Nausicaa
Alright, so today in the history of animation class, we were supposed to see Nightmare Before Christmas. But the Japanese anime portion of the class seemed pretty successful, so we continued it, with 3 choices of titles: Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Nausicaa. I've seen Spirited Away, and I half kinda wanted to see Kiki, cuz I heard good things about it. But I really wanted to see Nausicaa, cuz it seems like a classic - plus, he said it was really hard to obtain.
About 90% of the class voted Nausicaa, so even if I did vote for something else, we would've still seen Nausicaa. The dvd was korean or something, and so my teacher couldn't navigate to the Japanese language / English subtitles options properly, and he left the room after it started playing, and unfortunately, it turned out to have English subtitles, but I'm 99% sure it wasn't Japanese. It was more along the lines of Korean or Taiwanese. So that was a bit off.
Anyway... about 15 seconds into the movie, I realize to myself... "I've seen this before." And it's true, I did see the entire movie before at a CTRL-A showing (anime club showing). I remember seeing a movie about "Wind" (well, 2 movies about "wind"), and this one was Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind. Anyway, I decided to watch the whole thing again, cuz I haven't seen it for maybe 3 years, and I remember I liked it, for the most part. And I remember trying to remember the name of the film so I can look for it... lucky me, now I know what it's called.
Like many Miyazaki works, there are some really weird part which I find less enjoyable, and this one was no exception - but overall it was still a solid, beautiful adventure. So anyway, I stayed and watched the whole thing and it was good.
In case you're wondering, the other "wind" movie I saw was "The boy who saw the wind"... I think. It was a tragic, sad, happy movie... it was an emotional movie, dealing with war and things. I really liked that movie as well.
Anyway, it's 6:02 now, and Wen is coming over to eat with us, I think; Mel's or Molly's, not sure yet... oh, there he is, I think. Let's make sure...
yes it is. Apparently something's nicer than this one. that's what he said. Anyway... byee!
