60 Hours, Aliens Lied about Hutch's Symphonia

Alright! So, I posted my big Cancun blog, received no official comments on it yet, on this blog or on the boards. Well, Jia read it, Ray read it, I know Alan read some of it and David is reading through it. I'm imagining people are still tanking through it, or getting mesmerized with the pics, or whatever, and that's why there are no comments; that, and people have been busy this weekend, what with work reports, or gaming. Anyway, I hope comments arise soon, hehe, or else I might not take the time to do such a blog update again.

So, the last 2 updates were about Cancun, but stuff has happened since then, as well as the Friday before... well, not much to mention about Friday before the trip. Saw 50 minutes of a 100 minute movie called the 3rd wheel, starring Luke Wilson, Ben Affleck and Denise Richards. I think it was pretty good, not my type of movie, but it's not bad. And no matter what people say, Denise Richards is pretty hot. People say she's not all that, and it's all media, but she is pretty good looking, and most movies portray her as such.

Uncle and cousins and cousin's friends came from Montreal on Friday, and we played games, they slept over (although we left early next morning), and then they housesat for a while, I think. Anyway, that's it about that Friday. Now let's fast forward to the days after the Cancun trip.

Well, it's been a long time, so chronological order might not be correct. Actually, there are a few reviews in this update, so order isn't important. First of all, is Elfen Lied, episode 1 which I saw on the Friday before the trip, and now I've seen up to episode 5, as that's all that's been released.

Elfen Lied... hmm... well, first let me say it's not David's type of anime. Well... it couuld be, but I'd say not, to be safe :P Okay, there's character development, starting with characters we know almost nothing about. The characters aren't weird, but they have weird quirks (except maybe the "main" guy, who's pretty normal), and it's pretty weird. It's intriguing, the character Yuka (or whatever her name is), and the mysterious stories behind her, and behind... that homeless person... And of course there's the cute, mysterious "Chii" (Chobits) type person, and her... weirdness... let's call it that.

And then there's the other part of the anime - the downright disturbing part, and also the downright violent parts, which make Kill Bill look like a walk in the park. Well, not quite, but close. Anyway, it's really... something. It's intriguing, as I said, with the character development, and then there's the other part. I'll continue watching it, since it is interesting.

David however, should not watch it. Maybe the intro, cuz it sounds nice :P I showed it to Ricky on Sunday, the first 2.5 episodes, he seemed to really like it. He's crazy in that way. I'll show it to you waterlooers :P

--------------

On the Sunday after the trip, we had friends come over. I don't remember who, so I'm guessing Wen, Ricky, Ray, Brose, Jia, and Rama... or something to that effect. It was fun, as usual. That's the day I was introduced to Doom 3.

Doom 3 is fun. It's scary. Atmospheric and scary. Okay, at the resolution I was running it at, it was a bit choppy, so not a solid 30 or 60 fps. But it was still pretty scary, with the sounds, and the lighting, and the fact that we can't shoot and have a flashlight at the same time. I recommend getting a dvd copy of it, but then you need a pretty beastly computer to run it well.

Anyway, that day, Jia stayed over, and we bought another wavebird I think, etc, fun... Umm... So that's what happened on Sunday, and on Monday as well (Jia). Lately, we've been playing more Tales of Symphonia. Well, we usually wait till we have at least 3 people, and it's usually myself, Duy, and Jia. Jia has been playing most of the game too, so yes, we do wait for Jia before we begin playing Tales. A 4th person isn't necessary, but it's fun, but it doesn't always have to be the same person. Read Duy's current blog entry for more info.

(long story short, playing the game multiplayer is more fun; although only Duy gets to move around on the world map, the battles are more fun in multiplayer, and chatting and discussing the game while we're playing is also fun; discussing where to go next, funny things about the story and the characters, and enjoying the story together as we figure it out, all that co-operative effort, now that's fun. Since it's a new experience for all of us (the story, that is), it's fun. Just like watching a movie together for the first time, and all surprised at the shocking ending or whatever.)

So, here comes our dilemma. When we get back to Waterloo, obviously, there will be no Jia. We could sometimes come back on weekends, but not sure if Jia will be back, so that will be hard to co-ordinate. So, the obvious thing to do is to play with someone else.

Anyway, so Alan has played the game once, near the beginning of the game. Then what does he do? If you know Alan, the answer is easy.

He FAQs it, and now he knows the entire story line. His reasoning? He wants to know the story line, and he will probably never play the game anyway. Apparently, he must've forgotten about September, October, November, ... ... March, and April. So anyway, we won't allow him to play with us anymore. All that 'discussing the story and characters and experiencing it for the first time' isn't possible with him anymore. It's no fun when something shocking happens (for example, if we found out Presea was really a Desian archangel), and we're all like FROM WHERE and Alan's like "oh yeah, I read about this. Can't wait till Regal turns into a dwarf. Should happen soon."

