president? or guy that lives by himself?

Yup, another update. Anyway, today Ricky had a gathering at his house, to do some improv d20 stuff. Ricky hadn't GMed before (I think), so he just wanted to have a practice improv session. After trying to convince our parents to let us go, it seemed that we wouldn't be able to make it, but after a little discussion, well, long story short, we were able to come. And come we did.

We showed up a bit after 2, and Wen was already there. We brought d20 books, but no dice since we forgot them, and I brought full metal alchemist and full metal panic fumoffu, and we brought our magic cards. First, we started doing some character creation; well, Ricky went upstairs to print out some stuff, so Duy and I (and Wen) decided to start a game of magic, using my Fifth dawn deck, Duy's onslaught draft deck I think, and Duy's fifth dawn deck. (for some reason, I have to say Fifth Dawn rather than 5th dawn... it just looks different).

Anyway, shortly after beginning, Ricky came back, so Wen decided to start character creation so he dropped from the game. On my last turn I did something stupid instead of killing Duy, so the next turn Duy managed to deal enough damage to me to finish me off. But it was a close game.

So then comes the d20 game. We started character creation around 3:00-3:15, and we were ready to play around 4:00. During that time, David called, so I thought he was gonna come over and then we can play magic, and after Wen leaves we can watch more Full Metal. Unfortunately, David decided not to come, since the gathering was focused on d20, and David isn't a d20 person. Anyway...

------------------- D 2 0 --------------------------

This time I decided to have a strong melee person, that would use his own fists. Thor Svensen was a black haired, brown-skinned, golden eyed man (brown-skinned comes from people from Ishbal, gold eyes came from Edward Elric). For some reason, the pureness of fighting with fists felt really good. I have no idea why... there's guns, there's swords... and for some reason it felt good to have no weapon.

... Probably... psychologically... I'm not holding anything in my hands (not even brass knuckles), so I'm free to do more... so I feel so free. Anyway, I digress. The d20 session went pretty well. Our mission, given to us by an evil politician, was to assassinate the president (of Dile... the country's name. City's name is Crock....), so we did some research, checked out the hotel she was gonna be staying in... then decided to assassinate the evil politician instead... that was interesting... So that was quite fun.

Anyway, it was around 6:00 now. Wen decided to leave. The 3 of us talked for a bit, about future missions... One of the missions can be a quasi-megaman type mission; well, no, the mission is to destroy 3 loose cyborgs, but we decided that they might be like megaman, where you can use one's weapon against another. Then the conversation got super funny (it's one of those things where it would be much funnier if you were there and laughing with us, and thus doesn't sound as good in a blog) - we decided what the cyborgs should be.

One would be amazingly strong, yet not very wise. Another cyborg might be very fast, and have great drive skill for no reason at all. The 3rd robot has amazing bluff abilities; as well as diplomacy, and all other skills. That robot will be able to talk you out of attacking it and maybe fight your own teammates.

And the megaman thing? Well, the fast would be good against the strong, since the strong can't hit it. The smart might be good against the fast, and bluff him into, I dunno, destroying itself or whatever. And Strong vs Smart? Well, the conversation would be something like:

Smart: "No, you're doing the wrong thing. Don't attack me."
Strong: "DOES NOT COMPUTE." *BAM*

:) So we laughed for a while then. I'm sure none of you laughed a lot, but that's okay.

---------------- M a g i c ---------------

Anyway, a bit after that, Ricky did a few chores while I looked through Ricky's old cards, which at the end of the day, I took since he didn't want them anymore. At 7:00, we started a game of magic. Once again, same decks; Duy was using his Onslaught draft deck, Ricky using Duy's Fifth dawn Draft deck, and I'm using mine. Too bad David wasn't there, or else we could've had a 2v2 game, since 3ffa games sometimes become 2v1s and that's no good. Luckily...

Well, first we were all tied, so I drew first blood and hit Duy with a flying Chromescale Drake. Every now and then Duy would bug me by trying to counter some of my stuff. First of all, let me say that Coretapper + Pentad Prism is pretty amazingly useful. Anyway, continuing on, eventually I get a Bringer of the Black Dawn out, thanks to Coretapper + Pentad Prism. Thanks to Bringer of the Black dawn, eventually I got out the Broodstar. Later I brought out the Mycosynth Golem and the Clockwork Dragon out on the same turn. Anyway, so I had a bunch of flying creatures and the cranial plating, and eventually I killed Ricky and the turn after I killed Duy... man, I really like this deck.

