Coming back for more

Alright, it's 10:30 AM now. Alan and Ambrose are at Church, Duy is asleep, and I should be asleep, but I'm not. Woke up at 9:41, but went to bed at ~4:10. So they won't be back for a while, but I should go make some breakfast and then try to write a blog entry. brb.

Well, I'll number these sections, so replying to them will be easier ^_^ - there are 7 sections to reply to ^_^

1 - pre-blog

10:33, deciding to have an early lunch instead, I pop in a microwave broccoli alfredo, and then I'll pop in a chicken cordon bleu (ham and cheese) as well - should be a good meal. While I'm waiting, I'll prepare an excel spreadsheet...

10:45, my meal is ready. I went into Alan's room to look for the camera so I can take a picture of my splendid $1.99 meal, but alas, I couldn't find the camera. Anyway, I still have to do a bit more in excel and I gotta eat my yummy.

10:47. Duy's awake. I'm eating, yum.

11:03, done excel thing, almost done lunch. gonna get some iced tea.

11:08: So I went downstairs to make my iced tea concoction. Who keeps drinking all the iced tea! grrr... but there was still enough to make my mixture. So Duy's awake, and then I tell him to update his blog, he shakes his head, and then 1 second later I hear the familiar music of the playonline viewer. Anyway, I'm done my brunch now, it's 11:09, and I can begin my actual blog update. And now you know what Bao does on a Sunday morning ^_^

2 - alan

But before I start, since Alan hasn't updated lately either, I'll update for him:

I went to thingieing yesterday, but Bao will probably post about it first so just read it there. Goi Cuon night was also very good, but our team did pretty bad in the games. Afterwards, we went back to our house and we played Smash. I'm not so good at old smash, but I'm getting better. I hope that I have installed Duy's video card by now.

I'm up to episode 13 of Full Metal Alchemist now. It's a good series. The story's developing quite nicely as each episode comes along. Bao says I should watch episode 15, so I'll do that today.

Church was good.

Accountability check: Great, but I haven't had to do that much, and I haven't posted that much lately.

Anyway, moving on to my part of the blog.

*takes a deep breath* I wonder how many people will reply to JUST the alan blog portion of this entry... sigh* hmm...?

now it's 11:20.

3 - fiascos

So yesterday morning/brunchtime, we got up around 10 or 11, but anyway, we decided to go to Johnny Fiascos for breakfast/brunch. Supposedly they too have breakfast, comparable to Mel's in price and quantity. So we decided to go there. It being our first time there (except Ambrose), we decide to have something other than breakfast, while Ambrose partakes in their good deal breakfast. Instead, we decided to start sampling other foods, to see if Fiascos was a comparable Mel's alternative.

11:29 - decided to listen to some music, so I'm listening to the start of Urda #3 now. Anyway, our waitress at Fiasco's was new (it was her first week), and her pens were pretty dead so she had troubles taking down our orders. She was pretty cute in the way she kept coming back for more. That's what we (Brose, Duy, Alan, and I) termed it - she "kept coming back for more." With that much terming, how could that not be my blog entry title? hehe. Anyway, so this is how it all went down.

She comes up to us, no menu in hand, and asks if we just want breakfast, but Duy interjects and asks for the Menu. She comes back with a menu, and we all decide to drink water.

Ambrose orders the breakfast, Duy gets Chicken Cordon Bleu pasta, Alan gets Parm and Pasta combo, and I get Chicken Primavera pasta.

She comes back to make sure she got the right order.

She comes back to tell us that we can have sides with our dishes - so I ask for caesar salad, Duy same, and Alan wedges.

She comes back to tell us that Alan's Parm and Pasta combo does not come with a side, and then she wanted to make sure that we have the right side orders, so we re-confirm that we both wanted caesars. And that's the last we see of her, for now. At this point, I wish I had gotten wedges so we have more variety.

Food took a while (she did tell us this, I guess it was a busy saturday), so otherwise it shouldn't be too bad. Oh yeah, our meals were $6.79 each, Alan's was... $6.99, Ambrose's was $2.99 - our meals came with free coffee/teee/softdrinkees but we didn't really care so we just stuck with our waters.