So, Wen's probably pretty busy, but he can play sometimes, but Jason can probably visit often and play all the time with us, so that's good. He can be our 3rd :) Wen can be our 4th :) Anyway, so Tales is pretty cool. The story's pretty good, graphics are superb (I really, really like the style), and the characters are growing on me... well, not too much the later ones, but oh well. Oh yeah, and Tales of Symphonia borrows a few references from Final Fantasy games, which is cool, but it also takes all the story from Hawk's game, Symphony of Two Worlds. They took pretty much all his story, except characters, so there goes that story.

----------

Monday night, Jia leaves, and Tuesday night, we meet Jia again and Jia, Hawk, Mike Powers, Duy, and I go to see AVP at a Cineplex Odeon in Brampton, where it was $5.49 to get in. Anyway, before we get to the movie, of course, well, we had to get there. How?

Mike Powers has a Subaru... WRX or something, I think that's what Hawk said. Manual transmission, blue, umm... my foot was still a bit crappy, yes, so I sat in the front with the leg room, while Jia, Hawk, and Duy got squished in the back. AHHHH!!! It was a pretty scary ride. Anyway, Mike has driven like this before, so it's not his first time, so I felt a tiny bit safer than most people would.

130 km/h on Erin Mills Pkwy, 180 km/h on the highway. I guess that about sums it up... It was fucking scary. Changing lanes all the time, like in a videogame, to get in front of everyone... really fast driving. It was really, scary. It sounds fun though, but really too scary. After the movie he didn't drive quite as fast, I guess more cops come out at night since it happens more often then, or something.

Anyway, so we get to the movie. It was nice and cheap, and it was starting in 5 minutes. Get into the theater, maybe 30 people there were. A nice big theater, with comfy chairs, like a real theater, but cheaper than usual. So, I expected this movie to be total crap. Ray gave it 5.5/10, and Rama calls it Grade A trash.

Anyway, it was better than I expected! That's not saying too much, but it is! It was somewhat funny at some points, with a lot of the audience laughing, and some parts were downright cheesy (when *spoiler* the predator teamed up with the human, and then gave her weapons from the alien, hahahaha). Anyway, it was a pretty *good* movie, yet not that good. I haven't seen any Aliens movies (except a bit of Resurrection) and no Predator movies (maybe the start of the first one), so maybe I'll have to see those, but Aliens are cool and Predators are pretty cool too.

FMA is cool. I have to mention that in almost every post. Series is almost done, gotta burn Ambrose some dvds, more on that later. Moving on.

I saw Starsky and Hutch yesterday, starring Derek Zoolander (Ben stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson). Anyway, since they're both from Zoolander, it's only fair (or wrong) to compare the two. Will Ferrell makes a cameo in this one as well. It's fair to make comparisons, since there are a lot of similarities between the two. The Walk-off in Zoolander can be compared to the Disco-dance-off in S&H. Umm... and stuff.

Overall, I like Zoolander better, much better. Starsky and Hutch wasn't too bad, and it was still funny, and there are some good action parts too. Characters aren't bad either. Also, this movie seems to have more sex appeal... pretty women everywhere. To think that a movie about models would have more pretty women, but this one had a bunch, including Amy Smart and Carmen Electra. oooh...

-----------------

Anyway, last weekend was pretty interesting, Friday August 27th until Sunday August 29th. Well, first of all, my original plan was to go to CN Anime on the Saturday. But then, nobody wanted to go, and it was gonna be a hassle, and it'll be expensive, so I decided not to go. Then I read that David was going to the ex on Saturday, and I thought, "hey, that'd be neat". Haven't been to The Ex for a few years, so I thought it'd be cool to go as a group of friends, play carnival games, visit the food building, have fun overall. So I got a bunch of maybe's from Brose, Ray, and a no from Jia, and Jason was busy with Work reports and Wen was busy on the Saturday.

So, that plan didn't work either. Lastly, on Thursday, mom tells me that they're (mom, dad, uncle, vinks, and other relatives) are going to Montreal for the weekend, to visit other relatives. They'll be gone from Friday morning, 5am, until Sunday night. Now, when teenagers get the house for themselves, only one thing goes through their minds: PARTY!!!

