parties, cake, problems fixed, and... stuff.
First things first, there were a few computer problems I was gonna post about, but they have been fixed. One was a codec problem, the other was a really weird problem which my dad fixed in about 2 minutes, by trying to "share" the folder... and then it all of a sudden worked. so... that's weird. yeah.
Secondly, I want to rant about something that annoys me. There are several character traits which I dislike, but one of my least favourite is selfishness. That is, people who do not respect the feelings of others - or they do not take them into considerations. They selfishly do an action which benefits themselves and unbenefits everyone else.
Duy did that the other day. It was 6:57 pm, and it was time to go back home and have dinner. Dinner was in the process of being made at home (at the other house), and... I wanted to watch wheel of fortune. Well, I'm sure Vinh and parents did too... although I'm not fanatical about wheel of fortune (so it doesn't really matter), but I still like to use it in my example. So, at 6:57, Duy was playing FFXI, so he says he'll be done in 5 minutes. That's understandable, because it takes maybe 2 minutes to finish whatever battle you're in, a few minutes to socialize with everyone, tell them "bye", and then 30-60 seconds to logout.
6:57+5 = 7:02. NOT 7:23. So, dinner was already made, everyone back home was waiting for us, everyone here was waiting for Duy, wheel of fortune was missed, and the only one who benefited at all was Duy, and everyone else unbenefited.
That's the end of my rant. For now... this selfishness thing doesn't apply to just Duy, or just that one time. It happens a lot more often with other people...
(I'm not selfish... I'm just an opportunist ;) )
The other day I was browsing IMDB, I forget why, and eventually I found myself at a page listing all the movies scheduled for release in 2004. It was at some url which ended in /2004/ , so I was curious and I tried 2005, 2006, and 2007. 2005 had almost 600 movies scheduled - ones that catched my eye (I just skimmed the list) were: Batman Begins, another batman, but this time directed by Christopher Nolan, who's responsible for Memento. Could be interesting. Herbie - do you know Herbie? We lived in Germany for many years, and there we got pretty acquainted with Herbie, the white Volkswagen Beetle who goes around helping people or something. Yeah. So it was surprising to hear about a remake or a sequel to a set of movies which came out >15 years ago. Mission Impossible 3 - no expectations yet... Mortal Kombat 3... no expectations either... In 2006 there were only a handful of movies, including Dead or Alive, based on the videogame; Far Cry, based on the videogame... and X-men 3. 2007 had 3 movies, including some Harry Potter sequel. 2008 had no movies, I think.
The other night I saw an episode of CSI, and in that episode they presented a "voyeurism" topic, and there was a website involved, http://www.ladyheather.com - and 'Lady Heather' was in the episode. So curiosity got the best of me and after the episode, I went to ladyheather.com - and the site actually exists, and Lady Heather was actually real! But... well, after a few seconds it meta-refreshed and sent me to the CSI official site... but that was pretty clever.
Anyway, on Saturday morning, we went to the new fitness center. Good workout - I actually enjoyed it. My tummy hurt for a while afterwards, and so did my right leg - but my right leg turned out fine pretty fast, but even right now if I stick my tummy out and try to bend backwards, my tummy hurts. AHHH... I guess that means it's working.
Saturday morning, when we got to the fitness center, but before we started working out, we talked to a guy about getting a personal trainer - cuz we will probably do that, cuz... I think we need one :) It'll be expensive, but... yeah yeah... anyway, the guy we talked to, Alex, the entire time, he was writing upside down. That is, he had a piece of paper, a pen, and he was sitting in his desk, opposite, and he looked at us, and he kept writing everything upside down so we can read it right-side up. I was trying my hardest not to laugh - it was really peculiar, and I was just waiting for him to make a mistake. He didn't make a mistake... maybe he's trained to do that.

Now, time for the party recap. A lot of the first portion of the party was, as I predicted, spent on Smash, the first one. Other things that happened included halo (on pc, 1 on 1), Wen and Jason playing the Beyond good and evil demo, umm... other stuff. By the way, thanks to Wen and Alan who changed something on my pc that makes the fonts look nice. I was wondering how to do that - ever since I switched to my new monitor, none of the resolutions were giving me pretty fonts. Now it looks nice...
Although, pretty early on in the party, Wen and Alan came across my blog and read my party predictions - so chances are, they were more likely to come true (or not come true, depending on how you look at it) - so there's a little bias one way or another on the party predictions.
At around 5:06, Wen, Alan and I started wondering if David was going to come - whether he slept in, come late, or not show up at all. Speak of the devil, David showed up around 5:15. You win this round Alan sir.
We didn't play any secret of mana, but one game I forgot about in my prediction was the all too usual Jia game - D2X. A lot of time was spent on D2x, but only by Jia.
