chilling lifestyle of the g1 generation: KHAAAAN!

Okay, it’s 11:00 pm on Monday night now. CSI Miami Season premiere just ended, and I have a night class tomorrow, so I don’t have to get up for anything. Besides, I won’t spend too long writing, although I’ll be procrastinating while writing, with msn and other things. But, I haven’t written in a while, letting blog-topics build up, so I should write.

------------- What are they doing now? ----------

Don’t worry, I’m always here. So when Alan’s blog hasn’t been updated for 9 days, Jason 10, David 11, Duy 13, Ray 15, and Ambrose 27, you can usually count on me for a blog update every 6 days, or more often than that. Actually, let’s do that now… welcome to another biweekly edition of “What are they doing now?” – Otherwise known as, “Bao blogging for other people.”

Well, David I can’t really blog about. Not sure what he’s been up to, or what is private, or what not. However, I can do a semi-blog for Ray and Ambrose. So for Ambrose:

“I am in Ottawa. Either that, or I’m dead or missing, but Bao doesn’t know, so he’ll assume I’m just in Ottawa. Apparently, I don’t have internet here. I’ve been working, and I’ve been doing a lot of gaming. I live in a nice place, and I have some okay neighbours. I usually cook for myself. But sometimes I go out and have milkshakes.”

For Ray:

“I am at Mac. Either that, or I’m dead or missing, but Bao doesn’t know, so he’ll assume I’m at Mac. So anyway, caf food sucks. And as I already said, I got ninjaed out of living with people I wanted, so I’m living with some queer folks. And we got cheaped out of Internet, so I haven’t been able to blog. Or maybe I’ve been spending all this time with the WOW beta and the EQ2 stuffs and other things Bao doesn’t know much about.”

Alan, Jason, and Duy, that’s easy. First, the individual blogs:
Alan: “The Champions of Kamigawa magic expansion is almost out! Some of the preview cards look pretty nifty. Bao told me not to look at the spoiler list, although I already know 80 of the 300 cards. So I guess I won’t look at them… we’ll probably have a draft for just the few of us in a few weeks. As for the rest… Bao will blog about it, so I don’t need to.” :P

Jason: “Okay, so I’ve moved in. I’m taking 5 courses this term, so it’s a pretty light term, with some tutoring here and there. My schedule’s pretty good too. Anyway, so I moved in, not too far from Duy, Bao, and Alan, so more gameage for me! Anyway, I forgot to bring my computer, so I’ve only used the computers at school and at Alan’s place, so I haven’t had the time to blog.”

Bao: “Procrastinating. Watching Jay Leno. Come on, Jay Leno’s guest tonight? Jon Stuart! That must be something…”

Duy: “So… I finally got all my classes together. I think. My classes are okay… I haven’t skipped any yet. :P Anyway, other than Tales and anything else Bao will talk about, I’ve been playing FFXI less and less often, but I still play it often enough.”

Jason, Duy, and Alan, and Bao too: “We’ve been playing a lot of Tales of Symphonia. Bao already mentioned it on his blog, but his blog, which covers up to Wednesday night, says we’ve played for 6 hours. It’s Monday night, and now we’ve played for 44 hours. Well, not all of us together; sometimes we level by ourselves… and then sometimes we reload, so maybe we’ve played 45 hours, but the game says 44 hours. Lots of lunch foods, lots of stuff here and there, etc. – But now Bao’s gonna write about it in his real blog.”

One more thing – Here’s a part of Jia’s not-real blog. It’s important!

Ninjia: KHAAAAAAAAAN!~ lol says:
oh yeah i didnt tell you about khaaaan!
baomon :: stupid is "omg, I just ate soap" says:
nope, what is that?
Ninjia: KHAAAAAAAAAN!~ lol says:
i went to ramas room (he lives downstairs on the first floor) and set it so whenever he maximized a window, minimized a window, opened a file, closed a file, restarted windows, or shutdown windows it would play this wave of kirk shouting KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAN~!
Ninjia: KHAAAAAAAAAN!~ lol says:
while he wasnt there =p then i wrote KHAAAAAN!~ on the whiteboard on his door and waited lol
baomon :: stupid is "omg, I just ate soap" says:

Ninjia: KHAAAAAAAAAN!~ lol says:

baomon :: stupid is "omg, I just ate soap" says:
Hhahaha
Ninjia: KHAAAAAAAAAN!~ lol says:
quite amazing =p
baomon :: stupid is "omg, I just ate soap" says:
haha, indeed. send me that sound file too

So, here it is: http://www.baomon.com/khan.wav (NOT UP RIGHT NOW, check again in a day or so – my FTP is being shitty and won’t let me do anything)- put it on repeat, and listen to it for a minute or so. Hehe. Later Jia wants me to upload the banana phone song and the slow-mo version of the song. But that will come later.

