dormant.
Nobody is touching the money, it isn’t gaining interest, nothing is happening. I don’t have it with me, and I’m not using it. Would I be sad if it suddenly disappeared? Well, in all realities, yes, it’s not “right” if the money suddenly disappeared, but if I did forget about it, I wouldn’t miss it.
So right now I have $120 in my poker account. And going with the idea that I won’t miss it, I kinda started playing online poker again, but for VERY, VERY low stakes. If I play a bit everyday or every few days, just for fun, then it’s okay. I’ll say, I’ll maybe spend $10 a week, and so in 12 weeks it’ll be okay if I have $0 in my account, cuz I don’t miss it. However, if I do well then I might have more than $120 in my account, or whatever – and I wouldn’t really care either way.
Anyway, even though I don’t care if I lose it all, I’m still keeping a record of my performance. Over the past 8 days, I’ve profited $6.00. My get-poor-slow scheme is sorta going the opposite direction… but that’s okay.
Next 3 weeks will be interesting…