Was correct on my prediction about David wanting to play cards, and that we're gonna have pizza. Duy got Settlers of Catan for his birthday. I didn't get to play it, but I was watching Ambrose, Alan, David and Wen play it, and it looks fun. Unfortunately, we didn't have any time to play it after that one time.
I was particularly wrong about the "watching" predictions - apparently, at a party, "watching" is not eventful enough for many people. "Watching" something is like a last resort. Isaque and I did watch 3 episodes of Panda-Z, which was cool. At around midnight, David and I watched a few people play poker on some videos I had, and we played a few games of no-money poker throughout the party, as well as other card games. I also forgot about Kirikou, which is something that Dave might want to watch, but it just totally slipped my mind.
I made a pie :) well, more like, I took it out of the freezer, and popped it into the oven and took it out. There wasn't enough for everyone, unfortunately... we also had whipped cream and maraschino cherries. Blah blah blah... eventually, everyone left except Mike, David, Ambrose, and Jia. Jia passed out on the little couch so he was pretty much sleeping after 2 am. At 4:00 am, it was decided that everyone head to bed, except I wasn't tired yet. So, Ambrose left to go home (since he had to move the next day), and everyone else headed to bed, except Jia, who already was on the little couch.
At 8:30, I woke up to the sound of people talking downstairs, I think. Anyway, I figure that I should probably wake up, get up, see if Jia is awake or whoever was, and if not, then I could just sleep downstairs. Anyway, David was up, Vinh was up, and Jia was still dead on the couch. We played a few more games, etc, and then Duy had to take Mike to the Clarkson GO station, and David decided to tag along. So it was just Jia and me, so we decided to watch some anime.
We watched Pugyuru eps 2 and 3, FMP Fumoffu Unaired 1b-2b (funny stuff, should watch all now), Sensei No Ojikan ep 2, and 2/3rds of Tweeny Witches 1, since we had to leave for lunch before we were done. Anyway, Mike's train didn't come until quarter past 12, so they decided to just hang out at the Go Station for a while. So we just watched more anime.
Pugyuru... is weird. Each episode is 3.5 minutes long, with a 30 seconds of ending credits and 20 seconds of intro credits. It's... weird. Since it's short, it's probably better... it's a combination of Digi Charat and Bobobo. Well, episode 2 was... episode 1 and 3 are not very digi charatly or boboboly. ep 3 is more GUU-ly. hehe. Sensei No Ojikan is not bad, not as good as Azu though. but still not bad :)
Went back to the old place to have lunch, and while we were eating, we watched 60% of Speed (or, "The bus that couldn't slow down") on Fox. That is, we missed the first hour (so like, 42 minutes + commercials) and watched the rest. I think David enjoyed it... I see it as suspense slash action, he says it's suspense / drama. I just see a splash of drama, but that doesn't make it a drama. Anyway... afterwards David leaves, and we're cleaning up the basement.
Afterwards, we went to Loblaws and bought a cake - went home for dinner, steak dinner, and then we had cake. We also saw Homer "Pie man" simpsons on TV, which was pretty good. Missed the first few minutes, but oh well. I still wanna see that "warcraft" commercial.
Anyway, so there was a battle: Cake vs Knife. My dad had to give excuses for the knife, such as "it was already kinda broken", but whatever - The cake won. While the knife was cutting the cake, the knife broke - like, the blade and the handle started getting dislocated. Once again, cake wins. Well, a memorable battle when I was a child was Ice Cream vs Spoon, and Icecream won that one too. Spoon didn't break, but it did bend a lot, as if it was inserted between two bricks, and then bent as far as possible. I wonder if I still have that spoon. It can be my lucky spoon. There IS a spoon.
So... haven't watched anything real with David for a while :P No gunslinger girl, no csi, no real intended movie session. Didn't watch initial D on the weekend, although we intended to - but Jason had to leave early, and my computer was being used pretty often throughout the party.
So... as for a general update... D20 game on Saturday. Let's say.. come at 1:30. David, someone has to make you a character, pretty quickly. Msn with Duy or something, although meeting in person would be 7x as effective (since David doesn't have the core book). Everyone else pretty much has a character - some don't have hit dice yet, but that should be relatively quick. As for backstories, I got most of them... I'll send messages to each person respectively if I need something.
I've got a general story done, and the general idea for mission 0 and mission 1 done. Just gotta draw a map for mission 1, and put bad guys on the premises and stuff. Some of you (by some of you, I mean Ray) have asked me about vehicles, and here's a spoiler - you'll probably get a vehicle or two after mission 1 - since I can't let you just walk around the city...
This campaign will be a mix between action, investigation, exploration, and mystery - well, I think I took that line from the corebook :P - as well, there are probably a few missions which let Duy and David do stuff other than cower. But the first mission will be mostly action based. It might not be the best mission for the start of the campaign, but it'll do.
Bring snacks.
