Full Metal Anime-a-thon
:)
The anime-a-thon was this weekend. It was fun.
Was it successful? In one word, yes.
Was it what I expected? Pretty much.
Did everyone have fun? Yes.
Was the proposed schedule followed? In one word, sorta. But technically, no. More on that later.
Did anyone laugh? Yes. Of course.
Did anyone cry? If by cry you mean tears, then yes. (that includes me ^_^)
Did anyone stop an episode half-way because they didn't like it? yes
Did anyone play D2x ALL the time? no. Not ALL the time :P
Alright, enough of the questions. First, I'll go through what we did this weekend, and then I'll do a review/analysis/thought kinda thing about the anime-a-thon, and I'll conclude with any news for today. It looks like a long entry, but that's because of the schedule thing.
(listening to "Ask DNA", various FMA tracks, and various OCRemix tracks)
----------------------
-----------------SATURDAY-------------
At 12:30, Duy and I went to the other house to have lunch; took both cars over, so Duy and I were done first, so went back home at 1:05. Duy then went to pick up Jia, and I proceeded to burn Wen's OCRemix-mp3-dvd, and I took a shower. Eventually I finish and I hook up my computer to the tv.
About 1:35-1:40, Andy drops by. A few minutes later Duy and Jia get here - rejected by Hawk, who says he'll come on Sunday. Watched a few videogame clips, funny commercials and SSB stuff, and then the show starts at 2:00.
The schedule says Full Metal Alchemist 1-7; I've seen 1-37, Andy has seen 1-26 or so, Jia has seen probably 1-6, Duy has seen 1-2. Ricky says he was gonna be late, around 3:30-4:30, so I think we should wait for him. Wen also says he might be coming in the evening, so I'm not sure if we can wait for him. David said he was feeling ill or something, so he might not show up. And Jody hasn't seen it, he should be coming soon, so why not wait till Jody and Ricky?
So, we proceeded to find something else to watch... we watched 5 minutes of an anime called Legendz, which seemed really queer, so Jia voted to cancel out. So then we watched an episode of Samurai 7. After that, we voted to might as well watch episode 2, so we did that. Apparently Duy didn't watch episode 2.
Review? Samurai 7 is okay. It's a story about peasants needing samurai's help to stop (giant robot)-bandits from stealing all their food and belongings. It's probably kinda interesting, but I don't really feel any attachment to any characters or their cause/need/troubles, so I'll probably see another 1-2 episodes and see if it's worthwhile.
At 3:00, we took a 30 minute break. I put a few things on during the break, nobody really paid attention to them. At 3:15, Jody showed up.
At 3:30, we proceeded to watch Full Metal Panic Fumoffu? - and Ricky joined us around 3:06. We watched episode 1 (1-2) and... the one labelled (6-7), or the "Pony" episode. Funny stuff.
From 4:20-4:30 we took a 10 minute break, where Jody watched Panda-z 3 and 2.
At 4:30, I decided we had enough *new* people to warrant watching Full Metal Alchemist. I think Jia joined us too, or maybe he joined in after ep 2, when Duy joined in. Anyway, we started watching it, and people loved it, and kept pushing on for more episodes. So, we watched the first 5 episodes, until 6:20.
At 6:20, we took a 40 minute break until dinner break at 7:00 :) 3-4-1 Pizza again, almost same toppings as last time, which was great. Nice and cheap and tasty.
Well, I think at around 6:25, I got Ricky and Andy to endure 70% of Bobobo2. Then they took it into their own hands and closed media player. Jody on the other hand loved it, so I will get him to see more. At 6:50, we started to watch Gunslinger Girl 1. Then the food came at 7, so we decided to pause on Gunslinger Girl.
During dinner break, I put on all my anime previews and Jody saw most of them, and we watched a few too, starting with the Cutey Honey Live music video, which is pretty good. Between 7:25 and 7:40, I took a nap :)
At 7:45, we interrupt the previews and watched the rest of Gunslinger Girl 1. Oh, around this time I think Jason showed up. I remember it was during Pizza time or so..
At 8:00, we continued to watch Full Metal Alchemist 6-9. At 10:00, we watched the Azumanga very short movie. Out of all of us, only Andy hasn't seen any Azumanga Daioh, so he had to see something. I guess it wasn't great to start with the movie, but it's okay.
Shortly after, Ricky and Jason went home, and then we saw Gunslinger Girl 2. From 10:25 till 11:00 was mostly break time - showed video clips and finished Bobobo 2, and Jody watched Dogtato-kun 1.
At 11:00, Andy was still here, so was Jody. Duy and Jia were d2xing, so anyway, we watched Azumanga episode 1.
At 11:15, the doorbell rings. Jody's dad? no... Andy's dad? Hope not, cuz we're still in the middle of Azumanga..
Well, no surprise. It's David.
At 11:50, we're done watching Azumanga episode 2. Eventually Andy goes home, so now here's David and Jody.
David and Jody. And myself. All 3 of us like Bobobo. Can't miss an opportunity like that, eh? So we proceeded to watch Bobobo episode 1. Then we took a 30 minute break, Jody went home, and then we played some magic and stuff, and I went to bed around 2:00.
-----------------SUNDAY-------------
Etcetera, went to bed, woke up eventually. Had breakfast stuffs, etc., and eventually Ricky came back, and at 9:55 am, watched FMA 3 with David. Since my plan was to finish at least 15 episodes of FMA by today, David had some catching up to do; watching 9 episodes in the morning is a bit unreasonable, so I handpicked 4 episodes for him to watch; 3, 5, 6, and 7. At 10:30, David went for a 10 minute walk to reflect on the episode (3). That's a good sign :) Hope he doesn't do that for all the episodes.