--------------------------- music -------------------

Okay, that ends this month’s “What are they doing now?”. Oh yeah, I’m supposed to do that music thing. Well, last time I posted songs, I got comments for Sheena’s song (from David only) and various comments about Robo’s OC Remix. However, I didn’t get any comments from the Beastie Boys song. I posted real-life music because it seems a lot of our circle of friends don’t listen to real music. Similarly, when Christa posted a link to real-life music sensation Missy Higgins, she didn’t get any responses to her post either.

Anyway, I will post more real life songs later. Today’s songs will be Leon Lai’s Sugar in the Marmalade JE Remix (Japanese English Remix). I think it’s still the Japanese guy singing in Engrish, but he uses English lyrics rather than Japanese lyrics. So it’s not like the difference between a dub and a sub, where the song sounds totally different; so the JE remix is still good, and it’s even funnier because of the engrish. If people want the original non remix version, or other Leon Lai songs, ask me.

Anyway, I don’t know anything about Leon Lai, but I suppose he’s (or they?) are big in Japan… or maybe not, maybe they’re just another pop band. But I like the song, I thought it was cute and funny. As I said before, I heard it from a friend when I was in OAC and she was in gr 9, and her name was Gigi. Gigi Leung, and… well, she has the same name as a famous singer as well.

I think there will only be one song this update. Focus more attention to it. There will be 2 songs next update, neither will be videogame-related either. The .. (dammnit conan, have a commercial break!!) – ALRIGHT, finally Conan had a commercial break. I don’t know who Peter Gallagher is, so I’ll tune in to see who it is, and if I don’t know them, then I can just continue blogging.

Anyway, where was I? Sure, let’s throw in another song from Tales of Symphonia. I should do that every time, throw in a song from Tales of Symphonia, or Everything or Nothing, or whatever we’re playing nowadays. Today will be Sylvarant’s Boss music. Eventually I’ll have Tethealla’s boss music, along with a real life song that sounds similar. Next week, 2 kinda-real songs, one based on a personal-ad, and another I received from a friend. And a Tales song, most likely. No OC remixes this time, although I said I would.

So Tales’s boss music is pretty good. Well, I like it; it’s not totally smooth and orchestrated like FF4, FF6, or FF7, but there is a sense of danger and scariness. This song reminds me of Sword Dancer 1 whenever I hear it.

----------------------- g1 exit ------------------

Anyway, on to the heart of the entry. I guess I should write about my G1-exit test, although it’s been a while so it’s old news now. And then all the comments will be about the test. Or hopefully not. But whatever.

So, long story short, I didn’t pass. (“Didn’t pass” sounds better than “Fail”. Negation of a positive sounds better than the pure Negative). But, I was close to passing. Yeah, being close, etc, all good and stuff, but doesn’t change the fact that I failed.

But, I probably did really well otherwise. I failed during the last minute of the test. So, it’s a short story, but everyone keeps asking so here it is in my blog. So it was Oakville, and I had to make a left turn, and then a right turn into the test center, and then park. So I was at the left turn… I looked forward, and I saw lots of cars in the rightest lane (from their point), and then I noticed that was a right-turn-only lane. So, there were no cars coming and going straight.

So… I should go, right? I looked, and… well, apparently I saw enough room for 2 lanes, but apparently there was only 1 lane.

Needless to say, it’s partially an observation error, followed with ‘taking the right of way’, and I guess that was the automatic fail. The lady was nice, and said the everything else was really good, although I did touch the curb on the hill park, but she couldn’t let me pass because of that.

So, that’s it. I can’t say I’m sad, although I’m a bit disappointed… but I can’t cry about it, no point, so… well, that’s that. And that’s… that. The end.

--------------- lifestyle question -----------------

If there was a disease you can get for drinking too much iced tea, I would have that right now :P (and I forgot to check Conan…) (and now I checked… there’s this lady talking to Conan about Feng Shui…. Damn you Feng Shui, you ninjaed me out of a big room…) (Damn you Conan, for taking me away from blogging… but oh well)

Anyway, let’s go onto the big question of this blog update. I was gonna ask David the other day, then I thought I should just post it in my blog.

What is your current lifestyle? Or, more easily, what are your current hobbies?

Like, my current lifestyle and hobbies can be classified as… well, nerdy. Well, we shouldn’t classify, but oh well. Videogames, anime, magic. Then there’s a bit of poker, but that’s just a small fragment. So that’s one end of the spectrum; videogames, anime, magic.