Anyway, I said I wouldn't modify my deck for a while, but I will just replace one card with the Darksteel Reactor. Coretapper and Power Conduit work pretty awesomely with the Reactor, and Bringer of the Blackdawn helps a lot too. But this deck is pretty cool already. Could use a few changes, but it's great.

Anyway, I'd like to thank Alan due to half-helping me make my deck. He told me, within a 40 card deck, there should be approximately 16 lands, 14 creatures, and 10 other cards. So I followed his guidelines, and that's probably why my deck works pretty well. Before I didn't know how to construct a deck, so my other draft decks failed. Also from experience, I need to produce mana faster, and I need a bunch of smaller creatures as well, so I can bring out a few blockers at the beginning, or mana producers or what not.

So anyway, Alan's blog says that he had to go with a 60 card deck, but I went for throwing a lot of stuff and just sticking to a higher-probability 40 card deck. So I'll just modify this deck a bit, leave it at 40 cards though, since it works well.

So Magic cards... I'm addicted again :P Not really though. I won't be a casual spender and spend something every week.. I'll probably just buy a bunch every 3 months or so... so next time I go to untouchables I'll probably buy 6 boosters, 3 darksteel and 3 fifth dawn most likely. Well, it's not too expensive... Vinks' pokemon cards each cost him 55 cents, while a magic card is less than a quarter. So I don't feel bad at all buying 90 cards for $22...

------------- full metal alchemist ------------

Anyway, just before 8, we finished the game, and dinner was ready. Spaghetti! Yay! Groundbeef, a bit thinner sauce, onions, and carrots. It was a good meal. Simpsons wasn't on and Malcolm was on instead, etc, long story short, eventually it was 8:15 and we started watching Full Metal Alchemist, ep 16-17.

Duy and Ricky really enjoyed the episodes. They were pretty funny. David would enjoy these episodes as well. But I digress. So anyway, Ricky now has up to ep 25 on his computer; so, within a week or so:

Ricky would've seen eps 1-25. Jason 1-40. Myself, 1-40 or 41. Isaque 1-35. Alan 1-29. Jia 1-31. Duy, 1-17, unless I make him watch more, probably to at least 19 or 25. David, 1-14, not including 1,2,4,8, and 9. And last but not least, Wen, 1-2. Anyway, Ricky would enjoy the rest of the few episodes. Duy probably enjoys watching in a group better, but he can still enjoy it by himself. And David would probably enjoy the episodes better watching by himself, so he can watch them at his leisure and spread the time between episodes and what not, and ponder about episodes here and there.

And then there's Ray, who's seen 0, and Ambrose, who's seen 0. By October, I guess Ambrose would've seen 1-44 or so... and I'll burn Ray a dvd too, so eventually everyone would've seen up to 25, and then they'll want to see more..

---------------- u p c o m i n g      e v e n t s ------------

Anyway, so that ends that part. Now some news about the upcoming weeks.

Next weekend is the long weekend, where we are going camping. Well, not the same as last time, but I think my parents found this Vietnamese group, like UWVSA, but just UVSA, which do some camping trips every summer, so my parents want us (and my uncle) to register and we'll go with them, maybe make some new friends, something like that.

According to my mom, she says the camping trip is Friday to Sunday, which means Monday is still open for any plans. So we'll do something then :)

Saturday August 7th is the *2nd last* D20 game. Alan is busy on the 14th, so he should be unbusy on the 7th, so that's good. Unfortunately, I think Ray might have another test or so, and Ambrose will be knee-deep in finals. But it'll be okay... yeah. It will have to work.

So, our California vacation was postponed, and maybe changed. Maybe it's not california now, but instead some Cruise vacation, to a hot place - originally planned for Miami, it might be some Mexico-place, maybe the Yucatan Peninsula or whatever. Anyway, that vacation is planned for Saturday August 14th until Saturday August 21st. So that'll eat up 2 saturday's, but maybe the sunday after is free for something.

Then, there's one more weekend at the end of August, starting with Saturday the 27th. It's getting awfully close to moving back to school, but we'll manage. Anyway, my friend Amy (Andy's friend Amy) suggests I should go to CN Anime, and I kinda want to. Gotta blow a few hundred bucks on anime that'll keep me occupied during the year ;) Nah, not really, but I should go for fun. And Amy will be cosplaying, so I should go see her. Jia says he'll come, but I should invite more people to make the party bigger. Bigger = more fun. I agree.

Anyway... so that's it. Next Monday, long weekend, wanna do something? I think Ricky's having a BBQ, maybe we can go to that. Wanna play more magic? I think I do ;) after I buy some more boosters. Or we can do some of that drafting thing. Drafting is pretty cheap when it doesn't involve starters. But I'll buy my own boosters too. I can't wait :)
