Sunday Update - 2 of 2

Long update! I've broken the update into 2 parts, for easier reading and commenting. The first part, below, is more about movies (ID4 and Spiderman2) and other random thoughts, and this update is about this weekend and next weekend.

---------- THE WEEKEND IN A FEW PARAGRAPHS ---------

Thursday, Canada Day, was the day we went to see Spiderman 2. So, I think we went to play Tennis this morning, etc, and then Duy had to go pick up Jia. David was scheduled to come over for an hour or so at noon, but he never showed up. Anyway, eventually we get to Coliseum and Ambrose, Wen, and Ricky were already there, and soon Ray came too.

Anyway, my spiderman review can be read below. So, after the movie, David joined us at Coliseum, in hopes of heading to Mandarin, waiting for 2 hours, and then getting in for some free food. (Un)Fortunately, it was decided that we weren't gonna go, not worth it. Thus, Ambrose, Wen, and Ray went home, David went somewhere off on his own and was gonna come over later, and Jia, Duy, Ricky, and I went to the Chase to that Pho place. Overall it was a good meal, mango shake was good, meal was well priced.

Went back to our place, had fun, etc. Ricky played a bunch of CSI, David started playing Smash, so that's cool. Etcetera, etcetera. Eventually, Jia went home.

Friday went to Jia's house. Ambrose gave us a ride, Vinks came with us, and Ray joined us later. We ate most of his cherries. Had chicken wings and burgers and stuff. It was fun. Jia spent the night with us at our house, so he didn't need a ride the next day for the d20 game.

Saturday morning. Damn, it's 11:07 PM now, so I'll head to bed in 15 minutes, gotta type this fast. Sat morning, played tennis with jia, he's not so good. Then, later, it was time for the d20 game.

Unfortunately, at the last minute, Alan informed us that he promised to play Softball at 4:30, and so he totally ninjaed us out of a game. Ray and Jason couldn't come, David dropped from the game, and Alan ninjaed us out of a game. He had all the characters, and I can't do combat by myself. I guess I could've done some of the mission, but it really wasn't gonna go anywhere if Alan wasn't here. It was pretty complicated, so I couldn't do it alone.

So, there was no d20 game yesterday. Besides, for the first part, Ricky was playing a lot of CSI with Ambrose and Wen watching, and Duy and Jia were playing d2x, so they were keeping themselves busy. We played some settlers, eventually David joined us, had dinner, watched csi, played smash, etc.

Next d20 game? Early August, say, 2nd weekend. That'll be the 2nd last game, so I gotta compress the story or take out some "walking around in the city" time. So I'll have to change things around... maybe change this next mission, I dunno. Anyway, Alan not being here really screwed up the game, so that sucked ass. Maybe he'll be here next August game, so only time will tell.

Sunday... well, nothing really important, I guess.

------------------ NEXT WEEKEND ------

Next weekend is the anime-a-thon! YAY! I think? Alright, so this is how it is. Alan is busy, camping trip. Ray is busy, test. Ambrose is busy, family from afar coming. Or something. Jason is busy, driving lessons.

Jia, myself, Duy, Ricky will be there, Isaque maybe, my friend Jody, and other people may come. So far, 5 people have voted on schedules, and here are the voting results thus far:

Funny and FMA-Funny are winning with 17 and 15 votes respectively, so I will probably choose Funny with a tiny bit of FMA thrown in, to please both parties. The next highest is something with 5 points, so chances are the schedule will be FMA-Funny or Funny, or a hybrid between them. The loser right now is GTO/Initial D with -8 points.

So that's the end of the update... or is it?

-------------------- SMASH TIP OF THE DAY: TIMING -----------

The smash tip of the day deals with timing. I explained this to David the other day, as he kept asking questions like "why would I standing dodge instead of roll, if rolling is safer?"

Well, one of my answers involve timing. All actions require a certain amount of time - time to perform it, time before a move 'hits', recovery time afterwards, etc. - so sometimes, you choose your moves based on the time - time you have to spare, time it takes, etc.

So, standing dodge takes less time than roll, which means your opponent would have less recovery time after missing with an attack.

And in the specific case of a roll and a standing dodge, there's the issue with location. Roll changes your location, or position, or direction that you're facing, which standing dodge keeps everything constant. So depending on what I want to do next, I choose the right action.

Well, it's time for bed. Good night!