By 1:30 or so, David has seen eps 3, 5, 6, and 7. FMA seems to be pretty emotional for David (and everyone, I guess? but mostly for David), but he can post about that himself, I won't put words in his mouth or whatever.
Hot dogs for lunch.
By 3:05, we (myself, Jia, Duy, David, and Ricky) have seen eps 10, 11, and 12. Jody couldn't come back because he doesn't have a ride, Isaque apparently copped out and Wen just didn't come. Ray did come though, but only to drop of SSB. Which means we win :)
Then, I stopped some of the journaling. Eventually we watched Sensei No Ojikan 1, and then there was a vote for Sensei No Ojikan 2. There was some SSBM going on... kinda. We didn't play it much, we just watched Duy play event matches.
KFC for dinner.
By 8:25, we've seen FMA eps 13, 14, and 15. Well, David didn't see ep 15. Somewhere after 14, his glasses fell apart, and he says he's starting to get tired and losing focus and all that. When his glasses were fixed, dinner came, so we decided to postpone it until after dinner. Then, during dinner, David decided to take a nap.
I thought he was taking a nap because he was tired, and then when he wakes up, we can watch FMA 15 cuz he's all rested. The rest of the group interpreted he didn't want to watch FMA 15 today, so then we saw it without him.
After FMA 15 was done, David was awake, so we played some Smashy smashy... teams, Duy and David vs Jia and I, slow motion a bunch, then regular and lightning for a few games.
Then Duy had the wonderful task of driving everyone home. I came along for the ride, and we talked about... stuff on the way. Some d2x, some... stuff about cars that can standing dodge and stuff... ...
So that pretty much ends sunday.
Accomplishments (things we've seen):
Sensei No Ojikan 1-2
Dogtato Kun 1-2
Bobobo 1-2
Samurai 7 1-2
2 episodes of Full Metal Panic Fumoffu; after episode (6-7), the subtitles get really small in the later files, so it was much harder to watch them, so we copped out of watching more.
Azumanga Daioh 1-2
Megaman X4 speed run
Full Metal Alchemist 1-15
----------------------- Analysis/Review Stuff -----------------------------
Thanks to the above, the topic now seems long. Anyway, a short review of some animes and the anime-a-thon.
The anime-a-thon was splendid. No smashy smashy distractions, not counting the end after FMA 15, when the anime-a-thon was unofficially over. Control over anime was shared - well, it's more like how an anime-a-thon should be; I force-show an episode of 2, and then the group decides to watch more because it's a good anime. That's how it was for all of the anime-a-thon, so that worked out well. Except Bobobo 2, but at least someone got enjoyment out of it, so that's good.
I was in control of breaks. I set breaks as I see they're needed, and people used them and when they were over, they came back to watch anime. That includes Jia and Duy, so that's good. No constant d2xing or anything.. However, during the 2nd day, I lost some of the control of breaks to David, with his 'demands'; for example, towards the end of a break he grabs some food, and then he says he can't watch anime and eat at the same time. Next time I won't be as lenient... well, it depends what the anime is. FMA is one of those special cases ^^
Full Metal Alchemist... sweet. Everyone enjoyed it. Duy, Jia, myself, Andy, Jason, Ricky, Jody, and David. Everyone enjoyed it - funny parts, emotional crying parts, tough moments, etc - FMA has it all. So those who haven't seen it - do yourself a favour and watch it. Watch, say, the first 7 episodes, or you can take David's crash course and just try for eps 3, 5, 6, 7. 5 isn't necessary, but it's there for good measure.
And now Andy has seen episode 2 of Azumanga Daioh, so if he comes with us to Mikey's, he'll understand whenever we split apart chopsticks and then show everyone that we did it. :)
So... that's it. We're almost done Monday's blog post. About another 3 paragraphs, and then you can go do something else :)
------------------- M O N D A Y -_- S T U F F I E S ------------------
Strongbad's site (or should I say, Homestar Runner's site?) updated. Wow it's a monday, what a coincidence. Well, if you've been waiting for another Teen Girl Squad, then today's your lucky day. I also sooo recommend Kid's Book... even if you don't like Strong Bad E-mails, I still recommend you go to the site, check what's new (top right corner, should say something about "decemberween in July"), click on that, click on Kid's book, and enjoy it. As for everyone else who visits the site regularly, I'm sure you'll click on everything, except maybe the puppet thing, cuz I don't enjoy that..
Anyway, the other day I saw 45 minutes of Gigli, which was pretty bad. Today, I watched everything except the first 30 minutes, and someodd 10 minutes in the middle, of Daredevil, the other bad Affleck movie. Well, at least one of the other most recent bad affleck movies. Paycheck was alright though. Not great.
Daredevil... hearing how bad it was, I must say it was... I was almost gonna say it was better than I expected, and it probably is, but not by much. First, there's Ben - I don't feel for the character, even if you say he's blind. Cuz he doesn't act blind - he has no trouble in real life, he has no trouble as a hero. Well, he does, but because he's blind... It's like he was born with 0 eyes and 4 ears or something.
Umm... Combat looks pretty bad. Colin Ferrel's character was crazy, yet so cheesy and queer. Combat with the strings looks fake... story's no good... Jennifer Garder or whatever her name is, she's pretty hot, but the movie's still bad. So, I say, don't watch the movie, unless you're like us, who might want to see a movie just to see whyy it's so bad.
So it was pretty bad.
The end.