Then there’s the other end; Girlfriends, smoking, dancing, concerts, getting drunk, having sex. Now, I’m not keen on the smoking, but some of the other stuff sounds interesting… like having sex :P

So, I am completely out of this circle. Then there are moderate circles, and I’m not even with them… with our current group, Jason, Alan, Duy, for example, no offense, it’s just guys – I don’t really know too many females to hang out with. Haven’t gone as a group of friends to the movies, with females – our group is just the guys. There’s VSA, which has girls, and that’s good, but personally, ourselves, there are no girls around. I’m not part of CCF, but CCF does have some females and that’s cool. Just hanging out with female friends would be cool. Made friends with Evelyn the other day, she seems cool. Too bad they all live so far away…

My plan of action? Hehe… passive plan of action. Well, first of all, there’s this party a few houses down every weekend, and today there must’ve been like 50 people there, or a bit less… but I saw people walking or taking cabs to get to this party. Must’ve been pretty wild, or maybe it’s a 4th year Systems thing or something. So, should we go see what’s up?

Well, no. It’s intimidating, first of all, by myself, or whatever – I can’t drag Alan or Duy along, they probably won’t enjoy it. Secondly, going to a party with lots of people I don’t know? That’s really, really weird. (on a side note, I think 90% of that party is white people, and to make it worse, let’s say 0% were oriental). Not racism, but it’s still uncomfortable.

And it’ll be pretty awkward. I’m not a great conversationalist either; what kind of music do I like? I don’t know. Do I like Linkin Park? They’re okay. Do I like Evanescence? They’re okay. What’s my favourite? In this day in age, it’s still awkward to say “anime” and “videogame” music (I say that as if one day, it won’t be awkward anymore).

So, one plan involves VSA, and I just go to their things; one day there’ll be a club dancing day, which was okay, cuz I went to those. Or maybe we’ll go hang out at a bar, or go to a weird party or something. So that’ll be fun.

Another plan is similar, and it just uses friends who are slightly in that circle. Remember Lachlan? He’s still a geek, with his Nintendo games and videogames and LAN parties (which we don’t have enough of :P ) stuff, but I’m sure he still goes dancing sometimes, or has a beer and drinks with friends. If I can tag along with him, that’d be fun. Or other friends, like Dan and Jordan, and Jody, who do it more often.

Well, I don’t need to go to concerts, or maybe not dancing either for a while, and the sex will have to wait and evolve, or so. But just hanging out with girls would be a good start.

So my current lifestyle? It’s fun… I’m happy… say, I’m not sad, I’m not depressed… it might be mundane but not repetitive… like, even if I play smash all the time, it doesn’t feel like I’m doing something repetitive. It might or might not be fulfilling. So… yeah… it’s okay, but change would be nice.

---------------------- randomness: food, etc ---------------------

The rest of the update isn’t that important… just different things. So once again, in order of stuff, then anime/videogames, here are some random notes. (AHH Jia!! Banana Phone slow-mo is making me crazy!) (and with all the procrastinating I’ve been doing, it’s 2:11 now, and I started at 11:00. But I watched most of Leno and half of Conan, and some other stuff… maybe I’ll just finish this tomorrow morning).

So anyway, Thursday and Friday were clubs day, so after Econ 202, Alan and I went to check out the clubs. Long story short, I joined the poker club! I didn’t know there was a poker club, or maybe it’s new, but either way, that should be fun. It’ll satisfy my cravings for poker games, and I’ll meet new people (I’m guessing mostly guys though), so that’ll be cool. They say they’ll have weekly Wednesday games, so I’ll check it out then.

The other day, went to Chill and Grill, a new restaurant that replaced the Lantern Café that nobody ever visited. Went there with Alan and friends, because Alan’s friends were there already – well, Vanessa, Alex, and Betty came to our place to pick us up, and we went there, and that’s where I met Evelyn, whom I mentioned earlier in this update.

That day, I had a brownie sundae, and since then went there twice more, for a Crispy chicken burger and a regular hamburger.

Prices aren’t cheap, but students get a 15% discount, which helps, and pushes some things below the PST tax limit. Anyway, the sundae was okay, it was pretty big though, maybe because I wasn’t hungry at the time. The Crispy Chicken burger was tooo crispy for my (and Duy’s) tastes. It’s like there was an obstacle around the chicken which you had to bite through to get to it… the burger today was good though. A little burnt in some places, so it’s like a BBQ burger, but otherwise pretty good. I’d say it tastes better than harveys, so we’ll go there more often. Prices can be compared to Mel’s for burgers.

Anyway, I have a new idea. Everytime we have a burger, we mostly have lettuce, and then maybe tomato and mayo, or ketchup, and stuff. Anyway, Lettuce seems to be the most obstructive vegetable, burger topping. It adds a sense of healthiness, or not-totally-unhealthiness… but it taints the burger so much. It’s sooo there! Every bite has the lettuce, and it takes away a lot of the taste.

