hmm... might as well update a bit.
I figure since I'm not doing anything right now, I should just update now, just a part of the weekend or whatever I was gonna update. Otherwise, I'll probably won't update so much stuff at once. So... in no particular order... I'll start with the VSA Anime Nite.
So... well, first a little background. I like anime ^_^. I am also part of UWVSA, the Vietnamese Student Association of the University of Waterloo. Long story short, I planned an event for VSA, where we would get together and watch anime and play videogames on the big screen. And on Friday, the event happened.
Pre-event went pretty smoothly, for the most part. We set up quick enough, the room was suitable (except part of it was always lighted, so it wasn't as dark as we hoped it would be). Food preparations went well, and overall... yeah. went well.
On to the actual event. Turnout was great. I think 23 people were there, which is pretty good. Was more than I expected. The schedule went something like this:
7:05 - Jubei Chan 1
7:30 - Full Metal Alchemist 1
7:55 - Full Metal Alchemist 2. I gave them a choice between FMA2 and Dokkoida, but I didn't sell Dokkoida very well so the general choice was FMA2.
8:20 - a bit of break time. So I think we resumed around 8:25.
8:25 - Bottle Fairy 1. I was going to show BF1-3, but the general reaction to Bottle Fairy 1 was pretty unpleasant. So, instead of showing eps 2-3 (each ep is about 10 minutes long), I showed them Dokkoida, which had a good audience... rating... like... they laughed when they saw it, so overall it was great.
Then came the game tournament. From 9:00-9:20, we had some practice runs, just for fun, with mostly Capcom vs SNK 2. I like that game ^_^
Then came the actual tournament, which took 30 minutes longer than planned. Overall, the tournament went really well. It wasn't a hardcore tournament like they have in Japan/Korea or other gaming conventions... it was a more fun kinda tournament, with newbies and casual players alike. With a variety of games like Mario Kart, Capcom vs SNK 2, Soul Calibur 2, and Mario Party, everyone seemed satisfied... well, those who didn't pass round 1 didn't play too much else, but oh well. There were prizes at the end, and... yeah. congrats Wen, for winning the Lain wallscroll :) And... well, Chris isn't going to read this, but yeah.. congrats to him too :) Enjoy Powerstone and Blue Gender! And Steve, enjoy your Hyperdoll! Bwahahaha... good thing these people are already fans of anime. If they were newbies, Hyperdoll might make them hate anime... haha. It's not thaaat bad... it's just not good.
Anyway, after the tournament, we watched Gunslinger Girls 1. I think it would win the people's choice awards. And then... I tried to show the Kare Kano dvd, but WinDVD and media player wouldn't accept the soft subtitles or something, so it was all weird so we didn't watch it. We watched a few seconds of it dubbed, and then everyone (by Everyone, I think I mean just Amy) screamed and... well, that's a bad sign so we stopped watching that.
Last time we did this anime thing, I booked the room from sometime until sometime, but we can stay longer than the room was booked cuz nobody really cares. So we continued and played some more games, and eventually went home and.. yeah. So overall it was an amazing event, and I'll gladly host another one later. I want to host a hardcore videogame tournament, hopefully that might work out.
:)
Next... ICE OF DOOM! ... I dunno why I'm posting about this, but our stairs in front of our house are ICY! And I slipped. And stuff. Yeah. It's really slippery. But we put salt on it, and now it's not so slippery anymore, but the shoveling still doesn't work so well.
So that's it for now.
And to recap, I still need to talk about:
UW Dream - get out of my sight
UW Dream - Cove - bosswinder
Other UW Dream... maybe.
The weekend in general (No Frills, David, umm... etc.)
Oh yeah. One day, Alan and I are gonna watch one of my dvds, so just before I put the movie in, I'll tell him I'll be right back, with my dvd in hand.
And then I'll walk to SLC and chill there for a few hours.
