Kill Bill 2 >>>> Kill Bill 1
(Listening to selected tracks of Kill Bill 1 soundtrack as I'm writing this)
(I suggest if you haven't seen Kill Bill 1, and you have intentions of seeing it, do not read further. If you haven't seen Kill Bill 1, and you want to see Kill Bill 2, you should watch Kill Bill 1 first. Lastly, if you want to see Kill Bill 2... well, I'll try to make this spoiler free, but I can't guarantee anything)
Highlight of the day is the much anticipated, Kill Bill volume 2. Couple months ago, none of us really had the intention of seeing KB2, after seeing KB1. KB1 lacked in story, and instead had action and violence, and overexaggerated use of blood, oversquirting in a very silly way. Couldn't get close to the characters (character development wasn't a big highlight), among some other cons.
KB1 had good choreography, and also has some nice, memorable scenes and themes. The whole Chinese group theme, I thought, was really cool and effective. You all know what I think of Chiaki, gogo ;) Her dark, schoolgirl assassin figure... I just thought that was pretty cool. KB1 also had good music, one of its high points.
Over the past few weeks, we saw more trailers for Kill Bill 2. Wen was the first to show more interest in seeing KB2 - trailer hinted at more story, and interesting plot twists. Etcetera, etcetera. The anticipation grew, and we were intent on watching it. Jason then saw KB1, as did Alan, so they were better acquainted with the movie. Duy still had no intention of seeing it - he's that type.
What was I looking forward to? Well, in the trailer, and in the last few minutes of Kill Bill 1, you see Bill talking with Budd; and Budd says something along the lines of "She deserves her revenge... ... and we... we deserve to die." - and he sounds sincere. And Bill tells him that she will come, and that she is going to kill Budd. And Bill sounds pretty sincere too. So they sound scared, and they know she's coming.
Anyway. Kill Bill 2. Sitting down in the theatre, I wasn't sure what to expect. Will it be a repeat of Kill Bill 1? More senseless violence for another 2 hours? I wasn't sure.
Anyway... the movie was gorgeous. Much more story; NONE (or 99% free) of that silly blood squirting that was in the first movie. I'm so glad that silly blood squirting was gone. Granted, there was no more crazy 88 to kill - but KB2 was much less bloody, and much less violent. Not to say there wasn't any. There was still violence here and there. And also a couple disgusting parts. But more story, and more emotional parts. The characters have more emotions as well. I wholeheartedly loved this movie, and it's waay better than the first one.
Anyway, for now, back to Budd. Michael Madsen - I don't know him too well, but in the trailer, he seemed really sincere, and he's probably kinda scared. But now in the movie... he's a worthless bum. I can't feel for his character anymore... the lowlife he has become - and he's cocky, and just... yeah... a bum. Anyway, that's enough about Budd. Elle was pretty good.
Lots of flashbacks. That's where the story comes from - you get to know Uma's character, what happened in the past - as well as Bill's character. They did a lot of work on Bill's character, the 2nd most important character in the movie. I like Bill. He seemed like a good "last boss". Lots of emotion is invoked when Bill is onscreen.
Some REALLY, really funny parts in the movie too. Primarily in that flashback where Uma gets her training. And other various scenes in the movie.
Soundtrack-wise, I prefer the first film's soundtrack. More memorable themes... but when I can, I'll download the 2nd movie's tracks as well.
So, Jason, Alan, Wen, and I saw the movie today. So far, everyone I've talked to that have seen it, really liked the movie. So now here comes the hard part: convincing Duy and David that the movie is worth seeing. While it's not my job to try to convince them, I'm always up for a challenge.
I'm not forcing anyone to watch it, but I like listing reasons. SO:
Hmm... after David sees the movie and after Duy sees the movie, David will have a higher appreciation for it. Partially, because Duy doesn't like movies. Also, the lasting impression of the first movie will stick to him.
David, on the other hand... well, it will be hard to convince him to see it at first. But after seeing it, he'll appreciate it a bit more. It's still not his type of movie, so... well... now that I think of it, I don't think we'll be able to get him to see it. Although he'll have an open mind, since everyone will be saying how this one is waay better than the first, in terms of "less-violence", "more story", "more character", and "more emotion". Much more Uma character development, emotion (final meeting between Bill and Uma), and some funny moments are a lot of highpoints of this movie. David didn't get any story development and absolutely no Uma development from the first film, and probably dislikes Uma and Quentin for such a movie.
So... yeah. Anyway, we can't get David to pay for it anyhow. But it's a beautiful movie with a very beautiful ending. Just gotta get over a few obstacles along the way.
Funny how I say Bill and Uma, rather than Dave and Uma, or Bill and *beep*. :)
As for other movies, Punisher is out. I do not know anything about the Punisher (except I bought one of his comics at a garage sale once - punisher vs Venom or something). Wen know something about the punisher, so he says he might want to see it - however, Jason and I don't care much for it. Alan will go to anything :P
Another movie which caught my eye the other day was "Girl next door". Not my type of movie, per sé. But I saw a trailer and a few clips from it from the cineplex site. It's a romantic comedy about a boy, whose next door neighbour is this really hot chick (Elisha Cuthbert, "24" - who I don't know much about, except that she's supposedly really talented and good looking ;) ). Anyway, turns out this hot chick is a pornstar as well, so ... stuff happens. Some stupid parts, some probably romantic parts - stuff David would like, haha. Anyway, haven't seen a flick like this for a while, and I should get to know Elisha Cuthbert better. Maybe she's cool. I should check some reviews I suppose, but I'm not sure when I'll see it, IF I see it.
Van Helsing looks alright. Too many of its genre are popping up everywhere, so it'll be hard to tell. Gotta wait for the reviews. I, Robot looks alright... I've been a fan of Agent Smith's stuff... Spiderman 2 will most likely be good. We should watch that as a group when it comes out. Alan wants to see "Day after Tomorrow" - and although I don't really care for the story (if there is one), perhaps I'll go see it. Absolutely no intention of seeing the Garfield movie, although Garfield was pretty cool when we were kids. What happened Garfield? You used to be cool...
Anyway, tonight Alan and I was supposed to go to a poker game, but everyone cancelled last minute so we didn't have enough people to play. What a shame. So instead we just stayed home with Jason and Wen and watched stuff, Played Halo, watched Halo, and then... that's about it.
Yeah. that's it. KILL BILL 2! good stuffs, I tell ya. Clark Kent is a coward.