So my last burger had tomato, bbq sauce, and mushrooms and fried/sautéed onions, which are available as toppings from Chill&Grill. It was good. I’m trying to recreate one of my favourite original burgers, the Wendy’s BBQ Bacon… I forget what it was called. But it had Sauteed Onions, which were awesome, and Wendy’s BBQ sauce.

Today, we decided to tag along to Jason’s marker-training-session, although Jason’s not a marker. Duy was reluctant, cuz Jason said it might be over an hour long, but fortunately it was about 15-20 minutes long, and we got free food afterwards! Cookies and brownies and stuff, and coke and drinks, so it was well worth it.

-------------- randomness: TV ------------------

World Poker tour comes on Sunday nights, maybe 11 pm, on City TV. YAY! I caught it today, but it was a rerun, of something I already had on my computer. Bugger. Also, yesterday I was gonna go to bed, but then for some reason I was channel surfing and I tune into CNN, and I saw Larry King talking to Martha Stewart, and then I was interested and watched it for about half an hour. I’m not totally up-to-date on the news, but with watching tv and stuff, I figure things out.

So I was pretty interested in this… seeing Martha Stewart, first live interview after her sentencing, and seeing how she’s coping with it and answering other people’s questions, and seeing how she’s just a regular person, almost, just did something bad, which is natural. Well, I already know all that, how everyone’s just a person… but it was interesting to watch. Not sure if I’d watch Larry King if it were any other interviewee, but Martha was interesting.

----------- randomness: tomorrow --------------

Tomorrow is Tuesday, and I only have the psych class. It’s Amish’s birthday too, and it’s the first day of Fall, and I also think it’s the last day of Virgo. Also, the Starwars Trilogy is coming out on DVD, and my friend just told me that Futureshop and Best Buy are having a one day sale, where it’s like $55, and then after that it’s $81. So I think I know why Wen’s heading to Futureshop tomorrow :P (tomorrow, being today, since it’s in the AM now). I like Starwars, but I’m not a super-fan, so I probably won’t get it, although I’m drawn to bargains like moths to a flame. Cliché, eh? :P

Tomorrow night is my psych class, but afterwards Alan, Duy, Andy and I are going to Molly Bloom’s for wings. Well, Jason would probably come too. Andy’s not in Psych 101, but he’ll meet us. And then I asked Amy if she could join us, and she could, if we went a bit later to wait for her, as she still has a class. So, we’re doing that.

… Super Dave is on TV. That was a cartoon, right? That’s crazy. Crazy stuff that happens when you channel surf, eh?

------------- randomness: games and anime ---------------

Anyway, I already mentioned Symphonia. We didn’t play too much James Bond after the last update, but yeah, we played that. Played A LOT of Symphonia, and it’s all good and stuff. We finally just passed the most useful sentence portion in the game, that’s what I say it is… but whatever. We’re on DISC 2 now, so we’re almost done… and then comes New Game Plus.

Watched Initial D 4th stage eps 5-6. Ummm… that’s all I wanted to say about Initial D. Oh yeah, played more Sega Rally… also, finally today I decided to buy the full game on E-bay, for $2 GBP, with shipping at $2 GBP, so that’s $4 GBP, which is like… well, less than $12 Canadian, so that’s good. So hopefully that’ll increase the game’s longevity, which is already lots of fun.

Elfen Lied… well, no new episodes since 8 came out yet, but I heard it’s only 13 episodes… the way it’s going, it looks like it’ll have a gunslinger girl ending, or a cheap ending… so for gunslinger, it’s not an ending, but it’s a way to just… leave the series. Story doesn’t end, but we figure things out and everything’s okay…

Anyway, I showed Elfen Lied episode 1 to Jason and Alan. Unfortunately, they didn’t seem to like it. Like, while we were watching it, Jason commented that she was cool and stuff, but afterwards he didn’t like episode 1. Not sure how to get him to watch more… well, I can get Alan to watch more, most likely.

The way I see it, the series is like Kill Bill volume 1, plus Kill Bill volume 2, plus Chobits, plus emotional character development and mysterious pasts. So, similarly with Kill Bill, after watching Volume 1 you may not want to watch volume 2, because you hated volume one, but then you’d miss the good stuff.

I think Elfen Lied’s like that – it could turn you away pretty easily, but it’s a really good anime series. So only Jia and I, and Spencer have seen a lot of it… but Wen should see it. And then there’s FMA, and then there’s Samurai Champloo, which Jason and Alan want to see, but Jason wants to wait for Wen to see it too. They saw the intro, and from that they think the episode should be interesting. I’ll wait to see eps 2 and 3 until they’ll watch it with me.

---------- I guess that's it
Ummm… I guess that’s it? It’s damn late now, but I’m not doing anything important tomorrow morning… except sleep =)
