the anime journal entry
I don't know why I did this. I should probably upload this somewhere to another page and keep it updated. Dunno. I thought it might help me plan for an anime-a-thon, and it also keeps us up-to-date which each other and... something like that. And if, for example, anyone wants to know if Scrapped Princess is good or not, you know who to ask.
E-mail me or comment me to add more anime to this list, or to change or update your numbers. Yeah, I'll probably upload this to a separate page. It's just for fun, I guess. And I'll add more names if they want to be added.
Anyway... not sure if I will have an anime-a-thon soon. I'll prolly bring home my hard drive and we can watch anime if we want to... we'll see. David, you coming up? Jia really wants to come up, but I dunno if I should ask Ambrose to drive him if it's just Jia, ya know?
Anyway... continuing the anime thing... anyone want to help me with an assignment? It's a fun assignment, but input would be much super appreciated. So after reading week, the thursday, I have a presentation to do for my history of animation course - the topic I chose was "characteristics of Anime" - teacher says it's too broad, so if I could make it more specific that'd be great, or maybe I want to do something like "compare it to Western animation" or something. The content with which I do this presentation, I can get from anywhere; doesn't have to be from the course textbook or anything. Some previous guy said he whipped up a presentation in 2 hours - internet, search, read stuff, print out handouts, get dvd, etc.
So the presentation should be ~10+ minutes long, with at most a 3 minute video portion. So I can talk about anime, and then show a clip, like if I talked about 'big eyes', then I show a clip with big eyes, and maybe since I can video edit my own stuff and make my own dvds, I can compare an anime face with Homer Simpson's face or something. Anyway, it sounds like a highschool project, so I want to make it a bit more complex than "anime means characters have big eyes and blue hair." Although some of the other presentations weren't that impressive either.
hmm... this topic sounds like fun. Or maybe I should've chosen a specific anime, like, FLCL, and presented about that. Other people presented some not very famous films, like Tim Burton's "Vincent" and... some other stuff. Another dude presented about Mel Blanc, the voice of the Looney Tunes people stuff. Oh well. I chose a topic, now I want to do well in it. Wanna help? It'll be fun! :)
So basically... I can probably find some research on my own, on the web, websites about how anime is characterized - but then if you could help me pick out good examples of 'characteristics of anime' (possibly big eyes, facial expressions compared to western anime, etc), that'd be cool. I do not want my presentation to be about how "Japanese Anime is better than Western Animation" - just characteristics of anime. I don't want to take sides, although deep inside we all know what's better ;)
