next d20 game and nintendo

I passed PM340! I didn't check Quest (Uwaterloo's scheduling/student system thingamajigy) until yesterday to check my enrollment appt, and what'd'ya know, I passed Number Theory. I thought I would fail it, but I did pass. Let's just say it's between 50 and 55...

Anyway, a few days have passed since I posted a 'journal' update, but I'm not sure how many people really read those updates, so I'll do a quick recap.

Well... my old house just got a lot emptier. My grandma and grandpa (dad's parents) have moved back to Vietnam for half a year. So, for the past week, we've had relatives over (dad's siblings and friends) and we've done a lot of eating out, or eating bbqs here. Not sure how healthy that is for our new fitness program, but oh well.

I've been watching too much tv lately. I can watch tv on my computer now, and since I have enough hard drive space and dvd burner, I find myself recording or taking pictures of too many random things. Sometimes I'm just channel surfing to find something to record :P Hehe.

Had friends over on Sunday. Most of you were there, so I don't really need to recap about what happened. Maybe I'll post opinions of what happened, if applicable, later. But first I need to go over some complications with the d20 game scheduling.

-------------

The next scheduled game was for this Saturday, the 5th, since the last game was 2 weeks before this one, and the first was 2 weeks before that one. However, Ricky can't make it to this one (so we're not holding it at his house), and Raymond can't make it either. As well, Alan says he can only stay till 6, so that's not so good. So the best course of action is to move it to the next Saturday.

But today arose another "problem". Christa and Ching are leaving for Australia for half a year at the end of June, and it's only natural for them to hold a farewell party. So I talked to Christa today, and the date is set: The party will be Saturday, June 12th, which is a week from this Saturday. And I HAVE to come to that party, and David will be there too, so we can't really have the d20 game that day. The party is in the evening, but I'm sure there's lots to do and the game won't finish early.

So what to do? Massive postpwnage to Saturday June 19th? A Sunday game? Although Sunday games must start somewhat earlier.. wait, no they don't... it's not like they go till 11... although Ambrose must go back to the 'Loo. I guess they should start earlier. Then again, Ricky and Ray have assignments, which is why they can't do Saturday, so they most likely can't do Sunday either, unless we're talking Sunday the 13th.

Or we can keep it as is, if enough people show up. Without Ricky and Ray, there are DN/DN/AC/WZ and possibly JY as players, and we have to start early so Alan doesn't leave me too early :P . It'll be nice if none of my characters got tasered this time :P However, the engineer dude might be helpful later on in the mission...

I'll post a recap of mission 2 later, so Ambrose and David can understand what's happening. Oh yes Ambrose, everyone can level to level 5 now, no matter how much of the game they've played. You might want to hear what happened in mission 2, and what is about to happen in mission 3, before you level up, if it'll help.

Anyway, a response and followup to my previous discussion post - I was asking the question because I was going to buy something which falls close to those categories. Those were just analogies... I'm not really buying an xbox or a dreamcast keyboard. But it's close.

I went to futureshop today, and I decided I'm going to spend lots of cash in June, not too much in July and August. I restocked on DVD+R's and CD-Rs, and earphones so I can listen to music or whatever while not bugging Duy too much. I also wanted another memory card but it was too expensive. Then there are also a few other things I wanted, but it wasn't there.

I wanted something that falls between option 3 (Xbox to play more games) and option 4 (Keyboard to better play Typing of the dead). It's option 3.5, because it does some of option 3 and some of option 4 - coincidentally, it's almost the average price between option 3 ($200) and option 4 ($30).

So what is this product? Well, Futureshop sorta had it, but it didn't, so I ordered it from Futureshop.ca. Like the dreamcast keyboard and xbox, it might be an unwise purchase, but I felt the need to try it... spending a lot of money on something with little use, but with the use it does have, there's more joy. At least, I think there is.

Anyway, I look around, and I noticed we had a platinum wavebird, black cube controllers, black n64 controllers, blackish n64, and blue n64 controllers. None of our nintendo products (except for pokemon red that we "borrowed" from Greg Day) were red. So, I thought it was time for a nice, sexy, flame-red product. So I only wanted the red one.

A while ago, I forget if I mentioned it on my blog or just my boards or neither, but I really wanted Zelda: 4 Swords for Gamecube. It's coming out June 7th. It looks fun in single player, but multiplayer is where it's at. But it has the crappy system like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, where in multiplayer, each person needs to have their own GBA.

So I gave in to Nintendo's greedy money-making scheme. In a few days, Futureshop will send me a red Game Boy Advance SP. Yeah, some of you may be asking "WHY BAO WHY???" and I might be asking that too, but we'll just have to wait and see.

It was on sale, so it was $120 instead of $140. Average of option 3 and 4 is $115. We already have a GBA, so it doesn't really open up a door to many new games, so it's not too much like option 3. But now we can play multiplayer link-cable games, GBA linked to GBA, so it opened that door. Also, we're now more enticed to buy Crystal Chronicles and other future games involving multiple GBAs for maximum enjoyment. It's like option 4 because technically it's a controller for a game.

Then there's the small added bonus where we can have one SP here for Vinh to play with, and I can bring an SP to 'Loo and play with it there.

And now that I've bought an SP, I thought it'd be nice to buy some games for it. So I also ordered Mario vs Donkey Kong, although I hear it's just okay. I'm also in the mood for some sidescrolling games, like Megaman Zero 2.

Smash tip of the day: C-Stick smash is pretty fast. Charge smashes are also good. If you don't use the C-stick, good for you. But I do, and for the simplicity and no delay at all, I encourage those that still use C-stick, continue using it, but vary your attacks. If your opponent knows you use c-stick smashes all the time, they can easily standing-dodge your smashes. So, mix it up a bit. Sometimes use c-stick smahes, sometimes charge your smashes just enough to hit Duy after he standing-dodges it.

Smash fun of the day: Alan! If you use a character (such as Dörf) that can meteor, do it! Have fun! Don't go boring playing, just have fun and try meteörizing. Also go overzealous with Falcon.
