"Defiantly Guiding my Media to Magic Beginnings" - Feast

I’m at work now! I’m at my dad’s office, and this is my second day at work. I’m working in the same room as Kevin, the “media” guy; he takes care of the e-learning videos and some back-end ASP/perl stuff for quizzes or whatever. Right now he’s not here, because he’s gone to pick up his kids at the airport, and I’m here.

Okay, I wrote about 30% of this blog entry at home, so no, I’m not spending ALL my time here blogging. I wanted to finish this blog last night, but after work I just wanted to have fun and not blog, so I’m doing the blogging now. I’m supposed to edit video, but without Kevin’s supervision, I can probably relax a bit now. Plus, I got crappy codec problems which Kevin doesn’t have, so I’m trying all kinds of things to fix that…

Anyway, details, details. There wasn’t a free, powerful enough computer here in the office (for video editing and what-not), and my sister was using her computer, so here I am, in the office, with my own beast computer. For the first few days, I think we’ll just carry this beast around with us.

So far, it’s been pretty chillax here. The environment’s not bad, I like the people here. There’s a guy here who reminds me totally of Jia. I should bring Jia into the office, so he could follow me around and talk to Dave and stuff.

Anyway, so it’s been over a week, and a lot of stuff with friends has happened since then. The Magic Draft and gathering, Friends coming over, Jia coming over, and the movie+dinner day. Yesterday was good too, with going shopping and attending two barbecues. Today I went to the office, and I’ll talk about that later in the entry.

Oh, and of course, I had my 3 week vacation in Asia. Over the next few weeks, I will make a webpage chock full of pictures and videos and info and memories and all that jazz, meanwhile keeping busy with living my life and updating this blog with the up-to-date stuff.

Magic Draft

Seven people attended the draft. My pre-draft-attendance prediction wasn’t too far off. Jason did arrive first at 2:11, and then the rest followed, except David, who had problems with the bus, but whatever, long story short, he showed up closer to 3:42. And thus, we started drafting at 4:00, and that took forever.

I quite enjoyed drafting this time. It was fun. My deck wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be, but I still liked it, and I intend to keep my draft deck this time, at least for a while. Of course, I enjoyed drafting so much, a few days later I went out and bought some more cards. 9 Saviors boosters, a Champions single, and a bunch of boxes. Luckily, in the 9 saviors boosters, picked up technically 8 new rares; one of the rares I got was the same as one of the rares in these 9 packs. But that rare belongs to Vinks, cuz I gave him that booster before we opened it.

And then, I made more decks. Whee.

Jia

The other day Jia took 2 hours to walk over to our place. Of course, he stayed for many days afterwards. Over the time, we cleaned houses and stuff, and we watched some Horror Hong Kong flicks, such as “The Eye”, or “The Phone.” I did like the Phone better. Oh yeah, my uncle seems to collect these type of movies or something.

Anyway, the next movie we’ll watch is TAFRRK. Actually, it’s called The Park, but I dunno, the side of the dvd says TAFRRK, which is the funniest thing ever. Feel free to join us for some weird HK flick with English subtitles. Also, we still have to watch Himalayan Singh!

Dinner and a Movie

Batman Begins. Go see it. It’s goooood. Sure, say what you will about Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Maybe you like them, maybe you don’t. They were kinda cheesy, and it was a bit childish. Anyway, it’s been many years, and now there’s Batman Begins. You’ve heard good things about it and now I’m saying good things about it. Lastly, it’s directed by Christopher Nolan (Memento), and that helps.

So… you could call this like, a prequel to the batman movies. In the other movies, there’s a guy, and he’s batman, and he goes around and defeats arch enemies. In this movie, there’s a guy, and he BECOMES batman. Of course, the movie is great because it shows you why he became batman, and how, and all that stuff.