Anyway, a guy came later and gave us our food - everyone correct, except instead of 2 caesars we have 1 caesar and 1 wedges. She must've been psychic. yes yes. Anyway, so the meal was pretty good. It was $6.79 for the lunch portion, I suppose dinner portion's bigger and more expensive, but it's a good deal here, since it comes with a side and drinks. Lunch selection is pretty small though (a bit bigger than kickoff) - I think Lunch menu had <25 items. Anyway, I would definately go to Fiasco's again. Atmosphere is good, prices are fair.

So that ends the Fiascos journal entry. There ya go Alan, I posted for you ^_^. Oh wait, Alan would now say I like tomato sauce so I like Mel's Parm better. This one had a creamy Alfredo or butter sauce, so Alan didn't like it as much.

Then Duy and Alan and Ambrose went to a candy store because Duy has a candy project to do (eat as much candy as you can as fast as possible... or something like that), so I went to visit the store a bit and saw a bunch of chocolates I didn't know about. I should go there one day and just spend $16 on 10 variety chocolate bars (... or something. Maybe I should reduce the amount of times I say "or something" or "... I think". so let's try that ^_^).

4.1 - pre goi cuon

Anyway, I told VSA that I would help them cook goi cuon food, so I went over to their place. They changed the door thingie so instead of calling their apt number, it's a different number depending on the name registered to the apt, so I had to wait a few minutes until some random person walked in and opened the door. So anyway I get in... or something :P just kidding. So I get in, and they're cooking and stuff.

Phong gives me my first task - peel the shrimp. Man, I suck at it. Eventually I got better, but not thaat much better. So I peeled about 2/9 of the shrimp, cuz Lam was helping me at the time, and on average in the time it takes me to peel 2 shrimp, he peels 7. After that, I clean some lettuce and bean sprouts. And yeah, during this time I saw the "fear factor" goods and I smelled it and I saw Jeff try it, so during the game later I decided to be the "camera-man", all for good reason too. And then I peeled some peanut stuffs.

So that was from about 2pm until 5pm. Now it's time to go to goi cuon.

11:51 - I go back up and section up the blog entry so it's easier to respond to.

4.2 - goi cuon

So Goi cuon *started* at 7, but we didn't really start eating or anything until 7:45, since not many people showed up. I'm disappointed that Andy didn't show up, since I was sure he was going to come. Anyway, food-wise, Goi Cuon was good. I was pretty full after the first 4, but I pushed myself (but didn't ask for too much) and ate another 2. Of course, the last one was no veggies and all shrimp, and 2nd last one was all pork, but still good, still good.

Then came the games. Since I already knew what they were, for the most part, I decided to try to get out of it, so I opted to be camera-man. Phong, Jeff, and I all knew about the mixture, so Jeff and I weren't playing (as Jeff was the host, and I was THE camera man), but Phong stuck in although that was kinda suicidal.

Good efforts go to Wen and Jason. Your snug-tight shrimp roll sucked though. Deau Leo's fantastic presentation shrimp roll was pretty awesome. Anyway, so once again it was a pretty successful goi cuon night, paid 6 bucks, ate 6 shrimp rolls and cream soda and dessert, so that was great.

5 - poker

It's 12:02 now. During the cooking of the goi cuon, Lam asked me if I wanted to play poker tonight, so I decided to join. Haven't played poker since the tournament, and I love it. Man, I gotta try to incorporate it into our sessions or something... "wanna play smash? nah... how'bout poker? OKay!" (I just noticed I said "or something"... agh!!") For that, I need to buy the chips. Dealing with pennies is pretty crappy, dealing with quarters is cumbersome (and your hands start to smell like money), but dealing with chips is cool. Feels real, good to touch, makes that wonderful noise when they hit each other when you throw them on the table, easy to stack, aesthetically pleasing... damn. Man, I gotta buy some of those. Maybe Brose wants to take me to fairview mall, I hear you can get them there.

So about 10:40, we start playing poker, and we keep going until about 3:42. 5 hours of poker goodness, I was in every game. At most there were 8 players in the game, who were:
Myself; Lam; Vu; Toan; Annie; Nevin; Jason; and not my bro, but another guy named Duy Nguyen, but this time the D in Duy was like a Canadian D, so instead of zwee, it's like dwee, but a bit more emphasis on the u, so it's... Duy. yeah.

