XBOX - ... wow, I have one!
Okay, it’s like Saturday night, Sunday morning now. For now, non-Xbox related blog stuff will be postponed to another blog. This one is dedicated just to the xbox.
So… I got it! I got an Xbox. I went to the mall today, and got an xbox.
So… etc, looked around online for more information, called Electronics Boutique. I ask them about the ‘trade 5 games to knock off $100 bucks’ deal, and what the restrictions are, and they told me they can’t do it over the phone. They say I should just bring everything to the store. Let’s call this point in time, POINT A.
Oh wait, back up a sec. Well, also read the massive comments in the 2nd part of the previous entry if you haven’t yet. There’s a lot of background info in there. Anyway, so I wake up, I went downstairs, and lo and behold, the 4-5 games that I wanted to trade, WEREN’T THERE! I called home, and lo and behold, they’re in Mississauga. So I got really, really pissed off about that for a little while.
Backing up a bit more, the night before, I was really looking forward to getting an Xbox. It’s like a dream that’s about to become a reality. Maybe it’s like a first date, or your car is being shipped to you, or something special like that. So the night before you become really excited and anxious and anticipative, (what the hell? Anticipative is a word?) and you get overjoyed feelings. So, when I found out the games weren’t here, I got really pissed off. I know in Mississauga I set the games aside, like, out of the box, to count them and to separate them from the rest. But they weren’t supposed to stay in ‘Sauga.
Boy, those joyous feelings really cause a lot of irrationality. If I was truly rational, I would just wait till we go back to ‘Sauga, and then buy the Xbox there, with all 5 games there. But Alas, I was irrational, because I really wanted an Xbox today. More on that later.
-------- shopping
Anyway, at this time Walmart has started its 10 year anniversary sale, so our plan was to Bus to Fairview mall and visit EB and Walmart and buy stuff accordingly. So back to point A… made KD for lunch, etc, then we walked over to Gemini Jetpack to see what Magic-cards singles they had. It was mostly Jason and Alan for that, since I’ve decided to stop spending real money on magic for now, as it should be. We soon after got on bus #12, en route to Fairview mall.
Vanessa said it would take about 40 minutes, but it took more like, 52 minutes. It was a pretty darn long bus ride. We get in, and head straight for EB; luckily, it was right outside Walmart, so that was convenient. Anyway, the 5 games deal; we brought other games, including Fifa 2002, with Ambrose’s permission. I was wondering if I should trade Burnout 2, cuz it’s such a good game.
Anyway, Burnout 2, Sonic Mega Collection (which I bought previously at EB for $24.99) (same with Burnout 2, but that was like a year ago), and PSO were qualified; Tony Hawk 3 and Fifa 2002 weren’t. Also, Mario Sunshine (in ‘Sauga) and F-Zero GX (in ‘Sauga) were qualified too, whilst Luigi’s Mansion and NFL Blitz 2002 weren’t. However, Hawk’s agreed to buy F-Zero GX for about $20.
Anyway, so 3 games qualified, but that doesn’t mean I get $60 off the system. No, it’s stupid like that. If 5 games qualified, I’d get $100 off, but for some reason these games are valued differently if not all 5 games are present. PSO itself was worth $23, but the other games were not really; Fifa was about $6, so we kept that, and Tony Hawk 3 was about $7, so we sold that too. So 4 games, for a shitty total of $51 off.
Again, if we were rational, we’d wait to go back to ‘Sauga and sell the games we don’t need, and get the $100 off. Now we’re stuck with Mario sunshine for longer… However, we also spent 50 minutes to get to the mall, and we weren’t about to leave empty handed. So, we got an Xbox. And we went all out.
--------- games
That’s the expensive part. Before we get to that, let’s visit WalMart. Didn’t see KOTOR, so we didn’t get it, but Burnout 3 was $10 cheaper than it was at EB, so we bought that there. So back to EB, there’s this $5 card you can buy to get 10% off all pre-played games for a year, so we took advantage of that. Long story short, our game list now is:
Burnout 3 (new)
Guilty Gear X2 Reload (new)
Halo (pre-owned)
Project Gotham Racing 2 (pre-owned)
Magic Battlegrounds (Free with offer)
Top Spin (with xbox)
Amped 2 (with xbox)
Additionally, we also got MechWarrior (pre-owned) and JetSetRadio+Sega GT 2002 (pre-owned), but before leaving the store we decided to save money and return them. Also, additionally, we went all out and bought a Logitech controller and 2 Mad Catz controllers.
DOA XBV (Beach volleyball) was out of stock, although they had it that morning; IGN gave it 9.2, so it must be at least decent. DOA3 was there for cheap, but DOA ultimate is coming out soon, so maybe I’ll get that (more on that later). Didn’t see Ninja Gaiden.
On the way home, I was thinking we shouldn’t’ve gotten Top Spin and Amped 2 (and bought the regular version rather than xbox holiday bundle), and that Halo wouldn’t be worth it for just the co-op. Anyway, got home, tried Halo, and co-op is fun, so I think it was worth it.
Then Alan and Jason played some Magic Battlegrounds, I went out for a bit, and when I came back I played around 90 minutes of Burnout 3. How sweet it is.
So… we have an Xbox now. It’s kind of exciting, feels weird, having a new console. I didn’t make a big deal of it when I opened it, but it’s nice. It’s not like I opened it and it’s amazingly super duper more than I expected, but it’s not less than I expected, so that’s good. It’s fun. Gotta try those other functions I hear about, like playing a music cd instead of the game’s music or something. Who wouldn’t want to burnout while listening to 600 AD? :P
It feels kinda refreshing how I don’t have to buy memory cards :P
-------- death
Anyway, now onto the hard part. I bought via credit card, and eventually my mom’s gonna open up the credit card statement and… well, we’ll see. I’m gonna be fed cheap death. Or very expensive death. Anyway, the best plan of action is to probably call her tomorrow and half apologize, or half say that I’ll make up for it. If I e-mail her I’ll get an angry phone call, or if I wait for it to arrive, then it’ll be even worse. So calling would be the best idea…
Problem #2… well, after this horrendous spending spree, I can’t really make any more credit card purchases for a while. Maybe I’ll cash spend Metroid Prime 2 and Halo 2 and Viewtiful Joe 2. Maybe I’ll hold out on Viewtiful Joe 2 for a bit, seeing how Viewtiful Joe is so hard and thus harder to play… but VJ2 is co-op ish, right? … and of course, Halo 2 was a major factor for the xbox purchase, so I have to get my hands on it somehow…
Anyway, now we have the xbox, it’s opened, it can’t be very well refunded. So, we better make good use of it. Also have 4 controllers for Halo and Project Gotham Racing. And Top Spin too :P But I miss burnout 2 for cube, but maybe I’ll get the xbox version, although Burnout 3 will keep me occupied quite nicely.
And yes, Burnout 3 is awesome. It’s exciting, and crashing is fun too, and it’s overall very stylish. And who knows, maybe Alan will do well at this, seeing how he plays Sega Rally… suicidally trying to run people into walls… that will work here :P
Anyway, that’s about it. Wen might be coming over for lunch tomorrow… then he’ll be pretty surprised. I think. Oh well. It’s time for sleeping.