This movie had the same thing going as Star Wars III; people tell you it’s totally awesome, yet you become skeptical because past batmans and starwars were… pretty… bad. So, you’re skeptical, so when you go see the movie you won’t be expecting that much, and then you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

The movie is beautifully shot. Christopher Nolan did a pretty good job with this. The arch villain in this movie is a pretty good choice, taking into account how Nolan likes “weirdness”. And it wasn’t a silly villain either, although one part with the villain was totally hilarious.

At around 4:56, there was a power outage in the theatre. Nothing too exciting, power (or emergency power) came back 3 minutes later, and we just missed a couple seconds of the movie (between when Freeman was showing Bruce about the belt and stuff, and when they’re opening the drawer with the suit in it).

There was a lineup when we got out, because they were giving away free passes, because of the poweroutage. WIN! So, we got free movie passes, to watch another movie.

So, the movie was free, but then came dinner. Red Lobster. Unless something crazy happens, the dinner wasn’t going to be free. In fact, it would be the opposite of free, which is über expensive. So anyway, we get to Red Lobster, 20 minute wait, that’s fine.

Hmm.. not much to say now. I think I chose the wrong meal, though… I heard people, like Duy and/or Alan say the Admiral’s Feast was good, but… in retrospect, I think I should’ve taken something… less fried, and… better. I think if I were to do it again, I would’ve tried them Lobster Chops, not sure what those are.

So, I’ve had the Admiral’s Feast; Duy had the Broiled Fisherman’s Feast; Ambrose had the Seaside Shrimp Trio (which is also a feast); both Ray and Jia had the Ultimate Feast, and Alan had a “make your own” 3 item feast, composed of Baked sole, the East Coast Pasta dish, and the outer banks sample.

Admiral’s Feast was all fried, and… wasn’t so good. Not as good as broiled or grilled shrimp, fresh and made the way it should be. Fried… is like having chicken nuggets instead of fine chicken, or whatever. It was still good, yet not worth the price, as Ray said. Lobster Chops sound pretty good right about now.

Oh, crazy Jia. He had 5 sprites (free refills) and 11 pieces of Garlic bread. I had 2, Duy had 1, I think everyone else had 1-3. Well, it’s free, and Jia still managed to eat his entire meal. I only ate about 60% of my meal, then I was quite full.

Conversations during dinner were quite hysterical. Most of it was talking about school, Jia and Ray’s life at mcmaster; whenever they bring something up, it’s usually pretty funny or over the top.

Guild Wars

Duy has slowed down on Guild Wars, Jason still plays it a lot, and I’m in the middle. Jia can’t play it at home because it doesn’t run there, so every now and then when he comes over he has the chance to play it, so him and I go around and do quests together. I like Guild Wars. It’s fun. And of course, it’s cheaper than WOW. I just reached level 12, so I’ve still got a lot to go. I’m still in the top portion of the world, not sure when I will reach the rest of the world.

A while ago I’ve never done a quest with henchmen, but lately I started and they sure help. It’s more fun with real people, but when they’re not available, henchmen will do. And going around doing missions is fun, and exploring new areas and finding new towns (that you might not supposed to find yet) is fun. It’s always great finding a new warp point.

Definately
So… I’m not crazy. Last night I was talking to Christa, and I asked her a question, and she replied “Definately". Also, I talked to Amish, my friend from grades 3-8 (and now too, but primarily then), and he also spelled it Definately until grade 8. And of course, for the past 12 years, I’ve been spelling it Definately too. What’s up with that?

The real word is definitely. I would say around grade 3, I learned it as Definately. I remember it, because it’s like Defi-Natalie, and I had a friend named Natalie, so it stuck. I kept wondering why other people spelled it differently, while my version is correct. But… it’s not. So that’s weird.

Saturday

We’re having friends over on Saturday. A Jason-going-away-thingy. And on Sunday I’m going to Pacific Mall to meet a friend, Amy, give her the wooden sandals and stuff. Wanna come Jia?
