6 Darksteel, 6 Fifth Dawn... my oh my...

Okay! Yesterday's update sure fetched a lot of comments, which is quite surprising. Today's update is 3 paragraphs about what happened today, and the rest is about another thing that happened today.

Today, we had a trainer appt as usual. We came home, did a few chores and other errands that needed to be done; Canada students loan centres were contacted, Camp this weekened was registered for, the Rogers Modem update thing was almost done, and I booked my G1 exit Road test. Whee, again, hopefully I'll pass. It's a YoungDrivers refresher course, which is $300 which includes two 90-minute lessons, and a 90 minute lesson on the day of the test. The $300 includes the test, so that's good. First 90 minutes will be September 2nd, so I'm probably still not in Waterloo then, 2nd lesson is the saturday afterwards, and then the test is the Thursday afterwards. I have no classes on Thursdays, so that's good.

After that, I have 12 months left before my g1 expires... ugh... hopefully I'll pass my G, and then everything will be fine. Otherwise... ugh... oh well. Later we went shopping, and went to Loblaws, bought chicken dinner, etc, went home. We didn't buy cake (Sister's birthday which was last Friday), so we (Dad and I, cuz if Dad goes by himself, he'll probably choose Strawberry shortcake) went back to Loblaws, picked up a delicious cheesecake and some bread, and then went to go pay.

We had 2 items, but the express lane was really long. All other lines were pretty long too, since it was about 7:00 pm now. So we tried out the 'do-it-yourself' line. It was pretty fast. Like, if you were first-in-line at the express line, that would've been faster, but this was good too. So, that's that. So that ends the regular update for this entry.

---------------- M A G I C --------------------

So, we went shopping today, Duy and I. One stop was Untouchables. I mentioned before how I became half-addicted to Magic again, so I had to buy some cards. I was thinking, I'd spend $22 on 6 boosters, or 90 cards. Well, it took a long time to get to untouchables, and then there's the thing where when you enter the store, you end up buying more than you planned to. And that's what happened.

First, bought 3 darksteel and 3 fifthdawn boosters. I really like some of the rares in Darksteel, such as another Reactor, or the Forge, or something cool like that, so I immediately bought another 3 darksteel boosters. We went back to the car, and looked at the fifth dawn boosters, and... well, it was pretty disappointing. Besides, we forgot to buy boxes for myself and Vinks, so we went back in, and bought 3 50c boxes and 2 $1 boxes, and another 3 fifth dawn boosters.

Went back to the car, opened the 3 fifth dawn boosters, and was disappointed once again. No Bringer of Dawns, no cool Affinity things... there were a few good cards of course, but overall the 6 fifth dawn boosters were pretty disappointing. So, Duy started driving to Loblaws, and I decided to look at the 6 Darksteel Boosters.

The Darksteel boosters were a lot more awesome than the Fifth dawn boosters. The fifth dawn boosters were so disappointing, I'll probably won't buy more until we draft them. The darksteel boosters had some neat cards, including some cards that I can use in my decks. So in total, I have 180 cards, 60 of which are useable in my current deck, so that's a lot of choice. And there are some other great red/white/green cards too of course.

Anyway, even after getting so many cards and spending $44, I would still love to draft cards. Why? Well, first of all, for the price of say, 3 boosters, I would still get 45 cards, but more of them will be cards I want. Of course, for each booster we draft, I'd probably take the rare first even if I don't like it so much. Just cuz it's rare, ya know? Or maybe a great uncommon would be good too.

Then there's the added enjoyment... one great joy comes from opening a booster and seeing what cards you get, and hoping they're good, useful cards. In the draft scenario, technically, you're opening and you get to look at more boosters, as many as there are people. Of course, you won't get to see the rare of the 2nd booster, or the rare and an uncommon in the 3rd booster, but it's still much more enjoyable.

Anyway, onto the cards. Of course, within the 12 boosters, there were 12 rares, which were:

01. Joiner Adept
02. All Sun's Dawn (holo)
03. Trinisphere
04. Spectral Shift
05. Plunge into Darkness
06. Moriok Rigger
07. Pulse of the Dross
08. Heart Seeker
09. Roar of Reclamation
10. Arcbound Reclaimer
11. Arcbound Ravager
12. And last but not least, Eater of Days :P

I guess that's pretty good - 2 greens, 1 white, no reds, and the rest of the colours are useable in my current deck. Although I have many ways to produce any coloured mana, but oh well.

Other Highlights/Honourable mentions include 3 Myr Servitors - I just need a 4th until they become really useful... Moriok Rigger, Spawning Pit (which I got), Arcbound Ravager... the list goes on.

Also got another Core Tapper :) That's definately going into my deck, as well as the darksteel reactor now. Maybe I'll increase it to 60 cards so it'll be legal in more cases now.

And last but not least, a Darksteel Gargoyle :). I need a silent arbiter, which would help keep me alive as my Darksteel Reactor wins for me... I saw one at Untouchables for $5, so maybe I'll buy it, or if someone can trade it to me or sell it for cheaper that'd be great. I don't really want to buy it for $5, cuz that's like, going against a concept of mine where I shouldn't pay too much money to play magic... but it's a useful card as people have seen. Maybe I'll make an exception for the abiter, since I won't be buying another fifth dawn booster until a draft..

Of course, I got some other cards as well, but I'll keep them a secret, maybe they can surprise you in a future game... we'll see. Anyway, that's it for now. Alan can probably tell you what all these cards do, or you can ask me, or you can check out EssentialMagic.com . Anyway, hope to play a game with you (I'm talking to my entire Blog audience, not just Alan) sometime... maybe Wednesday? We'll see. Bring cards so I can trade. If you have the arbiter, Bring it!! I want it!!