So, that's what we did, in essence. Well, Thursday, David came over for a bit.. Anyway, on Friday, my parents didn't leave till after lunch, but no matter. Ambrose dropped by in the morning, to pick us up to go have Dim Sum. Picked us up, went to Alan and picked him up, and drove to Jia's, and then to... Summit Garden. First it was gonna be Emerald, but Ray said it wouldn't be as good, so we decided on Summit Garden.

It was pretty good, nothing too amazing... we didn't get everything we wanted, but it was pretty inexpensive. Afterwards, we went home, and started the weekend. I don't remember everything that happened, but oh well. I remember playing a lot of Tales of Symphonia. Anyway, eventually Alan leaves, and eventually David comes over for a bit.

Saturday morning, Ricky comes at around 9, and Ray comes... umm... I don't remember. Oh yeah, for dinner Friday, we went to Loblaws and bought chicken, and we bought chips and drinks to last us the weekend. Two interesting honourable mentions are Jia's Jamaican-style Ginger Beer and my no-name Roasted Chicken potato chips.

The chips tasted like, regular chips, with some sort of chicken topping... like, as Ambrose explains it, it's the chicken on noodles or something... ehh... like Mr. Noodles, chicken flavour, or something. So it was like regular chips, with a bit of weird flavour, with MSG. So, those were pretty bad, but somehow we still managed to finish the bag.

The Ginger beer... wow, that was amazing. Amazing in a bad way. It's better than Sprite Ice, I'd say, and it was much better than Hawk's Kashmira drink. But it was a pretty funny experience. When we first tried it, Jia and I both laughed like crazy, as if we were drunk after sipping it. Apaprently, if you drink different amounts of it, you get different tastes. It was quite amazing. I'd probably buy 1 more bottle just to let Alan and the others try it. It's actually very interesting, and not a bad drink like Kashmira. Now THAT was disgusting. Water, spices!

So.. where was I? Ricky came over, etc. Wen decided he was busy, and Jason was work reporting, and Alan left because he had softball, so he left Friday night. Andy was a bum and decided not to show up, Ray came over later, and I had my friend Lachlan come over.

Umm... played smash, and Tales, and stuff... we also had a lot of d20 gaming, fought a bunch of ninjas, gained a lot of levels. Wen's gonna be confused the next time we play. We're so over leveled now, haha. My guy's still awesome, except for the fact that he dies quite often. Saturday night, we ate... umm... rice and stuff? Yes, rice and hotdogs and chicken. Ray, Lachlan, and I played UT2004 together, that was fun. UT2004 is awesome.

Umm, forget what happens, eventually Sunday comes. Ricky comes over again, but a bit later this time. We play more tales, I show Ricky Elfen Lied, etc, that was fun. Had Mac and cheese for breakfast again, with hotdogs this time, it was good. For dinner, we order 3-4-1 pizza again. Somehow, no matter how many people we have, 3 pizzas disappear very quickly. Pizza goood...

Eventually, David comes over. We play a bit of smash, and he says he has to leave at 10 or so, unless I tape something for him, in which case he can leave at 11. So I do tape it for him, but ya know what he does? For most of 10-11, he decides to read or something... so it's not really a rant, but I'm doing a favour for him, so he can stay here an extra hour, but he spends that extra hour doing something which he could've done anytime, anywhere... so that favour was pretty pointless. Instead of using a tape to tape him something, I could've let him go read at UTM, and it wouldn't've made a difference. So not really a rant, but a worthwhile observation.

Eventually, we bring Jia home and Ricky drives David home, I think. So that ends our weekend. Friday, Ambrose gets here around 10 AM, and Sunday, everyone leaves by 11:15 PM. So, 60 hours indeed. 60 beats Ambrose's 48. Hahaha. Since then was Monday, today, and nothing happened today.

------------------------

Anyway, so that's the end of that. People are going back to school soon, us Waterloo'ers have a bit more time, and Ambrose is heading for work on Sunday, to Ottawa. I have my g1 exit test soon, and my g1exit refresher lesson begins on Thursday - 90 minute lesson then, 90 minute lesson on the 11th, and a 90 minute lesson on the day of my test, the 16th. Ahhh... good thing my foot's working again.

Yeah, my foot's working again, for the most part. It's not completely healed from the pulling out of the spines, but it's getting there. Anyway, before everyone goes back to Univ or to work, I think we should have one last get-together... maybe on Thursday? Well, not tomorrow, and not wednesday, most likely. Thursday, Saturday, whatever's good. I gotta make anime dvds for Ray, and for Brose. FMA dvds for Brose, as well as a 3rd dvd with misc stuff would be nice. Etcetera, gotta do more stuff too.

So, lots of miscellaneous stuff to do. Speak to me, about stuff for the weekend or the final get-together and what not. Jia, up for another 10 hours of Symphonia? ;)