Texas Hold'em, any buy-in, small blind $0.25, big blind $0.50. Limits .50-.50-1-1. I think later when Jason and Annie came, shortly after limits were raised to 1-1-2-2, and then around 2:45, No-limit began. I bought in for $20, several others for $20, Lam for like $16, etc. Before I continue, let's talk about Vu.

Vu and Duy go to the real casino pretty often now. And damn. Friday, Vu and Duy won $3000.

Each.

Damn. what a rush. Betting $800 on a single blackjack hit. I couldn't do that man. But damn! Sounds so good...

brb, time to take a 5 minute break.

Okay, that was less than 5 minutes, but okay. Oh yeah, it's Spring now. Which doesn't really mean much, since it might snow in May. But it tends to get pretty warm here in Waterloo during exams, if I remember correctly a few years ago. Anyway, continuing on. Back to Poker.

That's me. It says there are 70 games, but of course I didn't keep count and not everything here is entirely correct... I'm sure I won a few more big games but I just couldn't find where to put it on the graph. So it's just a representative. Around game 35, no-limit started. I bought in for $20, and at the end of the 5 hours I was down $10, but it was worth it. If you think of the whole thing as a loss of $10, you can think that way... or you could see that I spent some variable $10 on 5 hours of fun. So that was great. Now onto the highlights.

So I won a few games, some with high cards, some with a really funny bluff. It's like, everyone called in, nobody raised on the flop, nor the turn, and then the river came up. There was like, nothing really great on the table, so I raised 1 dollar. and then EVERYONE folded. hahaha. I was holding a 2 and a 5, so it was almost a straight, but really I had crap. So that was an easy 3 dollars or something.

My favourite raise occurs when on the flop, there are 2 10's showing. So you raise like nobody's business, because you probably have a 10. but you don't. Damn, I shouldn't've said that, but that's okay. There were several other good parts in the game when I won pretty big on 1 pair and a kicker - that means, you have a pair, and you have a high card. Once there was a king on the table, and at the end Lam and I both had kings. Unfortunately for him, he was also holding a 9, and I was holding an ace. So I won that round.

Man, so much fun. Near the end of the game, Duy wanted to commit suicide, so he went all in with $3.00. He was suiciding, so he didn't even look at his cards. So I called him, and then we flipped the cards quickly, and damn, he won! Then right afterwards, he did it again, went all in, without looking at his cards, $6.50 or so. I again called, and he was holding 2 spades, I was holding 2 diamonds. On the flop, 2 spades showed up! ARGH! also, an ace showed up, so I was holding a pair. Unfortunately, on the turn a 3rd spade showed up and once again he won the 6.50. I fed him.

And last but not least, you're probably wondering about that $15 dollar loss on one hand. Remember poker tournament? At least I wasn't against Annie this time, but I was against Jason Ahn, the runner-up of the tournament. And remember how I died in the poker tournament?

2 pair. But this time, I saw the possibility of the straight. But I still raised, and then HE went all in. I already put in like 5 dollars, so I had to see his 12, and unfortunately, he had the 9 and the queen, while I had the 5 and the jack, so he completed a straight and I was like AWAWAWHAWWWW :(

Alan and Ambrose and Jason are here now, but first I gotta post 1 more section. Well, 2.

6 - perfect dark

This morning I check out the speed runs on the web again, and I see a speed run for perfect dark, so I decided to download some of the clips. Previously, I absolutely disliked perfect dark, cuz everytime I saw someone playing it, they were always in this base facility or alien space base. So the entire game's pretty sci-fi, right? And they were just doing stupid stuff, or they were fighting and it looked really really chunky. So I didn't see why it was so good, compared to Goldeneye.

So I watch a few videos. Wow! Well, now thaat wow, but the guy's not in a base! He's actually running around outside. And there are more missions and stuff, and it wasn't so... damn boring chunky looking. He was walking outside! With the sun! I haven't seen the sun in that game ever. So It looks like the game is comparable...
7 - fanservice

Anyway, to end this journal entry, I took a few screencaps of Lineage 2. I only played for a few (30) minutes, so here are a few generic pictures.

And not but not least, the fanservice ^_^

... Anyway, now I'm curious as to what is happening downstairs, so I'm done now. 12:34. Longest journal entry in March. And there wasn't even a dream. Let's see how long the comments get.
